    1: PS3 hardware may be theoretically faster, but generally harder to code for, so they tend to be about the same.

    2: Xbox has a better online market thing, but they both suck in different ways, and you have to pay for the XBox one.

    3: The XBox is closer to being replaced.

    4: The PS3 is also a Blu-Ray player.

    5: The 12GB PS3 is a joke.

    I'd avoid overtly discussing piracy in a place such as this.

    1. PS3 has free online gameplay instead of paying $50/ month

    2. The PS3's controller has rechargeable batteries whilst you have to pay for Xbox's

      Where do you come up with this drivel?

      You can purchase a 3 + 1 month Xbox Live membership for $34AUD. I'll save you doing the math - that equates to just under $8.50 / mo for membership.

      In addition to that rechargable battery packs are available for the Xbox 360, as well as you can use your own rechargables with the battery adapter. If the battery dies in your PS3 controller you have to throw it out where as you don't lose the whole 360 controller.

  • Not judging you but if you do plan to hack the consoles I'd urge you to still buy the games. It's unfair to all the others who genuinely buy and play games.

    But whatever, I'd be going for the Playstation 3 since their PS+ offering is actually quite good (a monthly fee for heaps of free games and other services). Their games are also quite good and I imagine it still has quite a bit of life still in it. The only downside to a PS3 is the lack of community. However, it's quite decent and it really depends on the types of games you play.

    Good Luck.

    hmm not to promote hacking but if you want to say 'back up' your games then i'd recommend going for the xbox 360, still though try and buy the games because the box cover enough pays for how much the games worth.

    @Bruce
    Sorry, im new in ozbargain
    are there any place that can talk about modding freely??
    thanks

    @xDEFiNe
    yeah, but the free online gameplay is not too good comparing the popular ones
    thanks anyway for sharing

    @fryandlaurie
    yeah, i meant like you said, i will buy the games if i really want to play it until end
    i kinda like RPG, arcade adventure and maybe first person shooting
    thanks

    @ryudo222
    why you would go with xbox? can you please tell me the reason?
    thankss

    • I wouldn't go with the Xbox, as it ends up costing more because of

      a. extra $50/ year on online gameplay
      b. Roughly an extra $10/ year on batteries
      c. No blu-ray player (if that matters to you)

      Also,

      The media player is worse on the Xbox
      The Xbox has lower specs (CPU wise i believe the Xbox has a tri core compared to the PS's 6 core)
      (personal opinion) the Xbox has a higher failure rate

      But,

      The Xbox has some decent exclusive games
      The online interface (chat, parties etc) is somewhat better
      SOME games may be more optimized towards the Xbox
      Some people say that the xbox controller is more comfortable, have used both, i don't think either are better

      Oh and I originally owned an xbox 360 for a year, went to a ps3 for the above reasons and because my friends had one.

      I now have a pc, which is much better than both :D

  • I would have to say that it depends on the games you plan on playing. Despite what most people would have you believe, the performance is pretty comparable between the two, and shouldn't be a deal breaker. Of course, virtually everything in the gaming/fanboi culture is a pissing contest (though a PC would win by far).
    For example:
    * Want to play TESV: Skyrim? Get an Xbox 360, since it has all the DLC and I hear the PS3 problems still haven't been completely fixed.
    * Want to play Halo? Get an Xbox 360 (the only reason I have an X360 is for Halo single player. It sits idly by, collecting dust until I feel the need to kill some grunts.)
    * Other exclusives: Fable (1,2,3) Gears of War (1,2,3), Halo (1,2,3 (+ODST), Reach, Wars, and soon to be 4)

    I have also heard that the Arcade features some quite good indie games, if that's what you're into. Not too sure on the other features, since all I do is play Halo single player :-)

    Obviously I'm coming off as biased towards the 360, but since I don't have a PS3, I can't comment on it too much.

    On the flip side, the PS3 does have some more exclusives (though I can't comment on the quality - never played any); so if you'd rather a bit of variety (particularly in FPS's, I think), the PS3 may be better. I hear Uncharted is quite good, but no others come to mind at the moment.

    On the controller thing; it may be that I've been using them for the most part of two decades, but I find the Xbox 360 much more comfortable. Even after using PS3 controllers for hours, I've never found them to be particularly comfortable, so I think the X360 is more ergonomic and comfortable to use for extended periods of time.

  • LOL
    yeah, i used to play pc, but just got here in melbourne, so planning to get a new one
    thanks :)

  • I have both.

    If you plan to ahem and not play online, XBOX360.

    If you plan to play PS3 only games or play games online, PS3. As PSN is free on PS3. I use an XBOX controller on a PS3, because yeah, XBOX controllers are more comfy to use IMO.

    If you want games that aren't completely buggy and unplayable then get a 360 ;)

    Neither, get a PC.

    Only reason to buy a console is for the exclusive games, pc's have, and always will be better!

    probably should sell my PS3…

  • I own both consoles so not a fanboy.

    I prefer XBL for online play (yes you have to pay $50 a YEAR) for it but the matching tends to work better for me and people on XBL talk where as those PS3 games I do have with online play no one ever does… ever. I also find that it tends to be easier to get a game on XBL than PS3, for some reason online games gravitate to it.

    PS3 is a much better all in one device for media with bluray player and IMO better media centre also PlayTV makes it a good unit for all media needs. 360 isn't horrible, just not as good, although on the plus side no Cinavia like PS3 which is just annoying.

    Games wise, not much of a difference in games although I prefer the 360 controller in my hands than the 360. For games it comes down to which exclusive titles you prefer more.

    In summary I use my PS3 mainly for media and the 360 for gaming.

  • If you need a decent bluray player, a basic media centre with an ok internet browser, want free online gaming and a lust for ps3 exclusive games (uncharted, god of war, etc.) then the PS3 is the way to go.

    If it's just for gaming and no need for the ps3 exclusives and bluray then go for Xbox360.

    Despite the PS3 having better hardware than the Xbox360, most games are still better optimised and perform better on the Xbox360.

    You can have a look at http://www.lensoftruth.com/category/head2head/ for games you intend on buying to see which games will look better in a side by side comparison.

    At the end of the day, the PC is still king when it comes to gaming. All modern games look and run better on PC and even the developers at E3 Games expo are running their latest xbox and ps3 console demos off PCs.
