    About time!!!!!

  • +4

I'm actually playing these through on my miyoo mini plus right now, amazing games

    • Is the Miyoo mini any good? Been looking for a portable console, but worried about battery life and frame drops.

      • +2

I love the buttons and dpad on the miyoo mini plus but the battery only lasts about three hours for me despite what others say. The expensive odin 2 has the best battery Ive tried.

        • Bruh that's straight up Steam Deck.

      • its actually amazing, Very high quality build, excellent screen, buttons feal perfect, software is on point.

I genuinely feel like mine will be used for years to come and won't be put aside quickly.

I highly recommend the miyoo mini plus or any of the other similar performing form factor handheld consoles.

        • How many hours are you getting per charge? Other reply was saying 3hours which isn't too long.

          • @Deco: I was getting less than 3 hours on mine before I sold it, but a friend's one lasts longer. Seems to be inconsistent?

          • @Deco: I'm not sure, I don't really take notice of it.

I played it flying Sydney to Brisbane, a bit whilst I was there, then the flight back, didn't charge it the whole time.

However, keep in mind the battery life will vary on what your doing on it. Playing something low performance elike a Gameboy game will generally use less power than playing something higher performing like a ps1 game

I think you need to consider how long you will play it in a single session, I don't think I've ever had an instance where I started playing at battery 100% then stopped at 0%, but life is busy hense why I can't sink 3+ hours into a single session

      • It's my most played retro handheld. 100% recommended.

      • It's pretty awesome. It's cheap and very comfortable. Frame drop will only happen in certain ps1 games, and when you do play ps1 and beyond, it's likely to run out of battery quickly.

There are still no alternative with like for like build quality and feature parity at the same price. So if you need a longer battery life, I'll say wait for a bit, the r36S should encourage ambernic and miyoo to update their entry line.

  • Alright, I think its time to dust off the ol' Switch

  • +4

I loved these games as a kid. For Golden Sun 1 i spent countless hours grinding for all the 1% drops to get myself every best in slot item. Sadly I sold them both with my GBA years ago.

  • I still have my original copy of Golden Sun on the GBA. Never got the sequel though, looking forward to giving them a good shot again… if I can find the time.

    • +1

I'd recommend it! Those 2 games are up there in the all time greats for me. The 3rd entry in the series was unfortunately a big disappointment.

    • +1

Kept both my GBA games. This was my childhood. The second one is just as good as the first. Probably better?

Still won’t pay for a dumb subscription to play they again though. Maybe one day Nintendo will stop being stupid and sell them outright like they did on the Wii, Wii U and 3DS.

  • +1

Great games, such a long and detailed story

  • +2

Oh my god this game was so good! Definitely recommend the game!

  • +1

I still remember getting given golden sun on gba from a family friend.
Pretty sure I still have the game and map.

  • +1

I remember receiving the Golden Sun as a kid but I was too dumb to play/understand the game so ended up returning the game and getting Spyro: Season of Ice.

I still regret that decision to this day…

    • Good that nintendo accommodated that regret!
I was hoping for a ping when this popped up, but you forgot about me Richard :P, lucky i was here when you posted it :D

      • +1

Was going to reply to your previous comment, but you commented instantly when I posted the deal.

        • Right place at the right time. But i'm glad you remembered that comment!!!!

  • Nostalgia play for sure

  • This is a game/s worth a modern remake

    Very underated

    • +1

Not sure about under rated, it was a best seller and on every list of great GBA games.

  • +1

I remember not enjoying the combat in these games. Happy to try them again but compared to say a FF, the combat just felt flimsy and moves felt weak.

    • -1

To each their own. I think FF stinks (only played 7, 13). I haven't tried these though

    • I much preferred GS to FF anything. Less FMV-o-rama, pretty accessible.

    • +1

Actually what I loved about GS is the battle and dijin system. Endless customisable and each summon affects your next moves and stats. Best system yet. Ff7 materia was also good too but no where near as good

  • +4

I hate the subs for this stuff. Would prefer to buy it. Wonder if there's a work around for owners of the original switch

    • +2

Sure, if you have an OG batch Switch it's child's play to install emulators with every retro game.

Makes the trickle of offerings from Switch Online look sad.

      • Ah yeah I didn't think of running the GBA version. I assumed there would be QoL improvements to the switch version

The one that really bites me is Mario kart 64. I guess I could emulate that too though?

        • Could get a miyoo mini and get the whole GBA library.
Wouldn't be able to run N64 games tho.

        • Yes with a hacked switch you can use a traditional emulator or just straight up pirate the Switch Online app ( not sure this has any changes.)

  • +1

Sucks that it's subs. I'd buy this for a small amount.

  • Whats the cheapest way people have found to get the nintendo online subscription? it is $30/yr or is there a cheaper way?

    • +6

Join a family plan for ~$13.75/year using classifieds

    • You need the +expansion pack sub for this, so it's $60/yr base (or the other advice from Richard).

  • -4

It's free on miyu mini plus lol

    • Isn't this game kinda hard to emulate on weak hardware?

      • It's a GBA game. Will run fine. Miyoo struggles with N64 and above.

    • Dont know why I am neegged game comes with the SD card with the game, go figure, games list

  • +1

TIL there was a third Golden Sun on DS

    • +1

You haven't missed anything there, it was truly terrible.

      • Left it on a cliffhanger too to boot. What a shitty end to the series.

  • +1

At last, the Valeshpping vs Mudshipping wars can recommence!

  • Harder daddy!!! I forgot how much that Sea of Karagol theme slaps

  • +1

What a great game, I still remember the music and most of the plot from 20 years ago..
Hopefully, I still have my 12 screen long savecode so I don't have to grind as much on the first game.

    • Lol lol oh yeah that thing. Was hella cool to port over part 1 stats and items but man that he a code to put in was hectic. I always made a few mistakes too

  • Such beautiful games.
Beautiful art and music. Amazing story and fun things to do!

  • +2

The Ragnarok spell where the red sword swooshed across the screen was the ducks nuts. Game was just beautiful back in its day and still looks good today.

Damn fine game and probably the most fun you could have on the GBA. Back before smart phones, airlines would be way more hardcore about enforcing the "no devices during takeoff" rule. The 5 people on the flight with GBAs would be waiting impatiently for the light to turn off, everyone else would just be reading the crappy in flight magazine. GBA players used to be gods amongst men.

  • One of my favourite series as a kid, good story, good gameplay.

  • +3

Agree with some ppl here, it's absolute bull and just plain greedy that Nintendo expect people to pay $60 just to only have access to games like this for a year. GS is the only games I care about. I'd rather just pay a smaller portion to keep them. They're not even remastered. Might as well just play the originals on GBA or emulator, prob with better filters/upscaling too :/

  • Yeah I get it a stupid subscription is annoying but this could be the final hurrah. Id much rather people get NSO play them and finish them and maybe Nintendo will greenlit a 4th game that actually finishes the story that Dark Dawn mentions. (Or even just a book.)
As I'm sure they will see analytics X many people played them for a total of Y hours. Where as playing it on your phone etc doesn't really help with that kind of thing.

I am seriously pondering getting a expansion family pack "thingie" then doing the typical pay X amount but if people finish take a photo/video of both The Broken Seal and The Lost Age endings. Or remote battle me with a high enough level/stat party to complete them. I'll refund it making it free for whatever else they want to do with anytime left. That's pretty much how much I care about it. I want to see if there is anything game ruining before hand so it wont be a day 1 thing.

Too anyone. I don't want any expressions of interest. I'll post about it in the classifies if I decide to do it. I have also turned off PMs for the foreseeable future. :)

  • Really really loved the game. Wish they got rid of the puzzles or like maybe hacked version or for replayers had an option to toggle it off. It's the long thing that turned me off, constantly running around to solve the map puzzle to get to the boss

  • I love this game. Played it heaps on emulator back then.

  • Better than Tears of the Kingdom
