[Refurb] Apple MacBook Pro 14 M1 Pro (2021) 8c/14c 16/512 $2,299 Delivered @ Apple AU

720

update: Silver OOS, Space Grey (link below) still in stock

rejoice me mates, Apple Certified Refurbished has restocked $2299 base MacBook Pro 14's with M1 Pro (8c/14c) 16/512

best value Apple silicon ever, beats similarly configured Airs by having much better screen, speakers, ports, performance (performance gap between M2 and M1 Pro isn't that big, but Pro is actively cooled so is able to run at higher load for longer)

space gray here:

I ordered a 16/1TB version of this a month ago for $2539, but haven't seen them in stock since. the only difference between Apple Certified Refurbished and brand new is different box. apple replaces almost everything in those inits, they look and feel brand new.

        • yeah I looked at mbp 16 but too heavy for my fked up back. awesome work mate

i think the only thing need to consider between the Air 15" and this M1 Pro 14" is if you need multiple display (more than 2), you need to spend more more money to buy Displaylink dock for the M3, but for M1 Pro, you dont have to….

  • PSA the Space Gray 2021 MBP comes with a silver charging cable (not gray).

Call it a first world problem but it irks me whenever I see it. Can't bring myself to get another cable when they're $69 each

  • Awesome machine. I use it for work and its so fast.

  • Do refurbs also have change of mind return period?

    • +2

they do. when I got mine, I ordered it for Apple store pickup and they mentioned that and gave me 2 weeks period in which I could return no questions asked.

    • Of course. This is Apple we are talking about.

I bought this model on release for around $2,600 when it was released and it's still plenty fast for general laptop usage (I am not a power user) with great battery life.

The best part of Apple Silicon is the efficiency, so you get amazing battery life without the heat issues the windows laptops seem to experience.

  • I only purchase 32G Mac. Not a deal for me.

      Thanks for letting us know.

    • You can get 128gb MBPs now. Sell some of your buttcoins.

    • I just bought a 128gb Mac and I like this deal.

Please do your research, based my research reason to buy:

    13/15 Air vs 14 M1 Pro vs 14 M3 Pro
M1 pro screen is very good quality compared to what's in Air, M3 Pro has 100 nits more (600) then previous version (500).
M1 pro chip is still very good and M1 pro has good GPU cores (14).
M2 had very slow storage (read/write).
M3 pro is bit better and best price is about $3150 for similar spec with M3 pro chip.
Based on tests of video publishing times within 2-3 sec for 15 min video between M1 pro / M3 pro and geek bench comparison results M1 pro is still very good device.
Compared to air, this has better screen and additional ports are helpful for little bit of extra money (well about 800ish). I went through lots of review's today and M1 pro at this price is a good buy.

    • cheers for contribution! I completely agree that 14 pro with m1 pro is superb value

at this price you can't get a miniled screen (plus 120hz refresh) in any other device

compared to airs, this has a MUCH better screen, better ports (incl. SD card slot which is great for cheap unobtrusive storage expansion, or for media import if your camera uses SD card - mine is cfexpress), better performance (higher memory bandwidth, more codecs, more GPU cores, active cooling), better speakers (speakers on mbp 14 are so good you don't really need external speakers to play music), also it's cheaper than equivalent memory and storage combination

and compared to new mbp with m2 and m3 pro, well, they are just much more expensive, for pretty increment generational performance uplift. is it worth it? m1 pro is still plenty fast.

IMO M3 (non-pro) MBP is to be avoided. reasons:

      • low cpu/RAM bandwidth (100GB/s)
      • low number of GPU cores
      • doesn't drive 2+ displays
      • has 1 less USB-C port (2)

it's a cut down even crippled version of MBP. I reckon the one I posted here gives you better bang for buck than that.. it has more GPU cores, more CPU/RAM bandwidth (200 GB/s), 3 USB-C ports, for much less.

screen is virtually the same, they just managed to squeeze 600 nits out of it in M3 model in SDR mode vs 500 nits in M1 Pro version. Other advancements in M3 version are multichannel audio via HDMI, AV1 decode hardware acceleration, Wifi 6E vs just 6, BlueTooth 5.3 instead of 5.0, and it's supposed to last a bit longer.

I reckon it's a crippled MBP, but each to their own.

      • Sorry, i gave you a wrong link, how about this: https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/macbook-pr…

        Macbook Pro 14" M2 Pro 12C CPU 19C GPU 16GB/1TB Silver for $2,997

        • I reckon it's a great price if that's your budget and target performance.

Apple Certified Refurbished has M1 pro MBP 14 version 16/1TB with weaker core configuration for $2879, making OW option awesome

but if you're just after more storage, I got MBP 14 with M1 pro just like the one I posted but with 16/1TB for $2539, still plenty of performance there, but cheaper. they haven't been in stock for a month though.

all in all, looks like a good price

          • @shabaka: yeah you're correct, i saw it around 1 week ago, 16/1tb M1 pro, almost pull the trigger, but it's gone

  • Don't neg me but if you can be patient these can be picked up on marketplace for $1500 with 100% battery. Missed one last week but secured one last night. Very happy with it. People buy these thinking they are gaming laptops, don't use them and sell them rather than trading into apple that give them 1200.

    • +1

      yes but no warranty

here you get a guarantee everything is working, and 1y warranty too. plus you can add Care+ if you want

won't be able to do so on a used unit bought from 3rd party

  • I've been spending the past week trying to justify to myself that I need this upgrade from my 2018 13inch MBP i5 8gb. So I bought a base M3 MacBook Pro to try and then return in 14 days (thinking if I was blown away I'd buy this refurb). It's blisteringly fast and the battery is insane. I streamed a whole 90 mins of football last night and only dropped 3%!!!

But…I don't need it. Instead of using it for anything productive, I've just been consuming content on the mini led screen (I never realised how similar the blacks were to an oled screen) and spending/wasting hours in Cities Skylines, overjoyed that I can finally play a nine year old game buttery smooth on a base MacBook Pro (but also low-key) gutted that it's not compatible with Cities Skylines 2.

With the gift card deal and GST return from a potential overseas trip I could get it down to around $1840 and then use $1000 eftpos gift card on that to be about $840 out of pocket…anddddd I'll probably end up doing just that (face palm)

I'm sure the above is of no relevance to anyone but thank you for making it this far XD

    TL;DR: Arghhh…sometimes I hate OzBargain

    • +1

I've been eyeing this and I also have a 2018 MBP! The refurbished base model listed in this deal is now out of stock though.

      • +1

Damn! I really thought I'd pull the trigger today. Although…after doing this whole "try then return" with Apple, I'm eyeing a Surface Studio 2 with 60 day returns from Microsoft haha

Surely that's the ultimate OzBargain way of getting through the next semester (until it gets damaged that is)!
