Loewe We Hear 1 360 Degree IPX6 Bluetooth Speaker $99 Shipped (Storm Grey and Coral Red) @ Audio Trends

170

website says free standard shipping Australia wide for over $50 spend (look under shipping costs in the link). https://www.audiotrends.com.au/terms-of-use
other local stores also reduced their prices to $129 ~ $139 and most with additional shipping costs. original price seems to be $199 which I have seen at Rio Sound & vision before.
also fyi saw these Loewe Hear 1 & 2 speakers showing on the The Good Guys page as "Coming soon" so you might be able to snag a better deal if you wait around and they are on sale at a bigger store (TGG = JB HiFi).

seems to be very similar design to the UE Boom 3 but slightly larger at 22 x 9 x 9cm compared to 18.4 x 7.3 x 7.3cm. other than that claimed specs are very similar.
14 hours battery life (Boom 3 claims 15 hours ** Actual battery life will vary with use, settings, and environmental conditions.)
2x drivers facing opposite directions + 2 passive radiators.
7.4V 2000mAh battery in the We Hear 1 is equivalent to 4000mAh @ 3.7V if you want to compare it to most other mAh specs out there.
output claims are 2x 10w RMS (20w RMS) and 40w peak. can't find any watts info on Boom 3.
a difference is other stores list We Hear 1 included accessories as USB-C cable and 3.5mm cable. so it should have a USB-C port and Aux input compared to UE Boom 3's microUSB and doesn't have Aux input.
Boom 3 is also IP67 so dust protected and can be submerged. We Hear 1 is IPX6 so not dust protected and only survives strong jets from 3m for 15 mins. personally it never really mattered to me because I am never in a situation where the speaker could be submerged in water.

Boom 3 seemed very popular at $98 as you can see here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/ultimate-ears-boom-3
maybe you are happy to try a similar alternative for the same price. just my experience with UE in general, but they have very aggressive DSP which cuts the bass quickly (from like 40% volume level) and allows them to get very loud at max volume. the DSP in most other speakers (including I think this Loewe Hear 1) usually keep more bass at higher volume but don't get ultimately as extremely loud as a UE speaker.

there is a We Hear 2 which is a step up in size again and slightly larger than Megaboom, but no deals on that model at the moment that I can see.

plenty of positive reviews on Amazon.de where it sells for 86 euros ($142AUD and you can translate reviews to english). https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Outdoor-Bluetooth-Resistant-Porta…
one
also 99 pounds ($191AUD) on Amazon.co.uk and I can't find it on Amazon US so I am guessing Loewe is some kind of Euro brand.
TLDR: 4.5 stars overall. one 3 star review mentions it is "well tuned" and they can hear vocals clearly unlike JBL where you hear "none of the vocals". sounds like similar tuning to Boom 3 to me (usually described as clearer but also lighter in bass compared to JBL).

I had never heard of Audiotrends but seems like plenty of deals posted before with 20 to 100 upvotes here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/audiotrends.com.au

  • If you read the description in the link it’s total gobbledygook. I started reading, hoping to find out about the product, but the description is abysmal.

hey yeah I also tried to look up some extra specs (driver size/charging port) and the official Loewe site (is broken) gets stuck on a spinning wheel won't even load for me lol..

it's a bit tricky to find, but on the rio (a different store) page there is always a "specification" tab which you have to click to reveal more info.

so here I copy pasted it.

Colour Aqua Blue, Coral Red, Storm Grey
      Battery type 7,4V / 2000mAh
      Charging current 5V / 2A
      Playing time 12 – 14h
      Charging time 2 – 3h
Audio output power 2x 10 W RMS, corresponds to 40 W total music power
      Water protection IPX6
      Bluetooth Bluetooth version: V5.0
      Bluetooth power/frequency range: Maximum power <10 mW at 2402 – 2480 MHz
      Bluetooth protocols: A2DP, AVRCP
      Device dimensions (W x H x D) 90 x 220 x 83 mm
      Device weight 0.74 kg

if it means anything multiple other pages list the included items in box as "USB-C cable and 3.5mm cable" so I assume it has a USB-C port and Aux input.
example at the bottom here: https://klappav.com.au/products/we-hear-1-portable-bluetooth…

I tried to check Boom 3 BT version but even Rtings shows it as "Unspecified". I assume it's 5.0 like the We Hear.
