Do You (Heart) Pink? Cost of SMS to Donate $1 for Pink Ribbon Day

Moved to Forum: Original Link

I know this isnt a bargain but it all goes to a good cause.

Just SMS your name to 044 SUPPORT (0447 877 678) between 7am-6pm on Pink Ribbon Day, Monday 22 October, to see your name up in ‘pink lights’ on Telstra’s giant LED billboard in Bourke St Mall in Melbourne.

You will receive a free MMS on your mobile featuring your name up on the big screen. In return, for every unique text received, Telstra will donate $1 to Cancer Council Australia (up to $10,000).

Ia this number special?? Do thy charge my bill $1?? Like those sex hotlines?? Or just standard text!?

    • no, dont think so, not a special mobile number

    • Fair enough question I don't know why you got negged, maybe the sex hotline comparison.
Anyway I can confirm it is charged as standard SMS. I am on Telstra Simplicity Prepaid and it came up as 12c on myaccount.

Nice to see that Telstra aren't limiting this to Telstra customers only. Hopefully they don't use the numbers they collect for telemarketing.

The SMS I received after sending the text had a little "Optout Mktg?" so, probably ..

      • Now we have to send another message to opt out

  • that's awesome. :) Tried it…got a pic back. LOL

I wonder if it's photoshopped, or they actually have got some camera across the road to take the picture.

Mine has a cyclist and one of those new trams passing by in the bottom.

      • +1

Mine has the tram but no cyclist

I've done 4 and the foreground is different in each picture

        • how long does it take to receive the mms back? do you sms your first + last or just first name?

        • +1

I just used one name, and it took about 20 secs for me to get it back.

      • i guess it photoshopped cause mine have cyclist wearing white helm and tram passing by.

I can see it from my building on Collins St, hadn't come up for about 2 minutes after I sent it. The message was sent me, so the image seems to be automatically generated.

    • Obviously your goat brain can't comprehend what this charity is about.

Clearly a joke guys.. gees. I didn't really neg it.

It takes about 30 seconds. I am just using first names of people in my family. I think it only accepts one name.

  • +3

I put in the name Optus and it came back saying Telstra loves pink. That is soooooooo cheeky

  • Tried Vodafone and nothing came back.

Mmm unlimited texts… time to light up the melbourne sky?

  • "Please note that it is a term and condition of texting to 0447 877 678 that you agree to your name and message being shown on Telstra’s LED billboard in Bourke St Mall in Melbourne."

    Must be real

All cancer charities are scams, 3 decades of donations and NOTHING has been accomplished because these charities do absolutely nothing beside buying adverts with your money so they can get more money (no where do they even claim the money goes to finding a cure). You're just buying another porche for the pink ribbon day CEO. If you want to do something nice give the dollar to local organisation that you see directly doing good - like a local animal shelter.

    • I don't agree they are all scams, but pink ribbon is not generally considered one of the more beneficial charities as it is so commercialised. Also why so many companies jump on board (appearances over function).

      • Company's jump on board because marketing dollars are worth a lot more spent on charitable donations and publicising them rather than paying for a couple of billboards.
