Guess it's an okay price, but I wouldn't read too much into that inflated RRP. The same set of speakers is sold by HN for just $100 more, it's not even listed as on sale, and in stock at every HN near me.

  • This or Samsung 920c?

Check for standby power draw! I have an older model and just alone the subwoofer draws 35W on standby even when the receiver is turned off, ie, around $60 per year at 20c/kW. An Embertec smartswitch fixed it.

    • Where did you buy your Embertec smartswitch?

Found this, but it is different?

Sorry, I got mine many years ago when they did the "free" (=you pay through your taxes) handouts/installs.

I'm using the Embertec SmartSwitch PC. The TV is the main device that remains turned on. When it goes on low-power/standby, then the receiver and woofie are turned off at the power point. Works great most of the time, though in rare circumstances, a prolonged black TV screen lowers power consumption on the TV and turns off the sound system. The TV uses less than 0.7W on standby so is OK.

The "Embertec SmartSwitch TV" did switch off everything and then the TV start up is slow etc because it had it's power cut, so the ES PC is the right one for my needs.

The SmartSwitch is quite a bulky thing and tends to almost pull itself off the wall socket, so keep that in mind. May also be a problem with covering up the second power point on a 2-gang power point.

On a side note, buying that cheap Aldi power meter (~$15) sounded geeky at the time but saved me its cost many times over through the years.

        • Thanks, I may get one from soundlab.
          Cheers!

    • My old Krix subwoofer used to be like that too. I think Class A amplifiers are well known for being inefficient in terms of power consumption. I ended up having to send it in for a repair, and they covered it for free under warranty despite it being 2 years expired. The new one had a class D amp built-in instead and the power consumption difference was huge.
