65" Samsung S95B vs TCL C845

Howdy, I'm in the market for a new TV to upgrade from my trusty 55" Samsung 1080p, mainly due to getting a PS5. That aside, we use it for general TV, Netflix, YouTube etc.

After research, I had settled on a TCL C845 Mini-LED, and was waiting for a deal to come up that brought it sub $1500.

After visiting a local Retravision, they had a local deal on a Samsung S95B OLED for $2k, which got me re-researching, and seemed like a decent price. They were going to use it for display but broke the coaxial plug while unboxing, that's been fixed.

The Samsung is pushing the upper end of my budget, but currently is only $200 more than the current TCL price, and I understand it to be technically superior to the TCL.

The Samsung doesn't have DV, and has a 1 yr warranty. The TCL does have DV and a 3 yr warranty. But I'll admit I'm a bit stumped, which would you choose? Thanks 👍

I don't have S95B, but I do for S90C and C845. As both TV sizes are the same, my sitting position is the same for both too. If not mistaken picture accuracy in 90C Filmmaker mode can be used as is, but will require calibration for 95B. Compared to 90C Filmmaker mode, the C845 Movie mode feels a little bit yellow red-ish (not as accurate) from the factory. The C845 has a great local dimming in my opinion, with blooming being very subtle. The sound is better on C845 thanks to the subs. Better OS on TCL for apps and basic TV configuration also more functional TV remote compared to too minimalistic Samsung remote. I setup the Series X to C845 and the TV can display 120Hz and VRR. It tells you every time you have DV or HDR 10+ or HDR (nice things to have) in games or streaming apps.

If you want to calibrate the TV, 95B is worth having. Otherwise, you won't be disappointed with the C845.

    • Great to know, thank you.

I'd take the OLED with Samsung software over a mini LED with TCL software any day personally

The OLED is the far superior tv.

Definitely the Samsung. The 'high end' TCL's I've owned have all died in under 4 years, had slow software and had various glitches over their short lives.

  • Good to know, thanks all! I'll swing by and see if it's still there…
