      • I am looking now and it says 200k

        • Strange, I am still seeing 275k now.

      • Looks like default is back to 200k. Suspect it is based on a few factors. my one still offers 275k

    • Took me a long while 60+ but I think it is just random. I got Kate 275K I copied the link to my phone from the PC and it was the same.

      • Was the last name Winslet?

  • I have the platinum reserve does anyone know how many points I get if I refer someone

  • How soon can I apply for this after home loan application is settled? I know it's charge card but I don't want to get a credit hit and rejection

  • Quite a package!

Is it just me but the sheer number of merchants rejecting Amex is stunning!
Not only private merchants even some govt payments reject Amex.

After 40 odd years of dealing with several and former card systems I could in an emergency process Amex but to cover my cost I would have to surcharge around 10x as much as on the 2 others.

    • +1

I reckon more than 90% places I want to use my card takes AMEX. For everything else, there's Mastercard 😆

      • It is the 30% of essential things that makes it a pain!

  • If I have an Amex Business charge card (American Express Qantas Business Rewards Charge Card) open around 6 months ago. Would I be eligible for this under my personal name?

  • Cool trick OP

  • I have a green corporate charge card, would I be eligible?

    • Hi mate, most likely you would be as it is the company/ employer provided card but can confirm on 1800 673 760 amex call number

  • If your accor plus membership is renewed just before you cancel the card, your accor plus membership will remain active until the next membership renewal

How do you make the most of this?

    • +4

Let say you have no Accor plus membership prior getting the Amex platinum charge
And you have received the new card today (5th Feb 2024), which your card renewal date will be 5th Feb 2025

Once you have received your platinum charge, immediately apply for the Accor plus membership (using the AMEX my benefit page)
It may a few days for Accor plus membership to be created and activated, eg. your accor plus membership opened on the 11th Feb 2024, and accor plus annual renewal is 11th Feb 2025

When you are approaching to your platinum charge renewal 5th Feb 2025, do not cancel your card before the renewal date, just let it pass until 10th Feb 2025 where it will renew your Accor plus membership (Sometimes accor plus renewal will come even earlier than the annual renewal date, so it can be before 10th Feb 2025)

After you confirm your accor plus membership is renewed (you can login via the ALL app or accor website), then you can call AMEX to cancel the platinum charge card
You have up to 30days post the platinum charge renewal date to cancel the card, and get the annual fee refunded (Given that you have not used the $450 travel credit)

The outcome is, your platinum charge is cancelled but you still have another year of Accor plus membership (with the complimentary hotel night)

      • Oh right the 30days thingy is what I missed. Thanks!

  • access to the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts program, which provides complimentary benefits at over 1,300 five-star properties worldwide valued at an average of $800 for a two-night stay

$800 worth of benefits for a two night stay?

    • +2

if you see the costs of the places that are included in fine hotels and resorts program…. the upgrade of a room is a few hundred over two nights and then they usually throw in $100USD for spend at the hotel/resort.

      • Makes sense. Looks like they value breakfast at USD60 pp as well.

        • yeah, and not sure how they work out their average of $800 but i suspect the people using this are booking very expensive rooms haha

      • That's if you get the room upgrade though. It really depends on the hotel occupancy rates during your stay.

  • have a feeling this will be the best signup offer going forward.

  • Cant seem to get a 275k referral :(

    Edit: NVM got it

  • if you get rejected by amex, how long until you can try again?

    • Not financial advice, although usually people seem to be okay after waiting 3+ months.

  • Can I ask if I can use these points to fully pay off a flight ticket from syd to tokyo?
And if possible would anyone know how many points this would approx cost?

    • +3

      sample trip
      https://ibb.co/x5h1NNV

Econ ticket return (Sydney to Tokyo) with Qantas classic rewards ticket cost 63000 QFF points + tax (this example tax is $326, it will be lower if you can find a direct flight instead)

The Amex platinum charge welcome bonus has 275000 rewards points, converted to 137500 qantas points
So this reward points is enough for 2 x econ return classic rewards tickets

      • Excellent, thank you for the detailed response!
        Really appreciate it :)

  • Just trying to understand. From a pure points perspective if you convert to Qantas, what would be the benefit for this card over the Amex Qantas one with 120k points?

    • $400 dining credit ($200 in Oz + $200 overseas)
Priority Pass Lounge access apart from AMEX or Qantas
Choice to convert member reward points to airlines other than Qantas
Travel credit not only limited to Qantas related travel

      • Ah right. So basically for the extra $1k fee it's more for flexibility + some dining/accom perks.

        • The 275k points cover the fee. So it's not $1k extra fee.

          • @ShouldIBuyIt: But it is a $1k extra fee over the Qantas Amex which is $450?

            • @Subrising: You get $450 back on the Qantas amex I believe. So it costs $0
This the points are worth at least $1450, so it cancels out the fee. Costs $0

              • @ShouldIBuyIt: Not sure if that comparison works and can say costs $0 if you're comparing points to points only.

120k Qantas points $450 fee vs 137500 Qantas points $1450 fee. It's not a $0 difference regardless of how much you value the extras as it's a straight extra $1k out of your pocket.

Like I mentioned above the main point of difference then is if you really value the flexibility + the dining/accom perks.

                • @Subrising: If you're planning to convert to Qantas, then you're correct, ,may as well go for the 120k + 20k bonus option

  • Can confirm, can help with details

  • Got 3x80000 in the last three weeks… Thanks to Ozbargainers (who got 275000 each).

    • -1

I got 10 clicks but no points, oh well ..

      • -1

30 clicks… It's possible that some people are still working on the minimum spending…

        • 30 clicks and you only got 3 referrals ?

Damn, those are hard stats 😂

          • @Nom: Exactly… I guess people are just curious, then give up before completing the steps… Statistically, based uniquely on my numbers, it seems that only 10% of people compete the application after clicking my link…

        • The referral bonus of 80,000 points comes through when their cards are approved - we don't have to wait for them to meet their minimum spend.

      • 41 clicks no points yet

    • 50 clicks and zero referrals (for now)

  • How high is the rejection rate for this card?

  • I know they have run a discounted annual fee for professionals but does anyone here know if you can sign up for this version without being apart of the association? It lets me get to the application screen following this link (lowered SUB but irrelevant as I am an existing card holder). LINK: https://www.cpaaustralia.com.au/member-services/member-benef…

  • Gone through 4 cards in the last year so a decent amount but not super churner and was approved in 60 seconds. My last Amex as 19 months ago so just qualified time wise.

  • I hope they add some more lifestyle benefits in the future. Some of the things they get in the USA would be useful, like Uber cash.
They do the Walmart credit, so they could partner with Coles/Woolworths. (probably unlikely).
Also my Mrs would love one of the Platinum x Kehinde Wiley art cards. I asked chat if we are getting them in Aus, but got a "idk" response from the person. oh well.

  • did most get results immediately? mine appears to have gone to review, did many need to wait long for approval/decline?

    • Mine was basically automatic when I used my wife's link - didn't need to submit any documents either, which I found a bit odd.

  • How long does Accor Plus take to get activated? It's been a week since 'enrolling' and it's still pending. TIA!

    • About 10 business days for me. The others were around the same.
Except for Radisson, about 2 months of fails. I ended up making an account myself, then giving chat the number. Once I did that, it took about 5 business days.
I imagine if your having trouble that might be the way to go. Amex customer chat is hands down the best interactions I've ever had in any customer service environment.

  • Can we use this charge card to pay off an outstanding balance on another credit card? Apologies if this is a dumb question!

    • I doubt your other credit card would accept it. Otherwise no one would ever pay interest

    • No.

  • I have a doggo with me, can someone advise any pet friendly hotels that can be booked with this card :(

    • Doesn't this card come with a concierge service?

  • Has anybody been able to save the amazon prime benefit to their card? Every time I click it it asks for a login then after logging in I don't see it and then it just keeps looping every time I try.

Or does my account need to be open for a certain amount of time? do I need to get and pay my annual fee first?

    • I had the same issue. Apparently you have to call to get this activated. I called and now I can see it in saved offers. Definitely don't pay the fee first. And nothing to do with the age of the account as I got it saved on the second day after I called.

      • Well I ended up doing a webchat to ask, they said I would have to wait 14 days for those features to activate but then the next day they started working, I have only had it for a few days so not sure what the take away is. Maybe if you contact them they can activate it otherwise wait 14 days?

  • +1

has anyone got 275k recently? I'v tried 10 times with 200k only.

    • -1

Make sure you're using the right referral link - click on "Platinum Card 275,000 points referee offer" in the referral links section above.

Best to copy and paste it into an incognito window too if it's not properly showing up for you.

  • +2

Can confirm this is still going - 275,000 bonus points when using the right referral code.

  • Applied with Referral from Matthew.

  • With the currency conversion fee being 3% do people use this card overseas and eat the fee? Or is there ways to avoid it?

    • do people use this card overseas and eat the fee?

Absolutely not, use a card with no international fees for international purchases.

    • No! You only use this card overseas to have dinner at one of the restaurants listed to get $200 back. That's it.

  • Has anyone been successful in receiving the 275k bonus if they were an existing additional card holder only?

    • Additional card holder doesn’t count towards the 18months rules, so it should be eligible

Note that you still need to meet the min spend of $5000 to receive the bonus (usually in the next statement after the spent is met)

    • Yep, applied on my wife's link and was previously a supp - bonus points creditted.

  • Are the Priority Pass membership benefits from AMEX comparable to the membership benefits that comes with Citi Prestige Card? Citi’s Membership gets you 36$ food credit per member and per additional guest (72$ total) at many listed Airport eateries. Is it same with AMEX’s

    • No, AMEX platinum charge priority pass is a "cut down" version which only give lounge access, but no food credit like the full version (eg. Citi prestige)

However, AMEX platinum charge does give an additional priority pass membership
so 2 memberships rather than only 1 membership from prestige
both AMEX platinum and Prestige priority pass can also have unlimited lounge access and bring one guest

      • Thanks

      • So essentially you can bring in 4 people?

        • yes, using AMEX platinum charge priority pass you can bring up to 4 people (given you and another person bring their own priority pass card)

  • I just tested it and can confirm as far as I can tell, any transaction at Australia Post only gives you 1 point per dollar. Bummer.

    • westpac cards are not even giving any points for Australia Post spending
I guess 1 point is better than nothing :(

      • I had a whole plan to get the auspost everyday prepaid mastercard which you can load $15000 onto then go instore load with the amex hopefully get full points and pay my government bills with no cards fees.

        • I just tried anyway and the auspost system won't let you pay for it with an amex anyway. It was a good dream I guess.

  • Anyone know if the 275k points is still active?

    • When I click on a link it still says

"Apply through this page and you can earn 275,000 Bonus Membership Rewards® points (usually 200,000) when you’re approved and spend $5,000 on eligible purchases within the first 3 months. This is a personalised offer which may be withdrawn or changed at any time. T&Cs apply. New Card Members only."

      so yes.

      • +1

That's interesting, direct link does offer 275k points.
While OP link (with random referral ) only offers 200k

        • Funny that link tells me 200k.

"Receive 200,000 Bonus Membership Rewards® Points
when you apply online by 9 April 2024, are approved, and spend $5,000 on eligible purchases on your new Card within the first 3 months. T&Cs apply. New American Express Card Members only1. "

    • Just tried on the random referral link and I still get 275k offer
It is pretty random to show the 275k offer, so try browser incognito or using VPN

      • For referrers:
"The amount of Membership Rewards Points you may receive under the 'Refer a Friend' program is capped at 200,000 points per year." (T&C)

        However, I got 80k x 3, plus 60k, a total of 300k in Jan/Feb. Not complaining.

I'm not sure I will still get points this year, but happy to refer for 275k for those who struggle to get the link.

    • Still active! I just got it

  • Hi, I am an existing Amex member so cannot get the bonus 275k bonus points. How do I get a friends referral rewards points, which I understand both referee and referred get and how much are they for the Platinum card

    • +1

Depends on what Amex card you own. You can only refer your friends to apply Platinum charge card if your own card is earning MR points. The amount of referral points is shown in your “Refer a Friend” page in your Amex app. How much points your friends get will depends on the points showing in the page they apply the card, at the moment platinum charge is giving 200k bonus to new applicant but some may get 275k by random.

  • Can confirm 275k still running!

Just signed up and already approved with a referral code from a friend

Did take a few goes to get 275k offer rather than 200k but well worth the effort!

Happy to share ref if needed

    • How long did it take you to get approved?

  • Has anyone in Perth applied for this recently? How long does it take for the card to arrive?

  • Arrived within 2 business days in Sydney - though one thing to keep in mind is your initial spend amount may not be as big.

    • Physical card arrives that fast?

  • eventually found a 275k referral, VPN set to Adelaide (unsuccessful Sydney and Perth) and incognito. Took many attempts but eventually found one.

Wife instantly approved on $65k salary after me being rejected on $150k for churning too much.

    • When do you know if you get rejected? Still waiting on my application after two days.
