8ft Body Glove Foamie Surfboard $69.99 (Club Price, Normally $269) + $49.99 Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Anaconda

590

Cheap foamie surfboard. Probably not amazing quality, but probably fine for the kids, as a spare, or if you're learning. Shipping is expensive (~$50 for my address in metro Melbourne) as it's an oversized item

    Nice.

coulda been 69.69, marketing dropped the ball on this one

      • +3

Never forget your bodyglove on a night out

  • Which is a better one for learning?

The long one (this one) or the 5ft 10 one?

    • +1

Depends on your height and weight. An adult learning on a 5'10 board is challenging but fine for a child.

    • +1

      go long

    • +3

It's more on the size of the person.
      5'10 for kids
8' for big kids - adults

    • +5

With a username like that, I'd be going bigger.

    • +2

      Long, please, long.
Extra volume to help you float is always good when learning.
Only possible downside is that it won't fit in a small car and will have to go on the roof (don't squeeze it too much with your roof straps or you'll destroy it).

    • +1

I find long more stable, but it is heavier and harder to gain the speed.

    • +4

Always start with a longboard. You're learning to float and stand at the start, more volume means better floatation. Once you get the hand of the basics, slowly pull back on the size as you learn to turn and cutback.

    • +2

I would hundred percent recommend as a learner using a foam board. So much more buoyant and makes it super easy to catch waves. Especially if you don't ha E access to regular 3ft+ waves. A foam board will catch almost any wave.

  • Thank you all for the advice.

Now need a deal for a roof rack.

    • If your antenna is not in the way lay some towels down on the roof and strap your board over them. The straps will come into the cabin of your car which can be annoying.

      • +13

And put one twist in the straps each side to stop them resonating at speed.

        • +2

Na, no need for straps mate.
Two arms out the passenger windows, one front, one back…
          Just don't let go mate.

        • Is this really a thing?

          • @askvictor: at speed, yes

            • +2

@Hasbulla: Oh wow. And I've been packing towels and socks at every possible resonance point. Thanks!

        • Hey @stumo, do you know if this would be an issue with soft roof racks? I grabbed the below racks with the surfboard, will pick them up at some point this week. A couple of reviews I've read say there might be a noise issue above certain speeds but I'm also thinking you aren't supposed to twist the straps in those roof rack systems. My uneducated workaround to minimise movment and vibration of the straps would be just some small towels at the corners of the straps where it curves down the edges of the car..? (Also minimising any potential stratching to those roof sections where the strap curves around the cars roor frame?) Thanks in advance for any info.

          • +1

@WasBargain: One twist is fine on these, its not securing 5 ton of pallets (in which a twist in the strap is illegal for truckies, but then their straps are much thicker and designed not to be twisted).

Me and my mates have been doing the one-twist-trick for decades, specifically on soft-racks. You do you, but foamie aside, its a 100% guaranteed sign of kook-ism when there are towels and all sorts of random crap jammed in the softrack straps.

            • @stumo: Most likely a kook as I'm a 30+ year old beginner.. 🤣 Thanks for the info though, will try and let you know if it makes it home in 1 piece.. 😅

      • I never thought of that I may test it thank you.

    • +2

For a foamie you can get away with just straps as others have said. Alternately you can get a soft-rack (which is basically straps with some foam for cushioning). But you'd be surprised what you can fit into even a hatchback - if you lay the front passenger seat all the way back, put the nose of the board into the passenger footwell. Only lets you carry one passenger (behind the driver).

  • Ordered for click and collext, thanks been looking for one for my wife for ages

  • Can we paddleboard with this?

    • It would be a challenge!

      • +1

        Maybe little skinny kiddies can?

    • Yeah, if you're 20kg soaking wet you'll be fine to use it as a SUP

I've had so much fun with my $60 Kmart surfboard and even tho it's garbage quality it was still so worth it.

My friend got this one from anaconda but in the wood pattern, it's much better quality, proper fin box etc.

Very tempted to get it as a spare hmmm. If you get 5 uses it's pretty much paid off. Hmm..impulses

    • We have Kmart surf board, it is not good for surfing…. It is just way too light….. So get this one instead….

  • +2

As a note of caution, many people enjoy surfing so much that they end up buying 'proper' boards, about 6-8 of them, multiple wetsuits, 15 bars of wax, tubes of sunscreen and a house at the coast and/or trips overseas. So before you cough up your $70, make sure you arent one of these people.

also, if you do buy this board, you need to wax it ($6ish for a block, buy the one that matches the water temp, every surf shop sells them and they are all basically the same). Looks like it comes with fins but not with a leg rope (leash). Can get away with a $40 or $50 leg rope (leash) if you are in small surf (creatures of leisure etc). Dont get a 'comp' leash (thin), get a regular or big surf one. You will need an 8ft leg rope (length of leash = length of board; although 9ft will be fine as well). Doesnt look like Anaconda sell them.

    • +4

I can confirm it comes with a leash (bought one the other day) 👍

      • yeah, thought it was weird it didnt but the website said it came with fins and didnt mention the leash. Anyway, great, no need to buy a leash. Pretty good deal

    • +1

Waxing a foam board is not so critical. I started off on an 8ft foamie and am now one of those people that bought more boards, went on surf trips, goes to the wave pool, etc. No regrets - what is life for if it is not for doing things that make you happy? Great for my mental health and fitness as well.

But yeah, it's not an easy sport by any means.

      • Might depend on the model but the Mick Fanning one I have needs wax or you slide around heaps. I

        • Could be, never needed wax with my softlite 8ft foamie. Don't have one anymore though, but I use a lot more wax now I don't use a foamie.

    • Yes, can confirm it got fin and leash both

      • though the leash doesn't look that great quality. And i'm not that great to assess the quality of board either

  • +2

hmmmm tempted to grab this and just shove it in the garage for visitor season in summer

  • Just bought a camper trailer with a boat rack on top, now got something to put there…
    Thanks OP :D

  • +1

Bought one… Because why not. Thanks OP. Now to go surfing.

  • +1

cant wait to see all the kooks in the lineup now

    • +1

What is this line up you speak of? I thought you just drop in if the wave was good. /s

  • +1

Thanks OP. Just picked up the last one in stock at the local store. I bought the same board a couple of years ago and paid $200. Great beginner board for kids/adults at this price.

  • Pulled the trigger hard to beat at that price thanks!

  • How does this differ from a hybrid board?

  • +1

Got one when on holidays for $129. Was happy with that. This is a really good price.
We used wax on it and it peeled up the paint. But it's soft so I don't think the wax is necessary anyway.

Just bought one, was my first purchase from Anaconda, so used WELCOME10 for $10 off additional. Overall $59, its a steal deal i think :)

I still don't know if its the right board for me, so just ordered and i will decide later if i should cancel/return before i bring it home :) Looks like the deal might run out if i sit with decision paralysis

    • +1

My order for click and collect got cancelled, as its not in stock (Chullora collection point). Re-ordered for Eastern creek and is now ready for collection.

Already saw two people in bondi beach yesterday with the board. I didn't see leash on them, now confused if leash was there or not

  • Any recommendations on surfboard covers/ bags?

    • +1

Don’t really need one for a soft board, they don’t break or chip. Can just get a board sock if you want to cover it up

Otherwise most of them are fine; if you want one for a hard board then a different issue

      • +1

Bag can be useful if you're putting it inside your vehicle and don't want to get it sandy or wet.

  • +3

Got mine seems like a pretty decent foamie. Comes with the leash, though it looks pretty flimsy.

It has FCS style fins which is pretty good. I had to buy a set of FCS fins last year for a different foamie, and those fins alone were more than this whole board.

  • Anyone in the Brisbane area having second thoughts? I missed out on the deal and would like to purchase this from you if you decide to return it.

    Thanks

It’s back on sale. I just posted it.
