  • Nice price, is the meat vacuum packed?

No they don’t come vacuum packed, they are fresh cut up daily.

They have this special on quite regularly. A few things to note:

    • When they have this special it's quite common to get there and find that they have none on display because someone bought them all earlier (serious - I've seen people walking out with trolleys full of pork belly). Last time I went I had to wait half an hour for some fresh pieces to be brought out, and I wasn't able to pick and choose.
    • I've found that the pieces of pork belly I get here to not be great for crispy pork belly - they're either too fatty or don't have enough fat. Might have something to do with the above.
    • Go outside of peak times (i.e. really early in the morning or during the day) or be prepared for a loooooong wait…

Thanks for this. I see them roasting them too, and selling the cooked pork belly crackling cut at $20 per kg. I thought that was GREAT value, so bought some to try.

You're right about the crackling, it isn't consistent. I had to cube it up and pop them in the air fryer to make it 'nicer'. Saturday late morning is nuts. Will scope this out.

      Thanks OP!

    • @frugaljerk - Indeed they do have this special regularly on pork belly, which really goes to show how much Coles and Woolies do over charge customers for pork belly and that they can come down with their prices… Coles and Woolies have been charging $17-$21 per kilo for pork belly for the last 2 or so years.

They open at 6:30am and close 5:30pm, when exactly would you say their peak times are? I work in Parramatta and often go to the Pendle Hill Meat Market during my 1 hour lunch break. I have been purchasing pork belly from there regularly since the beginning of 2022. I have never experienced what you have described, I cook perfect crispy pork belly with what I buy there every time either in my oven or on my Kamado Joe charcoal BBQ, or Weber Genesis gas BBQ… If you regularly have an issue cooking crispy pork belly with their pork belly I’m thinking it could be your cooking method that’s at fault here.

Generally they’re stocked up when I go and can select whatever size piece I’m happy with that isn’t too fatty or has enough fat, but the odd time they have had none on display because they have been completely sold out for the day or are in the process of cutting up more… If they’re in the process of cutting up more rather than waiting 30 minutes if you ask the staff and describe to them your quality preference they’re generally happy to go grab you a piece from out the back. You’re right, some people do walk out with trollies full of pork belly when it’s on special for this price, like any other business though it’s first in first served, maybe they could implement a limit per customer though.
