Description from Vornado AU:

Born of Vornado’s Whole Room Air Circulator heritage, the 660 represents the next generation of Vornado circulation. Immediately noticeable is the restyled exterior that features dramatic gloss and matte finishes, sleek lines, and a slightly smaller footprint than Vornado’s full-size circulators. Its size makes it ideal for a master bedroom and large entertainment area.

The 660 fluidly tilts between horizontal and vertical airflow positions along a chrome glide. The 660 further raises the bar with its intuitive push-button controls. Located conveniently at the top of the product, the user can effortlessly select among four speed settings ranging from whisper-quiet to turbo top effectively moving air up to 30.5 square metres. Maintaining the 660 is simple with a detachable grill that provides easy access to the blades for cleaning. The 660 features a 5 Year Replacement Warranty and is supported by an industry-leading consumer service team.

Unlike typical fans, a Vornado creates whole-room circulation using an airflow phenomenon called “Vortex Action.” An inlet guide cone directs air to the most efficient portion of the blades. In turn, the wide, heavily contoured blades churn the air into motion. The air then travels through a duct which sculpts the air into a column shape. As the air exits the Air Circulator, Vornado’s AirTensity™ Grill straightens the airflow to ensure the air travels long distances. The airflow column will spin and twirl to the opposite corner hitting the wall where it will split off and recirculate to the centre of the room.

Interesting… it was $20 cheaper from Costco two weeks ago:

I bought this and then returned it in favour of the 630DC version. I found the 660 too loud even at low settings, and most of the time I’m running the 630DC on a low-moderate setting that’s mostly inaudible

Good for the hot weather this weekend.

Return it after the weekend. Good idea.

  • Can an air circulator create whole room breeze similar to a ceiling fan? Kids room is 3x3m and have a bunk bed, so can't turn on the ceiling fan.

    • this one here will work great in a 3x3m room. Maybe a bit loud on the highest 2 settings though

      • Thanks! I'll consider getting this one or the DC633.

    • Well, yes you could but that is not its design purpose. It is not really like a normal fan. The Vornados send a narrow beam of air a long distance. The idea is to move cooler air maybe from an air conditioned living area down a corridor to another room, like a non air conditioned bedroom.

My partner lives in a unit with that exact scenario and her 533DC really does improve the other room.

A typical fan will have a much wider beam and often have oscillating action as well. It would be used to create a breeze within the room.

There are many comments about the benefits of the DC motor models. Less noisy and 99 speeds vs 4 for this model. Also, if the non DC models have touch buttons …. no good for running off a smart plug. I would prefer to pay the extra for a DC motor version (DC in the product name).

The (71)633DC is on clearance at Good Guys Commercial for $182 . Maybe delivery only. Vornado Australia show it as out of stock. A new model coming?

      • I got the 633DC from GGC click and collect last week, so might you still find some stores with stock. Delivery is pretty reasonable too.

As for the fan, super happy with it. I use it for the exact scenario of blowing air from an air-conditioned living room down a short hallway into my office. Quiet enough on low that I don't notice its even running except for the fact that the room is much more comfortable. Very glad I got the DC.

On high it's loud, but also moves a ton of air.

  • is there a big difference between models?

I just got one and absolutely love it. in a 2.5x3 area, can drop the temp from 30-25 on 3/4 power. I thought the AC was on. Why do people say it's loud? I mean.. it's as loud as a domestic fan gets. I think it caps at 55db or something (normal speech is 60-65).

    • can drop the temp from 30-25 on 3/4 power

Do you mean the 'feels like temp or are you moving air from another location?

      • started at 30°C… was at 26°C when i checked about 45 minutes later..
another 30 minutes later it was at 25°C
This was from 1230pm to about 2pm, umm.. tuesday last week

        • Where was that heat going then? These circulate air, they dont remove heat from an area. My understanding was people use these to direct air from one place to another, cooler room to a warmer one or vice versa.

            2. Didn't matter to me as long as it worked.
