Nikon Z8 discounts are back, lowest price ever this time for Australian stock. Cheaper than the grey importers, even cheaper than Amazon's used stock.

Most shops are offering a $300 gift card, Amazon is discounting $300. N.B. the T&Cs state offer ends February 5 2023, which I think is a typo, the code NIKON300 worked for me.

To receive the discount:
Step 1. Add a qualifying Nikon Z8 (Body Only) before 11:59PM (AEDT) February 5 2023 (sic).
Step 2. Enter the code "NIKON300" and receive $300 off the Qualifying Items.

Wish they had this kind of a sale on the Z7 II. Z8 is too much camera for me.

    • Sadly not the Z 7II, but the Z 6II on Amazon has a $250 discount, now $2,249.00:

Z6III should be just around the corner with the better AF (from the Z8 and ZF). That is probably the reason the Z8 is getting cheaper too..

      • Tough on all those eBay sellers still after $2.5-3k for a used Z6II. For anyone not already invested in Nikon glass, I don't see why they'd choose a Z6 (I/II or III) over the S5II.

        • The S1R update is grossly overdue. Wonder if Panasonic will ever get around to it.

    • Z f maybe meets that criteria

    My D850 still going strong

    • D850 a classic

    • Been wondering if it's worth it to upgrade to Z8 from D850, considering I have quite a few F lenses, and will have to use the FTZ adapter if upgraded.

Depends what your use case is.. For landscape stuff.. probably not. If shooting people, then the new eye AF of the mirrorless cameras is pretty damn good.
The FTZ adapter works pretty flawlessly. I mainly use it on newer lenses though like the 105 1.4.

Depends on what you shoot. For example, if you cover Events then face-detect auto-focus will be a big boon. Even portraits will be easier with face/eye detect auto-focus. Ditto for wildlife.

However, if you primarily shoot landscapes then don't bother as there will be little to no improvements.

It's mainly products and landscape, don't do any portraits or people related stuff. Guess I'll keep the D850 for a bit longer, thanks!

      • If your GAS as bad as mine was 10 years ago then you got no choice really haha!

      • I’m in the same boat. Have a D850 for events as my Z cameras AF aren’t as reliable. Thinking of replacing the D850 with this so I’m not hanging on to a bunch of Z mount and F mount lenses.

        • Which model Z camera AF isn't as reliable? Hopefully they're improving with each generation, especially in low light.

          • @enthusiast: I have the Z6 and Z7ii. Used the Z7ii for a wedding and the room was lit with some natural light and indoor lights but the focus just wasn’t as quick as the D850, in tracking a subject or quick candids. I’ve heard the Z8 AF is at the level of their professional DSLRs. Like others have said, landscape and travel is great, when you have time to compose your shot. I can’t rely on them for events.

I upgraded my studio & action DSLRs to mirrorless (d800 to Z7, D4 to Z9), I can say from my own experience that the larger size of the z mount really does allow a series lenses amazing image quality and stunning sharpness despite the cost.
I find FTZ adapted F mount lenses to be super noisy during video, so try off camera mics or use a native Z mount lense. I find face detect in low light only reliable on the Z9. Premiere pro still does not support NRAW video. From a usability standpoint, mirrorless give me game changing features: it lets me love preview the exposure changes instantly and allows for in viewfinder zoom to double check that eyelashes are sharp at wide open aperture. This has allowed me to shoot pro lenses to their maximum sharpness very very reliably. I hope this helps!
