Officeworks AI has already matched unfortunately

    • +8

The truly sinister potential of large price-match models

      • +7

The logical next step after this is for AI to decide the best way to price match is when there are no humans left to set any prices at all

      • -1

It would be interesting if someone could write a script thay highjacks the price match ai for officeworks…

      • +2

You can get much better large-value pre-order models in the latest Galaxy S24 with 7yr updates & pre-order benefits, eg. 256 to 512GB upgrade, Care+ free,… ($100 extra voucher from Samsung expired yesterday)

        • +7

Doesn't help if you want an iPhone.

  • +41

I'm going to get negged for this, so come at me…

…a smartphone should not be costing $1700 … that's so expensive.

    • -3

      Especially its an iPhone.
The specs does not justify the price.

      • +1

Some would say the support around the phone, is factored into the price,
ie. being able to take the phone to a 'Genius'.

      • -4

iPhone has better build quality and the most advanced material.

        What’s wrong with iPhone’s spec?

      • +5

Find me an android that’s still selling its 90%mark after one year

        • +1

          And this is bad?

        • Samsungs (after the usual discounts that can be had) actually depreciate at a similar rate to iphones now since iphones never really drop in retail price. Yes relative to samsungs RRP it looks bad but at the end of the day its so widely discounted its rarely bought at RRP

          • +2

@Drakesy: So after the samsung has already depreciated 50% of its value within 3 months, it then depreciates at the same rate as the iPhone? Yeah that's not a good thing.

        • Fold 5 was selling for $900 after discount stacking. After 3 years you could still sell that for a small profit.

          • @krisspy: But that's still < 50% of what it cost brand new RRP, not 90% like iPhones.

      • +2

Nor does it’s functionality, its a toy compared to Android

    • +4

There’s another thread on the jb hifi iPhone deal that goes on and on about this. Can join in on that thread

    • +8

Also no ice cream should cost more than $7 for a litre tub

    • +16

1TB storage should not cost $900 more than the 128gb, that's biggest rip off here imo.

      • +11

Nah bigger rip off is bars charging $18 for a glass of wine when the whole bottle can be bought at Dan Murphy for $20.

        • +5

That's the price of ensuring everyone (eg. service industry)
has a decent standard of living here,
otherwise we get the U.S. system and I won't want that.

        • +1

Good thing bar owners don't show up to your front door, pull out a pistol, and force you to their bar to buy an $18 glass then.

    • easier to justify if your employer lets you salary sacrifice it.

    • No, it shouldn't, but as we've already established in the JB deal, where there is demand, there will be supply.

    • +3

It's like saying a car should not be costing $500,000, yet ignoring the fact there are more maintstream options available to you at far cheaper and obtainable prices

    • Exactly you could buy a car at these prices! Just crazy

    • Why does anyone care about how much others are spending on things?

      • +3

Because overspending by others in the current economic environment affects you and I all in the form of inflation 😀.

        • +1

I think that would be a reasonable argument if it came to common goods, but fact is you can get a very, very cheap phone if you wanted to. The iPhone is a high end phone, you don't see people complain about the price of Lamborghinis when you can buy a Toyota etc.

    • +2

instead of complaining why not just get born 30 years earlier become a boomer become a property investoor and never have to worry about money again, I seriously think you’re doing it wrong

    • Yeah it is ridiculous. I assume a fair amount of revenue is directed to software development and customer support, both of which Apple do well. I don’t think I could switch back to Android.

  • +7

iPhone 15 Pro 128GB $1699.99 at Costco if you have a membership.

    • +14

The real deal is always in the comments

    • I had no trouble getting OW to pricematch and give an additional 5% off too

      • Can you explain how you did this please? Did you need to prove with a photo?

        • +1

I just told the cashier at OW I wanted to pricematch to costco. He looked up the price on his computer (I had it on my phone but he never looked at it).

He said ok, then did some typing on his end, grabbed a manager to approve the price (who did it without really looking), and I paid and we were done.

  • +2

bloody ripoff if you ask me.

    • +6

Same as my rent. My landlord is also ripping me off. What to do?!

  • +1

Funny thing is how 14 pro is selling for $1600 and people still call this a deal. At the same time last year pixels are half price.

    • +1

      15 > 14

      • I know, USB port

But still… compare prices of Samsung 23, Pixel 7 and iPhone 14 now… shame Apple, shame… actually is shame for people buying them :)

    • There's bad and good thing with iPhone pricing. You can sell your 2 years old iPhone at much better price compare to Pixel of the same age. Basically if you want to get the latest flagship without searching through Ozbargain better buy iPhone during pre-order sales and its safe to say your iphone not gonna drop its price significantly for the next 2 years. If you want to get android make sure to look for a deal with ~40% off RRP(its usually the sweet spot), lots of phones offer these kind of deals during pre-order as well.

    • Its the status symbol element. With a 14 pro you can still look like a rich person when you are out/on the train etc (unless you look at the charger port)

  • Does anyone have any thoughts on rather large amounts of iPhone 15 pros that go cheap on eBay? Seems like a lot of new "opened but not used" items by people with zero feedback. I mean, doesn't eBay offer protection? I'm not switched on enough to understand the scam but surely with the amount offered there is either a catch or just some 'safe' workaround??

    • +2

They are high risk items for credit card scams to then flip and cash to someone else.

We have higher amounts of scamming occuring in Australia, I have heard many volume concerns from people working in financial services fraud and disputes.

      See Brian Krebs

    • +2

They are usually fakes which look almost original
      Or
They maybe phones with issues eg cracked or scratched screen with liquid screen protectors on which hide all of them
      Or
      Credit card skimmers

      Basically stay away items

    • Hey @mousie and @backupper1. Thanks for the feedback. Yeah will definitely give it a miss. I am just surprised at how many there are and how eBay must deal with it

  • I prefer android although iPhone does have Satellite SOS and Car Crash Detection, the S24 decided to skip those features again which is strange normally it is the other way around.

  • 5% discount, how generous

  • Bought iPhone 15 pro 256gb for $1804 at officeworks(Pricematch with costco)
using flybuys will give you 9000 flybuys points which approx = $40-$45.

    • Did you have to prove to Officeworks that you had Costco membership for this?

      • +1

No. we have shown the costco link on our mobile phone.

    • can you please share the receipt? Thanks

  • Wow 128GB is a lot of space, hope they release a 32gb version 😀

  • Wish my iPhone 15 pro didn't overheat

    • It shouldn’t, take it back.

      • yeah a few people I know has theirs warm up randomly
