Creality Ender 3 V3 SE (Direct Drive, Auto Level) $249, In-Store Only @ Jaycar

1450

Hi all, was buying some filament and noticed this deal in store. Price on website is 329 but it's definitely $249 in store. I already have too many printers….but still very tempting. Fixed bed (no levelling knobs) + Cr touch and sprite direct drive at this price is nuts

They had at least a dozen stacked in my local store, all jaycar stores apparently have this special going.

  • Ender 3 S1 Pro for $384 is a pretty good deal too.

    • Expired

  • Wanting to get a 3d printer, slightly scared off a few years ago as they didnt seem too foolproof. Are they more user friendly and useable these days Maybe the dearer ones all were fine, but the cheaper ones a little mor tempramental. I dont want to spend too much on one as not sure how much i will use one. So this is a good device to dip my toe in the water and user friendly ?

    • +2

Auto bed levelling is a tool that will help get more consistent results, but you will still need to calibrate/manage all the other variables.

This will be more "out of the box" then say the Ender 3 V2, but nowhere near "out of the box" as a bambu. I heard qidi printers are pretty "out of the box",but at a lower price - you might pay more / give up print volume, though.

  • Really keen to get into 3D printing, specifically for custom cookie cutters. Anyone have recommendations?

    • You would be ok with this - one of the many challenges with 3d printing is successfully printing a complex print - cookie cutters to me sound pretty simple in that they would be completely vertical (i.e. each layer would print directly into of the previous later) and you wouldnt print super acute angles either. Successful prints are harder when you introduce overhangs and larger prints (e.g. much taller than the 5cm or so of a cookie cutter).

  • I am interested in printing life-size head sculptures and I have a budget of approx $1000. Could someone kindly guide me towards the appropriate printer for my needs? I am a beginner in this field.

    • Your main limitation is the bed size. How big is the head?

      • Lifesize. Normal human heads.
Could the printing be done in multiple goes?

        • +1

If the model you are printing will fit in 22 x 22 x 25 cm then it will work. You'll probably need to use supports for overhangs (ears/chin).
Keep in mind large prints will be extremely slow. Probably 2-4 days.

You can split the model into multiple parts and glue them together but then you will have a seam (obviously).

          • @tanksinatra: Thanks, I think for a real size head 4 pieces need to be printed. I am thinking perhaps using glue and then spraying over the finished sculpture?

          • @tanksinatra: This is of those oddly specific things I work with daily… Almost all heads will fit inside a cube:
200mm left to right (only real wingnut ears will be wider)
250mm front to back (exceptional noses will be longer)
220mm from base of skill to the top.

If you oriented your print so the nose was pointing into the corner you would have even more usable space

    • A bambu P1P is ~900
It's corexy, so super fast and 256mm^3, so definitely better than ender 3
And a lot less fiddling and tuning required

  • +4

This is great value. Having previously owned a clone of the Ender 3 v2, this new version has some major quality of life upgrades to make setup much faster and print quality better:
    - auto bed leveling
    - auto z offset
    - dual z rods
    - direct drive extruder

I wish I had this printer when I was getting started. I'm amazed that Creality can offer these features at this price. It's still a budget beginner printer though and like all Creality printers it will need lots of tweaking to get the settings right.

    • -1

Seems to be a good printer for it's price. It's just I am trying to find a way to print human size head sculptures, which seems challenging

    • +2

Seeing a lot of comments mentioning the tweaking, I own and have used many creality printers, and the default "normal" quality cura settings always worked well for me. Printing months on end with minimal to no maintenance. My ender 3 V2 was printing practically for 1 year straight with no issues. Changed the nozzle a few weeks ago and trimmed the ptfe tube (which is normal maintenance) and thats pretty much all there is.

  • At this price, is it worth upgrading to from the ender 3 v2, and does it work with klipper?

  • +3

I ended up buying one of these today even though i swore i would never by another ender after my shit show ender 3 v2.
So far so good, setup in 10 minutes and is printing a large petg print without any tweaking what so ever
Only time will tell if it keeps printing well

    • Please do report back, I'm sitting on the fence, never owned a 3d printer before and can't think of any ideas of what to make but just overall sounds tempting

    • +1

Nice. I was going to go down and grab one today to replace my "never used" Ender 3 V2. What was wrong with yours?

I didn't end up getting one because I didn't realise they closed at 4 today. Might go tomorrow

      • +1

My ender 3 v2 was just one whack-a-mole problem after another. I always suffered from poor bed adhesion even with a perfectly level bed.

I had so many plastic parts fail, belts snap, hot end failure, extruder failure, mainboard blew itself up….i hate to think how much money i spent on parts to keep that thing running.

I did manage to get some decent performance and good print quality out of it with klipper but its just not reliable…

        • Yeah ok, I had plans when I bought it, but then got sidetracked and never used it.

I was going to do all the upgrades, but sounds like I may as well just give it away and get the V3 SE :D

          • @chromium: I don't think Im alone in this opinion - upgrading an ender is like chasing a high.
You will never get it printing as well as it did out of the box ;)

          • @chromium: @chromium I'm up if you are giving it away - pm me

  • Will it be possible to set up and use the printer today without any additional purchases, apart from the printer itself.?

Or will I need to buy any supplies as well?

    • +1

Haven't bought this so not sure, but Usually come with a small roll of PLA to do a few test prints. It won't last long so probably need to buy some plastic.

      • Thank you

Could you please direct me to the appropriate website or resources for learning about 3D printing? I have no prior knowledge in this area, but I am eager to acquire new skills.

    • I bought the printer this morning. It comes with, I'm guessing, enough pla filament to print the included 3d model of a cat on sdcard. It's currently printing that out now on the freshly assembled printer.

Fyi if you're Jaycar club member you apparently get $10 voucher for $200 purchase. I signed up today and will receive the voucher within 24 hours, which I will likely use towards some pla filament.

      • +1

I got some filament from kingroon (on ozbargain). Sometime sale for 10kg for around $126. Not too bad. Using my dryer box to dry if it is older filament.

      • +1

I picked one up just now and was already a member apparently. The guy told me I'll get a $10 voucher tomorrow.

He also asked if I wanted any filament, but I don't know what I want yet. I assume it came with enough to print something.

They also said I was the first to buy one there today and they sold 3 yesterday

        • Did you get your Jaycar voucher?

          • +1

@smokenmirraz: Yeah, it was on my account pretty much straight away. I put it towards some filament to keep me going on Sunday until the 2 x 1kg spools turned up from Amazon today :D

I got 600g of green PLA from Jaycar for $19.95 after using the voucher. Also got 1kg of each of white and black of Creality value brand from Amazon today. Should keep me going for a while

            • @chromium: Nice.

Looks like there was a problem with my account creation and the voucher didn't come through 🤷

    • +1

You're gonna need to buy some plastic to print with, in the colours you want. Its 1.75mm PLA for most beginners. Usually in a 1kg spool.
I get most of mine from Amazon or ebay. Overture, Jayo/Sunlu and Voxelab have been good brands for me.

    • +2

SIDDAMENT for filament is good, really cheap but the same quality as the name brands like esun

      • Sidd is great to buy off, agreed

  • Would the following be a better buy at 50 dollars more? free shipping

    Creality CR-6 SE 3D

    https://www.inkstation.com.au/2573/creality-cr6-se-3d-printe…

    • What i see this is slower in print speed compared to the above one. Mine goes to 500mm/s but never printed that fast. Usually around 150-200. Some filaments have to be printed very slow. Depends what you are going to use the printer for. I cannot really comment more as haven't used any of these printers. But if I bought my first printer I probably would go Jaycar one. Also because it's locally if something fails.

    • +1

No, that one is not direct drive.

      • So, just to be clear, the one from Jaycar is better even though it's cheaper?

        • +2

Yes, it is direct drive so it will print faster and cleaner.

          • @Ahbal: Thank you

            • +1

@GrungyGirl: Also not sure where you put it. I have mine in the garage as some fumes from some filaments is not good for you. Also there because small kids and plate is hot if they touch it. PLA is considered fairly safe. And doesn't smell too much.

    • +2

I've had a CR-6 SE for years and I love it. Super simple plug and play, auto bed levelling, etc. This V3 looks to be better in a few ways, like direct drive, print speed, etc. I was considering buying this V3 purely for the direct drive, but think I'll just put that $250 towards a Bambu Labs P1S instead.

  • Got me one, thanks OP!!

  • +1

@Ahbal thanks for the deal. I left my Ender 3 (first version) abroad.. used it a lot..
Just grab it from Warrnambool Jaycar store.

Guys, where do you get PLA filament around here with good price?
    Thanks

  • +2

Bought one this arvo. Thanks OP. They still had plenty left. eSun filament was all sold out though so bought a roll of creality grey for $45 until I source some online stuff.

  • Bought 1 thanks, which free software could be the best for beginners?

    • For the slicer? Creality Slicer to start with, but switch to cura once you get the swing of things. All the main slicers are free.

For CAD, that one is up to you, as its down to personal preference (some are free, some are paid).

      • Thanks, downloaded and installed Cura which seems like a very popular universal slicer software.

    • Once you are getting a bit more comfortable and ready to design your own stuff:

Fusion 360 for modelling - works for 3D printing and CNC as well (can request free license for hobby use)
SuperSlicer to turn STL into gcode
OctoPrint to send gcode to machine

  • +2

Printed out the test cat and it came out really well, wasn't expecting this sort of print quality. It took around 1h20m and was literally plug and play. Let's see if it stays this way :)

  • Beginner here, need some advice. Found an orignal ender on marketplace with Creality 4.2.7 main board, CR Touch auto bed levelling, upgraded bed compression springs for $140. Thinking bed levelling is the most important feature at this point which both machines seem to have covered.

Do I go with the og on marketplace or ozb deal?

    • +3

An extra hundred gets you brand new machine with direct drive, dual Z axis, a bed that is fixed (no spings, no knobs, no need to touch it) and not to mention warranty….

      No brainer to me.

    • +1

Go for the V3 SE I reckon. You're not going to be able to add the features this has for the $110 price difference.

    • +3

Thanks for the advice guys, picked up the v3 se from Jaycar, currently mid test print

      • No worries mate!

  • List Top 3 filament supplier please, guys…

    • Cant go wrong with my boy siddament

      • haha I checked, such an honest bloke.

      • +1

$16 shipping seems to kill the deal unless buck buy or pick up. Not sure if they do sales from time to time.

        • +2

The store name makes it Sydneysider pickup exclusive XD.

They have speciality filaments as well, in case you find a problem too hard to solve with the usual ones

    • +1

Comes down to where you live. I'm not in Sydney so I get most of my filament posted from Amazon (Overture, voxelab) or Ebay (Sunlu, Jayo).
The last batch I bought was $13.8/roll from Jayo on ebay delivered and it prints really well.

  • checking in with anyone who has bought the printer recently. like the beginners in this thread I have tried printing a .gcode file but the metrics for the print on the puck are null (0 seconds to complete, 0% done, etc) and the head zips around but doesn't extrude anything.

  • I bought mine yesterday. Happy with it.

Was able too set it up in 15 mins and that would have been way less if I didn't drop one of the black screws on a dark carpet … Such is life. I then did a bed level which seems too take around 5 - 10 mins but could be less when you want too print.. the paint drying between coats thing.

Makermuse on YouTube did a quick mention in a late last year video about sanding a plastic spacer to make bed more level but I would do that with caution and superfine sandpaper little at a time.) Then I loaded up the filament via the instructions. It kept oozing for a bit not much but enough too be a pain ( that want too print thing again ) loaded the SD card with the cat file on it .. not doing anymore then that and then sent it.. came out good for 1st attempt… Then I grab a STL of thing averse put that on the SD card. .. printer didn't see file … " Oh " I say too myself I might need too use a slicer thing so got cura enlarged the model and then SD card into printer and sent it … Now after start it says print time is 4 hours for a 5 mm high project I had a " things that make you go hmmmm" moment 2 hours later didn't know if it was a print or the dog was throwing up on the print bed in white lol time too read a manual ( 3d printing nerd on yt mentioned an open source slicer need have a look at that).

All I can suggest pulling out cables check for bent pins bring up the crealitys. Setup video and go though it

Been so happy with mine getting another one.

  • I tried using the Creality slicer but got put on to Orca by a mate. it had the details for the V3 SE which the creality slicer didn't seem to have, which might explain why nothing would print with the creality slicer. so, now it works.

    • I only got the printer last week and have only used the Creality slicer so far. It has a V3 SE present and it seems to be working fine.

Wondering if I should try orca.

    • I got mine last week. Creality print does have the 3 v3 se profile.

  • Orca, that is the open source one I was thinking about

As this expires today i need some advice.
Never 3d printed before. Watched lots of youtube. Keen to learn.

Am I better off spending the extra cash and buying the Solvol SVO7 with klipper for $406. Dont really need speed but the increase connectivity and klipper could be useful.

    • Having used klipper , and gone through the config a factory klipper would be awesome with I think sv07 has wifi as well. Klipper seems doable on the 3v3 but looks daunting and would be a test of patience. But klipper is amazing once running - want to change a firmware parameter, just update a file, and the moonraker and mailsail interfaces are a step beyond, nearly up there with the latest. My issue is I want a max size 300x300, so its more $$

@ $406 its not far to a Bamboo A1 though so you would have to consider that as well, even though they are being recalled

      • Thanks for the reply. I found the sv07 at 370. But in the end when time was running out i just went down to jaycar and bought this one. The reviews seem ok from those who know.
I don't need speed and realistically i dont need perfection. Reliable and fuss free would be nice though.
At this price im happy to use it for a year and then replace it with something better. It may just end up like most others I'm guessing
In a cupboard and labelled too hard. Lol.

        • Reliable and fuss free is the dream, but even the BambuLabs stuff breaks down or gets recalled and costs a lot more than the Ender.
You will learn a lot from this printer and probably still keep it for certain filaments if you end up getting into 3D printing (and probably buying another one - it's a bit N+1).
          You've done well.

          • +1

@sirsavesabit: Thanks for your support and encouragement. In some ways Im glad i didn't jump in 10 yeats ago when home printing was in its infancy. At least I stand a chance now.
I'm off to watch a million youtube videos and forum threads/ FB pages. :)

First 3D printing experience and have been having a lot of fun with this.
Biggest project so far has been printing a grind dial for a Eureka coffee grinder which required changing filament colours partway during the print:

    Impulse purchased it.

Currently have an original Ender 3, which I've installed a BLTouch and Klipper one. It's been a good machine for me but I've grown tired of the constant whack-a-mole maintenance of fixing one issue, only to need to fix 10 more. I know this isn't going to be Bambu or Prusa levels of quality better, but it seems to be a significant enough upgrade that for $250 I can't really go wrong.

Will repurpose the raspberry pi and get Klipper running on this also.

  • +1

Absolutely loving this printer. It's so much better than my Ender 3 pro. So much faster too. Printed a life sized Velociraptor skull

Thank you so much for posting this deal op.
