Dynamo Professional 7 in 1 Laundry Detergent Liquid 5.4L $27.68 + Delivery ($0 C&C/In-Store) @ Bunnings

240

Randomly stumbled upon this when searching for laundry liquid - was previously getting FAB from Big W for $22.50 for the same amount but this is apparently better.

Local store had a tag on the sticker showing that this ends on 30/1.

Maybe not the all time low per liter - but it's not a bad price.

  • Isn't powder far cheaper? What's the reason for using liquid?
I got the 10kg euca powder for $50. Same $/kg but lasts far longer.

    • +7

I find it smells nicer, feels soft after and I don't get the occasional powder spot on my clothes

    • +7

      Liquid dissolves more reliably.

The auto-dose systems in newer machines only work with liquids and they’re great; use very little product and make it easy for young kids to do their own laundry.

      • +3

Thanks. That makes a lot of sense

    • if you love your clothes, you use liquid.

    • +3

It works better in a front loader and you don't need a lot regardless. Theres no residue that can happen and it stores longer. Whereas those big tubs of powder can go hard if they get damp too.

The 5.4L lasts me between 6-9 months for context.

    • Additionally the bottle is fully recyclable unlike the powder boxes

      • Recyclable doesn't mean it'll be recycled. A cardboard box has a far lower impact.

        • Box is plastic coated to be water non permeable so not easily recycled…
whereas the plastic bottle is already made from recycled plastics and will recycle again.

          • +6

@Kanjus: Most washing powder boxes are not plastic coated at all. At most, the outside will have a U.V coating.
How do I know? I used to make them.

        • Dont argue over recyclables , you know they're scamming us all with this no matter how much id like to believe !

          • +3

@Murkymerv: Not really scamming, just brainwashing us into believing that a bottom up approach (consumer led) will do anything whereas only a top down approach (government mandating packaging standards, e.g. reusing drink bottles as used to be common) has any hope of making a difference.

            • @banana365: Also the fact that big corporations and celebrities can lead the way and have a big impact but they don't care to. They just go with whatever is cheaper and get away with it.

I personally just do what I can without going too far out of my Way. E.G will recycle everything possible, turn lights off, switch to LED bulbs (saves a lot of money of course) and re-use where possible. But I'm not going to spend more on washing powder when we have issues with cost of living, etc.

            • @banana365: Bottom up approach (individuals banding together with Containers for Change, etc, achieved the 10c national (are there exceptions) container refund scheme. Political will comes from demand - it's a numbers game. A little girl somewhere in FNQ led the campaign to remove plastic drinking straws from the game. Understood there's plenty of brainwashing. Such as Brisbane's "New Green Bridges"

              • @Gordon61B: Yes, there has been change driven from the bottom, there's absolutely no doubt about that. The question is what effect those bottom up changes have had to the environmental impact that consumer behaviour has. I would say that it is nowhere near as big as people believe, and certainly not as big as it needs to be. There's also the belief that people have that this will have a significant effect, so "it's all good" and they don't push for changes that will make a difference.

                • @banana365: Mate… until we address the elephants in the room, we're fantasizing.
                  Population.
As communication improves, so does the enthusiasm for the perceived quality of life that comes from material wealth. So everyone wants a new car. And we keep procreating, and demanding new stuff, flights, bigger homes, etc.
                  Population, multiplied by demand.

    • I can only use liquid in my auto dispenser

Some awesome deals from Bunnings on laundry detergent, shame they don’t stock the top of the line for Dynamo or Omo. Still miles better than Woolies.

    • Oh for sure! They have others too but my missus likes this one so its what I ended up with.

    • +1

What is the top of the line for Dynamo / OMO?

We have recently finished using Euca and have a box of ALDI Trimat at the moment. The wife wants to move to liquid when the ALDI box is finished.

Does anyone know if the ALDI liquid version of Trimat is also any good?

      Cheers

      • +1

I swapped from Omo Sensitive to Aldi Trimat Sensitive and I can't say I've noticed a difference.

ALDI seem to have added the 4L Trimat Liquid to their regular stock line now and last week when I checked they were $18.99/4L ($4.7475/L) so pretty consistently lower than most brand names. If you stack a 10% Woolworth monthly shop discount/Amazon S&S discount with discounted gift cards you you can go lower than this for some brand names but given the convenience of getting it at Aldi whenever you need it I often don't bother chasing the brand names especially since I'm a single person household so 4L will last me about 8 months.

        • +1

I'd give this a go if we had an Aldi here - Aldi sounds like a dream haha.

          • @Matt86: According to the September 2023 Choice round up the Aldi Trimat Sensitive is not well rated against Omo Sensitive but I guess YMMV. I haven't noticed a difference but my laundry isn't particularly "dirty". I rarely have grass, blood or dirt/mud stains. It's most it's going to be food stains or sweat in workout clothes/work uniforms.

            • @daanish: Yeah I mean I've got a "rennovator" of a house to a degree and I am a car guy so it does matter for me haha. Other then that the other 80%+ of the time I'm in an air cooled office.

        • Thanks for the detailed reply. We bought the Dynamo from this deal so we are probably set for a little while. I reckon we will give the Trimat liquida go next time.

It's all a bit of a minefield as there are so many choices. The Choice reviews are useful and someone earlier mentioned being able to get previous issues from the library.

          That's very helpful.

      • yes i’m using aldi liquid at the moment as i brought a big bottle when they had laundry sale on

    • +1

No idea - did see it there but apparently the "Professional" one is good.

    • +2

I using that one now as I couldn't find dynamo cheap for a while. I much prefer dynamo

    • +3

Public libraries keep subscriptions to Choice magazine who do comparisons every year or so.

  • +2

Coles had the 4L half price last week (not to mention ShopBack 15% westpac bonus), woolies follows this week 1/2 price, 4L $20.5 same $5.125/L vs $5.126/L to this deal :) Matter of personal preference.

    • Ahh - I get 10% off at Woolworths as they're my carrier - Would have made it cheaper for me - regardless this is still a good deal and is slightly cheaper then the 4L for $20.5 without discount

Discount would have put it down to $4.6x a liter.

      • +1

Amazon has it -4 lr as well with 10% subscribe & save, so would bring it cheaper than Bunnings to $4.61/lr, but with 10% off at WW and 5% discounted gift card woollies price would be $4.38/lr

        • That's true - may S&S depending how I go with this when it's on sale next. Not a bad price overall.

  • Does anyone actually use this stuff? Amazon + Choice reviews look good, but reading some of the Productreview website - the majority are 1 star reviews basically saying they had really bad allergic reactions (rashes etc)… definitely has me worried!

    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/dynamo

    • Girlfriend has sensitive skin and she has used it before and not had an issue.

Have someone that will swap me another brand for this anyway if I manage to.

    • I found out I was allergic to dynamo. It was an absolute pain to work out what was going on. Started off with a few itchy spots that would come and go. Then progressively got worse over ~7 years. To the point where I would keep developing rashes where clothes would rub against my body. Saw doctors but they just said I had contact dermatitis and gave me steroid creams which worked to manage but not prevent it. I was determined to figure out what the cause was and since the rashes appeared where clothes would rub on my skin and it didn't seem to matter what fabric I was wearing I decided to try switching to a sensitive detergent. I rewashed all my clothes. The itchiness and rashes went away within a week. It's been 3 years and I've not had the problem return.

Of course everyone is different, so you may or may not experience a reaction to it.
