Seiko Presage Auto JDM SRPD99J1 - S/S + Sapphire $399 Delivered @ Starbuy

300

At first I thought it was just another Presage deal, but then I noticed this one features a full Sapphire crystal instead of the usual Hardlex. Not bad for the price considering you also get full Made in Japan and the dependable 4R35 movement. This is a replacement for the SARB series and retains the same dimensions of 38.8mm diameter and 11.2mm thickness. The Zen indexes look pretty sharp, too, when you see them up close against the black dial.

Full specs:

  • Case Diameter: 38.3mm
  • Case Thickness: 11.2mm
  • Case Material: Stainless Steel
  • Glass Type: Curved sapphire crystal
  • Strap: Stainless Steel Bracelet
  • Movement: 4R35 - Automatic Hand Winding/Date Display
  • Exhibition Case Back
  • Pull-Out Crown
  • WR: 30m / 3ATM
  • 3 Year Warranty

        Maybe you'd prefer this watch.

in my heart i knew it was going to be that watch haha

        • +2

          lol that's more like it.

When the watch you link changes we'll all know you're going through a midlife crisis.

          • +2

@matictac: its how we'll know WN has been killed and replaced by shape shifting Robot ala Terminator 2.

      • thats what makes it nice though

        high contrast, simple date.
dont always need 5 million complications and insane lume (they are fun though)

Agree, don't need bits and pieces to be good - I just find this one too plain even after acknowledging its design cues.

        • +1

          …and insane lume

How else will you light the keyhole when coming home late at night? Oh wait, that's why people carry mobile phones…

I'd rather this one, you may have seen it:
      https://www.sakurawatches.com/seiko-selection-solar-limited-…

  • Interesting WR for a bracelet watch.

    • 50m minimum ideally, 100m better.
Not uncommon for cheap/dress watches though..

@gakko it's classy and simple timeless styling

    • Probably because it's designed as a dress watch and not a tool watch; with only a pull-out crown the seal won't be anywhere near as watertight as a screw-down. Good enough to (carefully) wash your hands while wearing but I wouldn't get it any more wet than that.

  • Bought this one on Green recently.. Very happy

    Compare to a smart watch,
What is the selling point for this one?

    • +2

it'll last 10x longer if you look after it and retain some of its value

Who needs a watch when you've got a phone.

      Same old comments. Google it.

I've managed to avoid smart watches, they have a limited life span like phones and I don't fancy charging them every day as well. Wear a Fitbit but that's always on and lasts 7 days, easy enough to forget about it.

You could argue either way, why need anything this and that. It's a traditional legacy wearing and collecting watches but is of course optional. The new generation probably don't get it.

      • Looks better

      • No need to remember to charge it

      • My life does not revolve around notifications. I will read those emails/messages when I have time for them, not the other way around.

      • Yeah it's bad enough with phones and touching/swiping/scrolling on those 1M times a year or whatever the number is.

  • That’s super nice

i dont think people really understand the significance of these kinds of Seiko watches

its been years and years where Seiko onlyfans want a simple black or white dial stainless watch like the above but it must be automatic and have sapphire and it should be 38-40mm… and that's it… snowflake dial even better

seiko did make a slew of watches like this but they either sold out quick or were pretty expensive

eg. the infamous sarb33 sary55 etc.

google them and you'll get the boring picture - i get it, i dont mind it but i have plenty of boring watches already

these are the kind so watches my grandfather liked and he never made it to this current century

i like watches but the above to me looks like a Toyota Camry car club

but i mean $400 for a seiko like this is cheap… the WR doesnt matter, no one is swimming with this

    • Yeah it's very clean and legible. Pretty temping given how hard and expensive it is to get anything like the old sarb (or sary) models.

Wouldn't mind if it had dorphine hands (had an old Seiko 5 snkl23 that had a nice dial. I just know it may not get much wear as I don't wear that much formal wear these days.

30m isn't ideal but as you say you won't be swimming in dress watches. It's just once you add the ss band it could become a GADA watch (go anywhere do anything) which typically have good lume and >100m WR, maybe why I like divers so much. A lot of competition at this price point but I'll agree it's a very nice dress watch.

    • Ps the newer presages have 50m WR so not too much to expect.
