Could have just bought ps5 for $550

Slightly off topic but I’m playing through Alan Wake 2 right now too with path tracing maxed out and the game is gorgeous. Easily the best looking game to date.

I was on the HODL brigade, but $1499 was my 'pull the trigger' price… warranty doesn't bother me as I'll be watercooling it anyway.

    • same boat, but need a shorter AIB for my case… so am waiting, waiting

  • $1200 was budget for a long overdue upgrade, agh. Do i push it to $1500?!?!

    • I'd say so. I have a 3080 and I'm kinda tempted lol

      • +3

not worth if you got a 3080 unless you actually have that much money to spare

        • Truth, especially since Blackwell is just around the corner to take our wallets away

          • @dws: maybe next year yeah, personally going to upgrade CPU first in 2025 then see what GPU deals are out there lol.

          • @dws: If Nvidia continues their strategy of pricing new gpus at the same price per frame as their current models, then I wouldn't expect too much with 5000 series unless you want a 5090.

            • @cheng2008: the little 5090 piggy bank gets fatter every week :)

        • Depends, 10gb of vram struggles with 4K in the latest games, especially with frame generation and ray tracing. 16gb would be ideal. But yes, $1500 is not a must upgrade.

  • Glad I read the reviews, the card is a monster compared to the 2080 I am looking to replace.
    267 mm x 116 mm x 35 mm
    vs
    340.42 x 142.9 x 59.41mm

That will teach me for buying a custom Omen system…..

    Bought one. Thanks OP.

  • good price……shit….

  • Running well so far… cant up the voltage or power limit in afterburner though, so overclocking is a bit limited. Considering flashing it to something else with a higher power limit.

  • this would have been tempting if it were this price at launch. now its late into the gen, the 5080 will likely come out later in the year.
might as well keep waiting. if it was $1300 i'd be tempted

5000 series is rumoured to be released in 2025

      • Yep 5000 series said to be 2025, with only 5090 early 2025.

      • thats an old rumour. the more recent rumours are late this year. at least for the 5090. either way they're all just rumours. i dont see why they wouldn't release on the same schedule as usual. its not like the 4000 series is selling particulary well. either way even if it does turn out to be next year, it would most likely be earlier in the year

  • Looks like this will be sold out very soon. Only a few stores have stock left compared to few hours ago.

Doesn't matter how fast this card is, not again after spending $1900 on RTX 3080 back in the day…

Will stick to my RX 6900 XT.

Looks like 1500 is the 4080’s sweet spot. There’s a few stores now that are out of stock.

  • +1

Good but triples my budget lol wonder if I need this if I don't do heavy gaming or editng

  • Any Umart coupon/discount gift card…

    • Never seen any.

  • Waiting for the 4090 to go down in price 😌🤞

    • +2

Never happen until RTX 5xxx come out

That's the price I was waiting for to buy one. I don't believe it'll go significantly lower than that, knowing it's almost 400$ less than the super variant, so it's not time to HODL anymore if you're looking for a GPU.
I managed to get amazon to honor the 949$ 4070ti. It's unbeatable in terms of value so I'll wait for the 5080 to come out now to replace it with the hope it'll handle 4k comfortably in an ultra wide monitor. And then my setup will be complete for the 5 next years :)

  • I remember when i though spending $1000 on a titan graphics card seemed absurd, yet here i am spending half of what i sold my motorbike for on a gpu

I just bought this and picked it up from Umart.

The store rep who gave me the card advised me the 4080 Super was coming out tomorrow and undercutting the 4080 by $200 USD. He said if I returned it the next day with the security seal still intact I could get a full refund and get the newer / cheaper card (or possibly a cheaper 4080). He advised waiting a day to see what happens.

With the cheapest 4070 Ti Super at $1.4k AUD I don't know how the 4080 could go cheaper, or if he even knows what I paid but I'm definitely waiting a day to find out.

    • Smart! That's exactly what I'm going to do.
I ordered the Galax 4080 from MSY yesterday and am still waiting for the pickup notice from them.
If the 4080s come out at a similar price in a week or two, or if other better 4080 models get discounted, then I will return this one and get the other.

ps, look like all pny 4080 are gone

      • Lol, definitely not out of stock. They pulled it because 4080 Super release is in a few hours.

    • The store rep might just be repeating the NVidia statement where the 4080 Super will release with a msrp of $999 (US) compare to the 4080 vanilla which was released with an msrp of $1199 (US).

    • +1

worth waiting for sure, but i can't believe it, just because the other Super releases and current pricing

    • +1

      What a joke

    • +3

20% higher in price but 5% higher in performance
