Should be a $300 device, can keep waiting

    • +10

100% agree with this as someone who bought one at $599.

    • +4

Can you suggest a comparable tablet at that price point?

      • Tab S9 FE for sure.

        90hz screen
        IP68

        • Tab 9FE is not really a $300 device… Yes there has been the one convoluted deal where you had to stack a heap of different coupons that you "potentially" could have, but generally speaking it's a $550+ device.

          • +1

            @Binchicken22: I'm suggesting the S9FE is a much better tablet at $599.

            • @11112007: That's nice. Although the ask was for a $300 price point

Decent price! I purchased when it was $599 with the free case.

PSA for anyone that wants to buy

      • The 60hz display on the tablet is horrendous, coming from someone who has both a mix of 120hz phones and older 60hz iPads. This is by far the worst, it's jittery as hell and ruins the experience.
      • The speakers are also less than ideal to be honest (Tinny) and the dock doesn't help much.
      • The OEM case is a must with the stand, I can't see myself using it anywhere near as much if I didn't have this.

Other than that, everything else is great! primary use is watching YouTube / Netflix

      • Other than that, everything else is great! primary use is watching YouTube / Netflix

lol, most shows are shot at 24-30 fps, to claim that it's "jittery as hell" is actually wild.

and i say that as someone running a 120Hz phone and 60Hz OLED tablet.

        • +3

I should have clarified, Yes the vast majority of stuff is 24/30fps in which case its perfectly fine!

I'm referring to when you are going in and out of apps, navigating the UI, scrolling web pages etc. Anytime there is input/motion required it's very obviously clunky. I don't believe it's hardware related either, many similar comments on the Pixel phones when run at 60hz, either A series or dialling down the pro phones refresh rates. Its to do with the animations on Google's end.

        • +1

You can have a 120hz panel that is extremely blurry in motion at 30fps because of horrific response times (ahem macbook pro), that's not how that works.

Just because it can do 60hz and the content is 24fps, dosent mean the panel is any good when running at 24fps.

Na, $300 is a bit of a lowball.

Like obviously the cheaper the better, but if you compare it to what's in the market there is nothing
$300 or under except busted arse A series Samsung tablets or Lenovo/other random Chinese tablets that get 1 android version update if you are lucky and potentially aren't even whitelisted for Netflix etc.

$500 is I think a fair price for this, especially considering the dock.

    • $299

  • This seems like an overpriced base model. They should make a pro version of this tablet as well.

500 nits max brightness and this is supposed to be a "Home Display" as well lol

    • +1

What is the ideal value of the nits for tablets?

  • This maths ain't mathsing. Isn't it $539.10 with a 10% discount? Credit doesn't equate to savings in this situation surely

    • +2

It's 10% of RRP not listed price.

      • Correct. 10% off RRP of $899

    • Surely….

  • It’s still too expensive for what it is and does.

    • +3

What is it and what does it do?

    • +3

For me, multi user support and the smart display functionality, combined with the fact that it's always charged makes it a much better home table than an iPad.

      • +5

I personally wouldn't use this or an iPad for a home table

  • +3

It's a great tablet but a terrible assistant. The hub does nothing but provide power and a speaker - no separate mic or any smarts built in. Can't hear me half the time and it can't do multiple users so it won't even add things to the shopping list for my wife. Very mixed feelings about it so far.

    • It does support multiple users.

      • +1

Have you actually done it? Becausd google themselves say it only supports the primary user for voice match. Happy for you to tell me how you got it to work. https://support.google.com/googlepixeltablet/answer/13554839…

        • I believe I've tested it before, but the other user had to log into the profile, which is suboptimal, I agree.

          • +2

@elektron: I just want to be able to simply have my wife add things to thr shopping list or cast my apps like Netflix. It makes you go over to the tablet and log in - that's garbage. May as well just turn it off and put a home mini next to it.

    • It is a terrible home assistant. For example you cant view Google Nest cams on the hub….

  • Is it dead? Click on the link and it says page not found?
