Tiktok App Is So Annoying. It's Somewhat Like Virus Lol

I set up disable the notification too many time already but the app keeps asking me to enable it. Which is so annoying and none of other apps asking me again and again.

Also, while you scrolling, it turned to live streaming and you can't simply get of the live streaming pool unless you reflesh the app. And then, when you releshed the app, it shows the videos you have watched already.

Youtube Shorts doesn't do this stupid shit. For these two reasons, I removed Tiktok app and won't reinstall it again.

Congrats on removing the cancer from your phone.

Its not somewhat like a virus, it is exactly what a virus is, just read the terms and conditions.

Completely agree - someone released a “military grade security assessment “ of the app and identified that a std install:
      1) sends detailed gps location data back to their Chinese servers in almost real-time for no functional reason - if you disable location services, the app just keeps asking for it until it’s enabled again
      2) it has enough permissions to take over the core files of other apps (eg, embed their code in other apps without you knowing)

Source. That sounds like complete BS and isn't how apps work at all , especially on IOS.

Imagine your shock when you find out what Google or any other entity does.

Yeah, but Google's motto is Don't be evil. so they're different!

Oh, wait …. they removed that motto. Carry on

        “military grade security assessment “

You mean they gave the contract to the lowest cost contractor?

    and won't reinstall it again

    Good

  • I use TikTok. I do have its notifications enabled so I wasn't aware they don't like if you disable it. For me it is possible to leave livestreams without refreshing the app. And videos you have already seen can appear again, it's not that annoying to me. It gets pretty good at learning your habits and tastes over time. I think the quality of content is significantly worse on YT Shorts and IG Reels. I don't think TikTok is any more of a virus than other platforms which have their share of problems. I enjoy TikTok but you do you~.

      I enjoy TikTok

      Simple things…

TikTok has the best memes, Facebook and IG are an afterthought for TikTok creators.

  • +2

Now you’ve got that off your chest.

  • Good luck keeping it uninstalled!

IMO, the short video format should be avoided.

TikTok issues, like crying over spilt milk.

      That makes udder sense. Cheers

  • What is tik tok?

  • +3

Did you also delete your tiktok account as well?
Why are people so sheepish that they need to use facebook, instagram, tik tok. (I have none)
If you have spare time, go do something useful, or play a game, touch grass, research, go for a walk, clean your house, sleep etc.

    • +3

But how will they be influenced to support far-left or far-right nonsense if they don’t use social media?

    • +1

It you have a business, they are powerful tools. It's need these days to be on social media if you have a business.

Other people use social media to connect with friends and family. I do.

But it's how you use it, if you're scrolling to watch random short videos then yes it's wasting your time. But if you're chatting and sharing photos and videos on your profile, it's fine.

      (I have none)

      touch grass

You must be a gamer or on some form of social media, thats a pretty big online term.

Just wait until he finds out that the Ozbargain forums meet the definition of a social network…

      • Or a parent.

I have TikTok. I also have Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, Discord, YouTube, Twitch, Pinterest, Goodreads Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, and more. I also pay for Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, Spotify, and Patreon.

I also do all the stuff you said; useful stuff, play games, touch grass, research, go for a walk, clean my house, sleep, and a whole lot more.

Tiktok actually has plenty of content that
      * motivates you to go for a walk. Gymtok is also huge.
      * cleantok motivates you to clean.
      * has plenty of educational and productivity creators if you're researching or want to do something useful
      * going to the hills at night for stargazing has seen a recent surge due a recent tiktok trend so people are touching grass through it. the afl and nrl which are aussie sports on grass have gained more international following thanks to tiktok.
      * sleep - tiktok has breathing exercises, asmr and plenty of content to help you sleep
      * gaming - has an entire platform dedicated to its streaming called twitch

but sure we're the sheepish ones and you're so special one because you don't use any of this. I don't have a problem with you not using any of this, that's cool and there's plenty of content about detoxing from all this, there's minimalism and declutter advocacy happening on tiktok too. what I don't like is you judging others and assuming they're less active and productive and all

    "Senator, I am Singaporean"….

Was just watching the video on TikTok CEO being grilled by Tom Cotton. It was absolutely hilarious.

    • -2

The senator missed the entire point IMO.

The CEO doesn't have to be chinese to be in bed with the CCP.

      • Any one of those Americans sitting on the stand can be a CCP associate. But no one is gonna admit to it. So what is the point of asking the question. Only make US politicians look bad.

And if someone says he has a Singapore passport, that implies he doesnt have dual citizenship (you can in secret but that is a criminal offence so no one will also admit to it). Sen Cotton could have done more research. By the way, he is from Harvard.

        • +1

Sen Cotton could have done more research

he's a senator, it's almost in their DNA to not do any research

Any one of those Americans sitting on the stand can be a CCP associate

Of course. They're deflecting as if "if you are with the CCP you are bad, and we are good" as if the US isn't a crap show of corruption, especially their politicians.

          • @coffeeinmyveins: I absolutely dont disagree with your statement.

          • @coffeeinmyveins: Manchurian Candidate.

            • @Montyjpm: Coffeeinmyveins isn’t wrong. The point is both sides aren’t great. Personally I wouldn’t want to be living in either country. The GOP are seriously scary people and they really don’t believe in democracy and freedom. Someone isn’t a Manchurian Candidate for pointing this out.

Those hearings are like watching a wasp on a cactus. The American based social media sites aren’t much better.

              • @try2bhelpful:

The American based social media sites aren’t much better.

Mark Zuckerberg got it much worse than Chew. Mark was pressured into apologising to the victims' family on camera, which is a really decent gesture but it make it look like Meta is taking responsibility for the child suicides.

                • +1

@KaTst3R: The child exploitation is horrific but it is just part of the issue. There is a lot of extreme violence and generally abusive material that is up on these services and it takes hours for a lot of it to be removed. Mass murders being live streamed. A guy posting images of him carrying his father’s severed head. The deep fakes of disgusting made up images of Taylor Swift. The social media sites talk about their AI “algorithms” by they don’t seem to be worth much. You look at the conversations that take place with the children and it can’t be that hard to spot it.

I wonder how the senators going on about child exploitation would react if their parish priest was suspected of molesting children. I suspect there would be a lot of denial and victim blaming before even suspecting the accusations might be true. The joke is if any secular group had the background of the churches they would be shutdown and the leaders in jail.

Me, I’m a big one for allowing consenting adults their own life and hunting down and exposing those who are being abusive. I don’t like holier than thou hypocrites who talk about the sanctity of marriage and protecting the family then are found out for having an affair.

I don’t know if TikTok has child exploitation material on it but if the person is in China, and the CCP gets hold of them, then apologising to victims would be the least of their problems.

        • For enough money I'd associate with the CCP. I wouldn't sell state secrets or anyone's info, but I dunno would hold the red flag or whatever, why not.

          • @AustriaBargain: Would you work for Sky News, or do you have some level you won’t go below? :).

            • +1

@try2bhelpful: Oh no, I could never do that. If someone saw that I was associating with Sky News that could really ruin your reputation.

  • +1

TikTok should just not be in the App Store at all.
If you have it on your phone, delete it

    • +1

Yeah, but really ByteDance should sell TikTok to Apple or something for 100 billion dollars before it comes to the US and Australia banning it from the App Store.

    • +1

Delete all the other social media apps at the same time.

      • I use Facebook app somewhat like gumtree no notifications at all for years.

  • +1

I'm all about TikTok for upskilling. TikTok's got some real gems for learning new tricks/tips and staying updated on softwares I use at work (1 hour on public transport and I know more than my colleagues). Plus, as adults, we've got the self-control to use it wisely without spending hours on end. It's like a quick knowledge boost whenever I need it!

    • +1

Welcome to youtube 10 years ago.

    • Learning? On TikTok… hmmm, you must be in the entertainment industry.

    • Many tik toks that are shared with me are inaccurate or designed for views. Maybe I need to use the platform to see actual value.

Facebook shorts is basically a guide on how to kill or seriously injure yourself - "Here's a power tool hack or got a microwave transformer"

      • Thankfully, almost nobody in my circle sends Tiktoks videos.

  • +2

While you're there uninstall instagram, x, facebook, etc.

    • only tiktok is the Issue

  • …and ANOTHER one.
