    Never buy HP

    • +3

And never let family or friends buy HP, or Dyno.

      • You mean Dymo?
        May I ask why Dymo?

        • Lol yeah.
Tried to edit but couldn't. Damn autocorrect.

They added DRM to their paper/labels.

  • +2

Their business model is printing as a subscription service. So the printer needs to be free.

    • +1

Nah, you have to pay for the printer as well to ensure you don't damage their property/their costs are covered if you do. They aren't running a charity.

      /s

      Avoid HP like the plague.

Fail to renew your subscription? Remotely Brick your printer.
Not connected to the internet, Brick your printer.
Use 3rd party ink? Brick your printer.

Need to print in just Black? No, because you're out of Cyan… so F U.

    Thanks OP

That is a lot of money for landfill.

  • Don’t buy HP Printers , get a Brother printer

  • HP scamming the users

  • seriously forget your outrage about thier corporate strategy, can this be used as a cheap printer or not? How can they know what brand of ink you have filled the tank with?

    • They DRM the printer cartridge, and this is a $348 inkjet.

      • DRM?

        • Device Rights Minimisation.

Nah, Digital Rights Management - essentially licensing and edge supply chain restriction. Think draconian software licenses that make your hardware unusable if you want to exercise your options on an otherwise free market.

      • cant you just refill the tank using a bottle of ink? Looks like the brother printers you cant even refill the tanks, you still need to buy cartridges so whats so good about them?

that's the plan.. For me total cost of it was little less than $300 with gift card and office works price beat.. But I can't find a colour laser printer at this price point. even if you buy genuine HP ink bottle this comes out cheaper than equivalent number of non-genuine cartridges(inkstation). But everyone to there own I guess.
if you are concern there is Canon megatank at similar price can't remember the exact model number, however it doesn't do duplex printing which was important for me..
