Kirin sold here is brewed in Australia.
taste nothing like the real Japanese Kirin.
I won't waste my money on it.

agreed, the local stuff don't taste the same as the original

The Japanese version is gold tier and the Aussie brewed stuff is utter garbage

    • Is that the green bottle "Megumi" one? Or does that apply for these yellow "Ichiban" labels too?

It's all now brewed in Aus :(
Years ago the gold label was imported but that has sadly passed.

Only Asahi cans, yebisu, and some of the smaller labels are actually Japanese brewed

Don't forget Orion is brewed in Okinawa, sold from Liquorland.
My local Asian grocery actually as a good (but very expensive) selection of jap brewed beers, Sapporo, premium malts etc.

@Reggienator: I recently discovered 'Monsuta' is also brewed by Orion in Japan and is sold at Dan's, BWS etc. Highly recommend if you're looking for a proper Japanese beer rather than the swill that gets brewed here. Tastes completely different to the Australian "Japanese" beers which I'm pretty sure all come out of the same tank.

It's a shame we can't get proper Kirin here easily, it was my favourite in Japan.

@Polt: I find Monsuta is crap by comparison to Orion's other products, namely the Orion Draught and 75 Pilsner, which are super smooth & clean.

        • I thought Asahi cans were brewed in Thailand

  • It's hard coming across good deals for beer on OzB lately, have retailers tightened their belts lately?

    • Appears that way. Even Dans is not discounting their low carb beer.
