      • my wife was approved instantly with low salary and no need for any documents to be provided. she also received an email with confirmation of approval a few hours later around 9pm.

I was rejected via a letter in the mail a week or so after.

        • Probably happened to me if they said we’ll get back to you.

    • What is churning too much?

I had one CC closed in Jun 2023 and no other CC since then.

      • that shouldn't be considered churning

        • Thanks! How soon can you start using this card after approval?

          • @FatTofu: As soon as you receive it in the mail

  • I applied on 8th and didn't get instant approval. Called them today and said it's rejected.
I did churn every 3 months and I put my new home loan amount on card application.
Oh well I'll just find a different card then. I don't want to spend money buying furniture without getting card bonus

    • Yeah just found out got rejected on the same day with no chance to request a manual review. Geez their tough these days. Amex used to be so easy to get approval back in the days.

      • I applied for ING orange with $200 cashback on 8th as well and it's approved yesterday. Today I also applied for anz platinum for $300 cashback (homeloan is with anz) after I found out amex is rejected.
Was so eager with amex as I wanted to use the points to get mum a business class ticket to stay with me.

        • Yes was eager with Amex as well. Sucks that it’s 90 days before you can reapply again.

          • @nightelves: I applied for bank of melbourne amplify platinum 10 minutes ago and got instant approved.
At least I'm getting cashback for all the upcoming furniture & appliance purchase. Credit score might be low for a while haha.

            • @RTY: I’ve applied for the Signature. Waiting for approval for that. The cashback is pretty good with BoM.

              • @nightelves: My anz credit card just got approved as well. Now that anz home loan credit account and anz credit card credit check are both showing on my credit score, it's actually highest score in my life. No idea why amex rejected me unless they just think my salary is too low.

                • @RTY: Probably because Amex doesn’t like churners from what people have said.

                  • @nightelves: Not really, i had 3 CCs and Amex still instantly approved my application without asking for docs.

                    • @hawkeye93: how long ago did you close them all?

                      • @n0mad: 3 existing CCs, not closed yet.

                        • @hawkeye93: That's not churning though. When I called to query why I was rejected the guys asked if I had open and closed many credit cards recently.

                          • @n0mad: So they told you on the webpage that you were rejected immediately after submission?

                            • @FatTofu: no they sent me a letter via snail mail about 1-2 weeks

                    • @hawkeye93: I’ve had 8 since July till now.

  • Did anyone got more than 275K. I heard in the past 325K. Anyone got it? And if so how?

  • +1

I wasn't sure but I just confirmed that the annual fee counts towards the $5000 spend to get the bonus. I have spent less than $6450 and have received the bonus.

    • my first months closing balance including annual fee is $5,400. Haven't received bonus points yet.

  • has anyone used Sniip to pay for your ATO taxes and mortgages?

    • If you are running a business you can pay with Amex through business portal. Not sure about personal tax and mortgages.

Instant approval for wife, rejection for me LOL. Thanks op.

  • Hi

Question if you are thinking on keeping the card for 12 months and when you should activate offers such as Amazon Prime, Hiltons/Marriot Gold Status etc ?

If you activate the offer say after 6 months after receiving the card, would the offer then last 12 months from activation (i.e. 18 months from when you got the card) ? If so, would you lose Hiltons/Marriot Gold as soon as you cancel the card ? Thanks in advance

    • Amazon Prime:
Amazon Prime can be paid annually, so let say you pay your prime subscription 6 months after card activation, your prime membership will still last another 6 months (if you cancel the card before AMEX card renewal)

      Accor plus:
your 12 months membership is counted from date of Accor plus activation, so it will still last after you cancel the card till Accor plus expires (basically AMEX is just helping you to pay the annual membership)

      Hotel status (Hilton / Marriot):
I am not sure for hotel status, but usually hotel status are counted based on Calendar year, so its likely that the status will still last until 1st Jan of next year

      Priority Pass:
Priority Pass is bind to your AMEX card status, so you immediate lost priority pass status once you cancel the AMEX card

      • Thanks @littlesoldier, as you can gather I am ensuring I am not activating offers too early and the make best use of them even after the 12 months of having the card.

If you have used the referral link on this post - other than calling them, anyway of checking you have activated the 275k offer ?

        Regards

        • you will see the welcome bonus points prompt when you click through the link
unfortunately thats the only way to see whether its a 275k offer (or 150k standard one)

  • Would anyone know the answer to this:

For the bonus 275k points - the T&Cs state you cannot have held an AMEX card for 18 months. Does that apply if you have been an additional cardholder only?

    • no, just holding an additional card does not affect getting the welcome bonus

      • Can confirm the above, I was a supp card on my wife's account before applying for my own and received the 275k.

  • Do AMEX asked for pay slip copies as proof? If yes, how many months did they need? Thanks.

    • +1

      didnt ask for my payslip.

u probably need to send in a ecg with an asystole once u receive your first bill.

    • +1

No proof required for my wife, instant approval

  • Used a 275k referral link from this post - thank you (whoever it may be!) and hope you get your referral points.

Out of interest, how is this referral link obtained as I only see 150k as a referral on the account just opened ? Is it based on tenure with Amex and spend to date ?

  • Hi, just wondering how much does the referee get for this card? Checkign to see if its worth asking around one of my friends for it

Also does anyone know if i have an amex corporate charge card, do i still qualify for the points?

    • Seems to vary, 80k atm.
