They're just trying to shift as many as possible before the official price drop next week. Not worth it.

  • +5

    Yeah … wait for 29th

    • +1

For sure. Especially if the rumour of a 32gb version at the current 16gb price is true. Can't hurt to wait.

    • +9

You can neg if you can find cheaper than $267 for the same tab as of today…otherwise you are just abusing the voting system. you are member for 8 months with 0 post and 16 comments and most comments you made received more negs. for example…

Android can't survive after the 'new" iPad was launched. Not cheap at all.

    • $199 is the rumoured price it will go down to in the US not here. It will probably go to $250 or so maybe on Tuesday Australian time.

Its $2 cheaper than Dick Smiths price.

      • While this is a decent price the rumour is a 32gb version coming very soon at the current 16gb price. Would recommend waiting a few weeks for official news.

  • great price for a great tablet, im using mine right now. It is really hard to believe people are going to spend an extra $100 for an inferior ipad mini!

    • +19

Not hard to believe at all, Apple users are used to buying an inferior product for a premium price.

Judging computers solely on hardware specs is about as useful as judging wine just on alcohol content.

Hmm, this $30 bottle of Cloudy Bay 2012 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is only 12.5% while this $10 cask wine is 13%.

Who on earth would pay TWENTY DOLLARS MORE for the weaker wine!!!

We all work this way when we're 16 and need maximum booze-per-buck, but most of us grow out of it.

        • -1

No one is saying it's about specs

        • -1

What about the fact that for many people who have used both operating systems, Jelly Bean is way ahead of iOS?

        • Well, hate to say it, but ios tablet support is lot more better where app is concern. Google is trying to do something about it. Anyways both have their pro and cons, i hate it when ios cant drag and drop from any comp just so inconvenient.

        • +1

I completely agree with drag and drop there.
But if you look from another point of view. iTunes keeps things organise.
Sometimes I like iTunes sometimes I hate it.

But for drag and drop movie files on iOS. Just use gplayer app. Supports heaps of format.

Please let me know when they've fixed the LCD issues. I've had to get two replacements of the Nexus 7 to get something with no LCD problems!! Luckily, I didn't buy it through Google, so I could get a replacement easily. I feel sorry for the poor souls who bought it from Google - trying to get a replacement from them is like getting water from a rock!

At least with Apple, I can trust the hardware!

        • yeah, gotta love that trusty iphone 4 antenna

    • +14

Till you use both devices, there is no need to flame ipad mini. Hardware specs aren't the only key factor people would buy Ipads over Android tablets. It's the overall user experiences. Apple doesn't just sell over 100 million Ipads at your so called "Premium price" so far without a good reason. The only way that Android tablets can compete with Ipads is the (close to cost) price. I own an Android tablet and the New Ipad. The difference is obvious. Without Ipads' existence in the first place, we are still using our laptops or PCs.

      • +1

I've got a few android devices, and was still tempted to get an iPad mini due to the fact that more functional apps are available for iOS devices.

I would never consider an Apple phone, nor an Apple tablet as my primary tablet, however the Apple mini was very tempting. At $249/$299 I was sold, but $329 is just a bit of a stretch.
However it still should be a great device.

      • I agree you can't judge the mini till it's out. I own an iPad and a Nexus 7 and yes the difference is obvious, the Nexus is a far superior experience. Can't comment on other Android tablets though, I always prefer vanilla Android.

  • Also rumour will have a $99 cheap version with single core CPU.

I will wait a few more days.

  • +4

No point buying a NEXUS 7 at this stage

Before iPad mini release date (2nd Nov), the Nexus 7 will drop at least $50…

Nexus 7 16GB in USA will be $249 to $199
and 32GB will be released for $249 (in USA)

    • +1

I don't see why this deal has so many positive votes when it is almost certain that the price will drop in the next week.

I have one from the Kogan Deal - priced matched with OfficeWorks so I could claim the $25 Google Play voucher. It is an excellent tablet, but I would wait for a week.

  • +9

the ipad mini is not inferior simply due to its hardware in comparison to the nexus 7. Sure the main advantage of ios is that it is easy to learn in the same way that riding a bicycle is easy to learn with training wheels. But like riding a bicycle android is more rewarding once you learn to use it as it as far more customisable. This is on top of functions ios lacks such as the use of offline maps (or any maps really) and a system such as google now. I wake up every morning look at my nexus 7 which tells me through a drop down notification bar (that displays more info than any notification system in ios) my estimated time to travel to work/uni, the delay and where the traffic is worst. Do not for a second think the nexus 7 is just superior due to its hardware….the quad core processor, higher resolution screen, higher pixel density and $100 lower price are just an added bonus!!

    • Well said, just curious which app gives you the ETA/traffic stuff please

      • Google Maps, combined with 'Location' data - if you turn on the traffic overlay you can see where traffic is moving slowly in real time.

Google use this information, together with the averaged history, to estimate how long your usual commute will take. Google Now just uses that info.

That's one of the main kiddie advantages Android fanboys spew. Customisable? It's a device, not a action figure. I remember when people would modify Windows to resemble some other kind of OS or feel. If you have time to customise a tablet OS you should fine a more satisfying hobby.

And the lower price statement is also a bit bland, once you sell your device in 3 or 4 years time, you know you will be able to sell the iPad for 50-80 dollars more because there are Apple fanboys willing to pay that price, compare the depreciation rates between Macs and PCs or iPhones and Android phones, same thing.

Your map and notification point does seem valid though, my question is whether the masses would care.

I could spew heaps of annoying things I experience on Android: Rubbish Siri equivalent, annoying pop-ups asking me what app I want to open to perform a command, poor ease of use, buggy OS and force quits, poor UI, poor backend system, lack of price drops in Android apps.

Most programmers I know say Android is the most painful OS to develop for compared to iOS and Windows Phone. Also try dropping a nexus and an iPad at the same time and tell me which one will survive. By the way, how is Apple maps coping?

Each have there advantages, Just pick what you like and stop this flamewar rubbish, it's getting old already.

      • +2

when they say "customisable", it isn't just about skins and appearance, it's about having widgets that allow you quick access to info without needing to open an app, quick drop down bars that allow you to toggle functions, and other nifty bits and pieces.

that being said, flamewars have been tedious since they first began to appear. arguing on a company's behalf whilst they count the dollars you're making them seems a little, well, dumb to say the least.

  • Can't I thought I was going to get it cheaper pre-ordering from Google for $299 + $20 or so shipping -_______-

Oh and I brought it too.

  • It is not an app for the traffic, it is done automatically by google now which is a part of Jelly Bean android 4.1. So it automatically works out after a number of days that the place you keep going to must be your work, and then it will start to give you an ETA. All of this happens with you never even doing anything.

  • out of curiosity, what is everyone else using their nexus7 for?

    • I use mine for games on the train, and for surfing the web when I don't feel like firing up my PC

    • +4

      Buying stuff on Oz Bargain.

  • Its $267 at officeworks too. I hardly consider this a great price, especially if next week they drop down to around $200.

  • +1

not a bargain when they are $267 at DSE. this is new normal price after a $50 price drop preceding the new model

  • Rumours say that Google is going to release a new Nexus 7 (32GB version)?

  • +1

Remember to price match at Officeworks and for a further 5% price beat :)

  • "Remember to price match at Officeworks and for a further 5% price beat :)"

That's probably why at my local officeworks they are now $267 even though the website says $269. I'll get one when the 16 gb version drops to around $200. :)

    • yes, i will be happy to get one at $200 mark. i still believe it won't take too long.

Original price for 16GB model direct from Google in August was A$299, free delivery, including $25 Google Play credit. Promotion ended on 30th Sept.

$299 - $25 = $274 <= this is the price after the promotion and BEFORE Apple announced Apple Mini, plus recent Google's rumour to launch the 32GB Nexus 7 possibly with 3G support.

Now, we are almost certain the rumours will materialise, when suddenly we see HV, DS, Mwave, OW all promoting this gadget at $260-S270 range. Clearly this discount is NOT deep enough.

Cnet also reporting UK retailers are TRYING to get rid of their stock before Christmas.
      http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57539973-94/retailers-clear…

Therefore, it is no longer a bargain at $267 as of today.

Of course, if you like this 16GB gadget, nobody can stop you buying it, right?

      • What a long story you tell! :p

  • COMMENT: I have both Mac's and windows PC's, ipad1 & 2 as well as andriod mobiles and iphones; I have no allegiances to anyone but i do have opinions from daily use.

Andriod is customisable and you can default alt apps; you cant do this on ipad/iphone and thats not a bad thing. The address/contact setup on an ipad/iphone is better than andriod any day and the built in apple apps were until iOS6 awesome. iOs6 is BUGGY as HELL and the loss of google apps was a mistake IMO but the alt ones work and will get better now its in use. It would have been called BETA in the old days, now its runtime and fix as you go.

Andriod as of jellybean is awesome but it still needs massive improvment, especialy the contact and address book funtionality. iOS just does it better and ive tried alt andriod apps but for the contact info it needs a backend improvment.

The nexus for the money is awesome, the new ipadmini is basicly $100 more and does the same stuff. Its made better form all accounts and is perhaps the best tablet based on the hardware… Its a tough call but if money was the only chriteria then the Nexus would win hands down. I dont think the 32gb will be that cheap and besides on my ipad2 64gb ive only used 10gb total ever and its full of shit… I dont know 32gb is worth a 1c extra

  • If you plan on buying iPad Mini. Don't bother. This is way better. Nice price, but I'd wait till Tuesday to see what Google announce.
    -3G Nexus 7 Tablet
    -Nexus 10 Tablet (10")
    -Nexus 4 (Phone!)

I wouldn't buy an apple product even if Steve Job's took a golden dump on it. Feel sorry for iPhone 5 users. They got screwed big time. No NFC, A5X not the newer iPad's A6X. Failure

    • +2

      or $244 including psotage.

  • "I wouldn't buy an apple product even if Steve Job's took a golden dump on it."

I would if they matched android value and didn't force their customers to use itunes. Its pretty disappointing that the mini isn't closer to nexus 7 in terms of value. Hopefully android can eat away at apple marketshare some more, so their forced into being competitive.

    • Well they are……
Or else there wont be an ipad mini.

      • Their market share drop about 8% last quater.

        • their sales volume doesn't drop. it's the android devices sell more.

  • True, but you can say its in the spirit of competition and opportunity loss if they dont launch an ipad mini, its pretty much a more budget market segment. (haha, its so rare to see apple giving in to the lower end of the market.)

    • yep, it is good for consumers because of the intense competition :)
