Bosch Series 6 French Door 605L Fridge Stainless Steel KFN96APEAA $1999 (Was $2949) Delivered @ Costco (Membership Required)

940

Harvey Norman is selling it for $2999 and appliances online for $2678 so $1999 seems like a good price including delivery. I had a look at this one before but unfortunately it's too tall for my space so I had to settle with a Mitsubishi, but Bosch seems like a good brand and according to appliances online it's made in China.

Settle for a Mitsubishi??? Surely, you jest, sir!

      Biggest humblebrag lol

Thank you for correcting my typo, my brain was saying settle for but my hands were typing settle with. I guess I'm heartless as they say in Metropolis: There can be no understanding between the hand and the brain unless the heart acts as mediator.

My Mitsubishi is just a basic model not like those fancy ones with lots of drawers, it's a good fridge but I think the Bosch is quite a decent fridge as well and it's "German engineered". BTW the top of the range dishwashers from Ikea are made by Bosch-Siemens in Germany.

If you want to be upgrading every year, it's better to buy a Samsung.

    • +1

This comment is so true. Unfortunately too many Aussies are just cheap so Samsung sells their rubbish so well here.

    • Yeah. Love our Mitsubishi. We also inherited a Samsung - hate it. Handy as a beer/party fridge but so damned noisy. Just waiting for the compressor to fail, then will drag it onto the nature strip for hard rubbish.

    • Buy a new fridge every year?? Man that’s wasteful unless you sell it to someone.

I so have the old Westinghouse we were given as an engagement present. 😂

    • really? was looking at a $3k+ samsung… this makes me worried

      • +1

LG / Samsung use loud compressors. I would not advise.

      • just bought a samsung 648L french door, with a 5 year warranty. You can get it from good guys for like 3K plus warranty then use gift cards ;) I would not worry if you're buying the new one, with the ice maker in the freezer. It's all good, also it very quiet

  • +3

    no ice machine…
    how this compare with
LG 635L InstaView Side-By-Side Refrigerator $2488? ice machine
LG 655L Side by Side Fridge in Matte Black Finish $1499? no ice machine
Hisense 634L French Door Refrigerator 1702? price beat ice machine
HISENSE 650L PUREFLAT FRENCH DOOR FRIDGE – HRCD650BW Sale price $1,799.00

apparently there are so many, I donno much about fridges…

    • +4

I cant comment on the Bosch fridge, but I've had the LG instaview for about a year now and love it.

The sphere feature is a game changer.

      • +1

What pray tell is a "sphere feature"?

        • I'm assuming Chimi is referring to the fact that the LG can make round ice balls.

    • Pretty sure that Hisense is discontinued, the current model is the HRFD634, around the same price.

Mitsubishi is a much better product than Bosch in fridges. 7 year warranty on the one I purchased 10 years ago still going great .

    • +2

Admittedly I have no real idea about how they compare, but when I was buying a new fridge a few months ago I found that Bosch were few and far between (had to be ordered in to HN, for example), and couldn't really find any experiences online. Mitsubishi on the other hand were praised consistently, at least for their higher end made in Japan stuff.

      • +4

I think people including myself will write reviews when a break down occurs but when a product never gives trouble we don't write reviews about them very often if at all but will recommend when the chance is there .

    • they normally will die between year 8-10…. I mean compressor…

      • Got a Bosch fridge here. 12 years old last Dec and still working fine. Sample size of one though.

        • Bosch make stuff in many countries these days. Its not all quality unfortunately.

    • I have got the samsung one, it is ok, just ok, apparently review is not so good, I would try a different brand in future..

    • No ice / water on any of the Mitsu fridges. Bout time they came into the current century. Fridge goes fine though.

      • +10

It's probably one of the reasons why their fridges fail less. The ice/water function is one of the things that tends to fail the most on fridges that have them, in particular Samsung and LG fridges. The Mitsubishi fridges do have an internal ice box, and for chilled water I'd rather keep a large water bottle inside than have something that causes me issues over there life of the product.

        • -2

I mean, if someone can't reliably make something that dispenses frozen water, we may as well start banging rocks together.

          • @whichwhatwho: It's perfectly fine for you to buy something else if it's an important feature for you.

OTOH I'm glad they don't add useless features like ice water dispenser and increase the probability of things going wrong with their otherwise reliable product.

      • Just another thing to break and need maintenance. Plus many older homes are not or cannot easily be plumbed up… speaking from personal experience.

      • +1

Don't wish for that. My friend just have to call plumber because the incoming pipework leaks after 5 years. And to be honest the feature sucks anyway if you stores a lot of meat and fish/seafood in the freezer compartments because no matter what those raw smell will make it into water and ice.

  • +2

Mitsubishi Electric is where it's at. Bought 15 for the company a few years back and still going strong. No issues. They look amazing too.

    • They seem to avoid water & ice dispensers…

      • +10

Gimmik. Clogs up the filter and makes yucky mould grow.

      • My Mitsubishi has an ice dispenser. It isn’t plumbed, though. But works fine.

        • I'm not sure if I want one or not, the convenience is nice, but as others have pointed out there is the potential for issues.

          • +1

@The Judge: It takes about a minute to pull the filter and bits apart for cleaning. Totally worth it for the convenience of the ice drawer.

      • Ice makers in the freezer is fine.. Most of the issues come from people not plumbing is correctly and leaks from behind.

mitsubishi here too - great fridge

  • Can someone recommend me a Mitsubishi fridge?

    Dimensions Heright 1700 Depth 600/750 Width 900
    Budget 4k

Was considering either the 564L LX French Door or the 700L WX Series French Door

    • +2

700L apparently a banging fridge. Waiting for a deal - they rarely go as low as $3500 or even $3200.

The size for volume is leagues above others.

    • +1

I got the Mitsubishi L4 580L French door because of its height but 950mm is too wide for your space, the WX series 470L fits ok but maybe too much gap on both sides. Maybe you can look at other brands, the liebherr CNPef 4416 should fit but it's only 368L https://www.andico.com.au/products/liebherr/fridges/bottom-m…

Is the height you have exactly 1700mm? If you can have a little bit more height maybe this fisher and paykel or something similar:
      https://www.fisherpaykel.com/au/cooling/refrigeration/contem…

      • Any thoughts on the LX vs L4? Our Fisher and Paykel recently carked it (only 4 years old, wtf?) so looking to spend a bit more for more longevity. Got a credit from Product Care to use.

Thanks for this post btw, very timely and I wouldn't have known about the Mitsu fridges otherwise

  • Might be good to include the Costco membership cost in the description too. $65 a year, so for non-member, still cheaper than other competitors.

    • You can get around the cost of the membership by buying gift cards and using them.

  • Always Hitachi ✋
    ☺️ 日本製

I had to translate that. Made in Japan, are they all? Good to know, thanks.

  • +1

@Connected can you please add 605L to the title.

    • Done, thanks.

  • +2

You have a better choice with Mitsubishi. In my opinion, in a $2000 plus sector, Mitsubishi is the best. Bosch which is made in China cannot be compared to Mitsubishi which is made in Japan.

  • +2

Choice rated the 605L Bosch KFN96VPEAA quite poorly at 43%. Note that it's a slightly different model no. from the one in this post.

  • "I had a look at this one before but unfortunately it's too tall for my space so I had to settle with a Mitsubishi" -

Seems like a bit of "click-bait" going on here.

It comes with a 2-year warranty only :(

  • This model is Bosch branding by name only not in build and quality.

  • +1

I had a Bosch a few years ago. Could not handle hot humid Brisbane summers. Ice cream would melt. Sold it and bought a Fisher and Paykell which has been flawless.

    • Our Fisher and Paykel is still going strong after 15-odd years - never an issue. I’m considering upgrading in the next couple of years only because I’m assuming newer models are more energy efficient, though I haven’t yet researched that.

    • i don't understand this. Unless you don't have central aircon in the house.

  • I got out of stock for a Perth delivery address.

    • Thank You for contacting Costco Perth,

If you are trying to order a Fridge online unfortunately the fridge is to large to be delivered into Perth as all item online do come from over east.

That's why you are finding that its saying out of stock. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause for you.
      Kind Regards

  • I have 10 year old sharp ( Nano deodorizer,plasmacluster and with
J-tech inverter technology ) and it’s working perfectly. Only issue was fingerprints every where ( little ones ) for few years as it’s all glass front . I knew it but that black colour was just too good to resist. Also had some sharp kitchen appliances and electronics in the past and none failed. I don’t think now we can buy sharp anymore?

  • Ouch. 43% in the Choice review. Looks like a total lemon. Poor temperature evenness, Very poor temperature stability in freezer and fresh food compartments, Poor food safety score.

    • Most of the German appliance makers have no expertise in engineering and designing fridges so they outsource this. Its evident when you pay Miele's prices for fridges and end up getting a rebadged Liebherr (not that Liebherr is bad or anything but they are just specialists in fridges).

If you're gonna buy a European branded fridge, best not to choose by brand, as most of them dont have expertise and simply rebadge. Choose based on the background of the company making them Eg. you know something is wrong when your Smeg fridge is made in Korea and sounds like a loud cheapie appliance.

  • Bought a 450l Amana ice and water fridge in 2003. Replaced compressor in 2018, otherwise still works perfectly.
