Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps Subscription Deal via Lebanon - Change in Price

Has anyone had their subscription from this dea change in price after Adobe determined their primary country of usage was actually Australia not Lebanon?

Just received an email saying they determined my primary country of usage was Australia not Lebanon and they want to change my price to the Australian subscription price. Not sure how they determined my primary country of usage unless they're recording my IP address or other geographical information at usage.

Wonder what this means for this Geopricing loophole with Adobe.

Change your address to Bankstown, then you should be ok.

      Can confirm Lakemba works too…

      • But his name is George Not Jakdul.

      • outdated info, northern lakemba is predominantly bangladeshi now. southern lakemba is more multi ethnic but definitely not lebanese dominated either anymore.

        • haven't been there for a while…

  • +2

    Yeah…. I just got this too… Sucks!

    • I also did the non student one, and I haven't had a notice on that 1 yet…. It was more expensive, but still WAY cheaper than AU pricing…

      • I had the non-student one too so maybe it's random checks

  • Not sure how they determined my primary country of usage

They're recording your IP address and estimating your location based on this. Example - https://whatismyipaddress.com/ will show your estimated location.

    • I suspected as much. I wonder if this means, every time we use it, we should use it via a VPN and it might delay the loophole closing…

      • +1

we should use it via a VPN and it might delay the loophole closing…

        Too late now

Very obvious if an account is jumping countries on login or during usage and this is one of the primary checks for authentication

VPN's also have limited IP address ranges and it's very easy to see multiple users using identical IP's - just ask the OzBargain mods

You won't give me access to the AI features either.

That would not be good if you work for Channel Nine…

No one needed that a year ago. If you are doing stuff to make money, then pay for it, my suggestion was for hobby/home use.

        • Full price is like $80 a month. If I can save $800 a year, $8,000 every ten years, then I will. I've got friends with unused student email addresses to use though, brings it down to like $24 a month at least.

          • @AustriaBargain: if you just want Photoshop and Lightroom, it's only $15 a month. I wish they had a genuine way of having these two at student discount then I would just pay it

            • +1

@slipperypete: Nah I need AE, IL, and ID too. I've had Adobe pretty deep up my ass for a long time now.

              • @AustriaBargain: Sounds painful. I really only need PS so I may go for the smaller package. Still scamilly expensive but better then the whole package

    • Yep

Not sure how they determined my primary country of usage

They identified you at one of the protests using their new AI systems.

  • Mine is LL 534,720/yr, though I signed up for this price: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/783297

    • i am still running my turkey sub - havent got notice yet. I really only use adobe acrobat every day though. Photoshop maybe a handful of times during the year.

      • +1

        my turkey sub
        maybe a handful

        Yum…

  • Following. No such email here, though I'm only using Acrobat pro

  • Just got this email - subbed via turkey / student only for a couple months. Been on holidays different part of Aus so not sure if that’s why.

At least given option to cancel from the 12mth sub which I may do. Unsure what would happen if I logged in and switched to yearly up front now before the updated price

  • Yeah, just got the same email. Charging "AUD 259.9 plus 10.0% tax /annually" in 30 days time.

I had such a hard time getting Lightroom to work consistently on the high seas with my M1 Mac it was quite refreshing to use it 'legitimately', but not sure it's worth $286/year.

    • maybe just get PS and LR for $15 a month?
      This is what I'm thinking

      • +1

Yeah, considering it. But only $7 more for Acrobat, Premiere, After Effects, etc. I've planned to do more video editing, but just never get the time…

        • yeah, I see your point. The 15 was no student discount, for a little more it's worth it for you

  • +1

Got same email. Not worth it for me at full price for the rare use. Preparing to set sail…

  • Got the same email. Back to m0nkrus for my extremely limited usage

    • never even heard of this. would you still be able to use AI with photoshop or is it just a cracked version that works with everything except AI?

  • +1

    Just got the email.

The price of Creative Cloud All Apps (100Gb) will change from LBP 891240 /annually to AUD 872.64 plus 10.0% tax /annually. For your annual, prepaid plan, as your plan is migrated to Australia, you will receive a pro rata refund for the original annual, prepaid plan in Lebanon.

Went to cancel my plan. Can someone confirm that this means, if I cancel today I will lose all the apps today or after June 25.

When you cancel, you lose access to…
    Your favorite creative apps:
139 days remaining on your subscription. After Jun 25, 2024, you'll lose access to premium apps and services

    • seems to still leave you access. I just cancelled.

    • I cancelled today and have access until June 23.

But, I'm now wondering if the plan is active whether they will 'migrate' the plan for the remainder of the term.

I'm trying to remove my credit card from my account but live chat there are technical issues at the moment.

  • Just go the email too.

We hope you are enjoying Creative Cloud All Apps (100Gb) [Student and Teacher Edition]. We want to share an important update about your subscription price. You purchased your subscription using Lebanon as your purchase country. However, your subscription has been used predominantly in Australia. In order for you to continue to use your subscription, you will have to subscribe at the current price for Australia.

  • +1

Yup, just got my email too. I have been seeing a bunch of stuff about Adobe not letting you delete your card which still seems to be the case but after I've cancelled it seems that information is now gone which is nice. Luckily too, if they try anything I used a burner card which only has $10 on it max.

    • Did it say you'll get refunded the original $8 or whatever it was after you cancelled? or is the only option of getting that back is to wait for them to refund it when they change us over to the $259 then we have to cancel the $259 for a refund on that as well?

      • Nothing on the refund front unfortunately.

    • Tried to add a second card, my Oldubil virtual card from the old Turkey Spotify deal, but it wouldn't let me. County/Region is locked to Lebanon and greyed out, can't change it.

  • +3

Got my email unfortunately. Enjoyed having Adobe Acrobat most of all I think, makes forms so easy.

    • Agreed, the high seas version for Acrobat never quite worked for me.

The Adobe Scan app was just the bees knees too

  • Adobe's loss, guess I'll cancel my sub now and download the "free" versions.

  • They can take their LBP 356400 /annually! I only used PS and Audition so it's really entirely their loss.

  • +1

Got the email, bugger.. Mainly just use Acrobat, if their pricing is more reasonable would have paid Aus price for it. Cancelling, they not getting a cent now.

  • Their stock price is taking a massive knock:

  • +3

I got this too. Is this not unlawful?

    • Abobe claims that you are in breach of the contract/TOS because "you arn't using the service in the country of purchase".
    • Adobe claims a right to terminate the agreement under the TOS. While I havn't scanned the agreement to confirm this is part of the TOS/agreement, it is likely part of the agreement so I can accept this.
    • Adobe automatically increases the monthly service charge by something like 1000% and requests that you continue with an amended agreement for the remaining months in the agreement with this new service charge. (This seems like a grey area and is possibly unlawful, depending on careful consideration of the agreement).

    • Abobe claims you can choose to opt out of their revised agreement. However, when you try and opt out of their revised agreement, Adobe charges you statutory damages in the form of charging you the remaining months on your contract.

    … what?

The statutory damages part is where I draw the line here. If Adobe wants to terminate our agreement… fine. But it seems unlikely to be lawful to issue statutory damages to somebody who is the non-moving party in the request to terminate the contract and issue a new one or modify a contract.

I've contacted their live-chat and while it was difficult to get them to accept the cancellation without any fee, (I got passed to three people, ending with a supervisor), eventually it was cancelled without any fee.

Shameful money grab. If they want to force us to do business in Australia, then you need to abide Australian Consumer Law.

    • +1

And they need to stop geopricing their profits to tax havens

  • I got it too now

  • +2

Switch to Argentina student, there it's even cheaper than Turkey. You'd have to use VPN + new email address, BTW.

    • +1

I've set my VPN to Argentina but it's giving me USD pricing ($20/mo student pricing) not Argentine Peso.

    • -2

Adobe website will record your ip footprint, if you want your subscription to be in Argentina or whatever country, the footprint of your email address exposing to Adobe must be Argentina, no other country! Once contaminated your payment most likely won't go through.

    • is there a guide on this one?

  • Talk to adobe agent through the live-chat box, asking them to waive the early cancellation fee, and they will grant.

    • +3

Hol up… did I miss this? In my cancellation, it just mentioned my plan will continue until xx date, nothing about cancellation fee.

      • Same here, I did pay for the full year upfront though. I'm assuming the cancellation fee was for people who subscribed monthly or something?

        • +1

That might be the case for subbies cos I also paid upfront.

    • +2

      1) This is why i use disposable cards, thank you Oldubil \ Revolut
      2) I didnt see anyhting about a fee as i am on an annual plan and will continue to use this until my June cancellation before i set sail

  • +1

So even though we cancelled - are we expecting to still be charged the extra lira?
Coz we still have access til the end of the subscription which the original email indicated they'd charge us extra for.

  • Got it too. I mainly use adobe acrobat. But not paying $200+ a year for it. My uncle has better deal but he's over…sea

  • +16

It's a bit rich a company pretending they are in Dublin (to pay less tax) is telling us to stop pretending we're in Lebanon to pay less ourselves.

    • Didn’t consider that angle. Great way to articulate it.

      • Netflix did the same in Amsterdam until pretty recently

    • rich people/company dodge tax, while us little people get screwed…what else is new?…

    • you are so true

  • I cancelled my plan, hopefully no cancellation fee (I paid for a year) and hopefully it will last until June like it says. Seems to be a bit of a loophole since they were going to cancel this plan and refund pro rata then charge in AUD.

  • Received email too, anyone tried fighting it?

    • Received the email also. I think Adobe has a highly financed legal department so good luck anyone wanting to fight it. I'm sure if anyone carefully read the t&c's it would clearly state what they are doing is within their rights.

  • After you cancel get on live chat and ask them to remove your card info from your account. Until I did this, I could see the last digits of my card still in my account with no option to remove or update. It now says "credit card" when looking at my cancelled plan.

I uninstalled all adobe software which made me start getting an error after each boot. Had to stop adobe services and delete all the adobe folders to get rid of it completely. Not sure why there's adobe services still running after uninstalling all their software.

  • Cancelled via chat with fee waived. Has anyone tried PDFgear as an Acrobat alternative?

    • +1

What fee do you have to get waived?

  • cancelled straight away. need to find another software for photo editing now… 🥲

  • got this email too…
im seeing most ppl here cancelled their subs
but is $200/year worth the money?

I mainly use premiere, photoshop, acrobat and maybe AE occasionally but I don't use it for work.
in case its better to cancel, I got Photoshop alternative but not Premiere one tho…

    • +1

unless you do 10bit Log footage and need some specific professional tools, use DaVinci Resolve for free as Premiere alternative

  • +1

Adobe CS6 Master Collection still works great for me haha

is there a way to switch from monthly billed to annual before this email comes along? that way I guess we can get that extra year of coverage if this emails hitting us this month? I cant seem to find an option to change to annual sub.

    • You can thru support. They haven't asked anything about being in Au, refunded monthly pro-rata and billed for annual in same currency. Was on VPN. Let's hope it sticks. Overall took about 10 minutes but just saying yes, yes, yes after initial message

  • i paid AU$6 for an annual subscription. i haven't received any emails but i will cancel before may. but some you of tightwads chose a monthly subscription?

    • You may be able to get away if you use lebanon vpn every time you launch adobe products. I think most of us that got the email might have opened the software a set amount of times from our AU IP address before it got flagged in their system

  • Just got an email, chatted with live support, and successfully obtained a partial refund after quite a bit of back and forth.

  • Got the email an cancelled immediately. I only used it for one project. I found their AI is meh compared to the free microsoft image creator. The Ai autofill functionality is also restrictive as well. It kept gave me an error telling what i tried to generate violated their guidelines.

  • I also received the email. I was paying monthly for the Turkey full suite which was around $12 AUD a month. When I went to cancel, it was saying i had to pay a fee. I contacted support and asked to waive the fee. Not only did he waive the fee, he has given me an extra 3 months free of charge! I just double checked and I can cancel anytime and it's not applying a fee. Pretty happy with that. But also would have been happy to continue paying the monthly fee. I guess now they get nothing.

    • +1

If you are on monthly non-student sub, attempting to cancel yourself can get you 2 free months. 3 months later (after the next pay day), chat with an agent through the live chat box and threaten to cancel, then you might get extra 3 free months.

2 plus 3 must conduct in this order, not the other way around, so you missed the 2 part. 🤣

      • If I cancelled myself, which I tried, it wanted to charge me a fee, which was worth about 2 months of the subscription

  • I havnt had the email yet but on my account, they have raised the price to LL 980,400

  • C'mon Adobe, I'm just trying to teach these Lebanese students. Lebanon isn't a country, it's a mindset

  • +3

Forgot to cancel. Buggers charged me $264 this morning. Thankfully refund was processed immediately. Be careful, says only 14 days to get full refund. No idea on the legalities there.

Still pissed they didn't honour my 12months prepaid but cbf fighting. YYYAAARRRGGHHHH!

    • Same boat.

I did not see the original price change email. Just saw today, saying congrats on your new annual subscription. I logged in and cancelled. It says refund will be processed for full amount. No refund email yet though.

    • Mine got cancelled automatically cos I paid with the revolt card and they couldn't charge me. I'm hoping they will refund my money soon. How did you contact they to get your refund?

      • AH, I had the same thing happen. I used my Citi card to pay for this but since they switched to NAB on 24 Feb they couldn't charge the card haha!

        • They refunded $52, I paid $64 though :D

  • I also didn't realise this until adobe helped themselves to $264 on my credit card. They also dont have an option to delete your credit card from their system - but if you live chat them and don't have any active plan, they will manually.

Conveniently, they canceled my lebanon plan and did not follow through with sending me the pro-rata refund!…..

  • In "Manage Plan", I Can see "Cancel Your Plan"
When you cancel, you lose access to…
    Your favorite creative apps:
365 days remaining on your subscription. After Feb 29, 2024, you'll lose access to premium apps and services
I am getting like above does that mean i will not get refund?

  • +1

I just had them try to charge me the $280 or so to my Revolut frozen card hehe
