[SA, VIC] Margherita Pizza $12.50-$14.50 (Normally $25-$29), Friday 9/2 @ 400 Gradi

150

World Pizza Day is coming up this month on the 9.2.24 and we thought what better way to celebrate than HALF PRICE MARGHERITA PIZZAS at all our Gradi venues for One. Day. Only!
Does not include upgrades or additions, plain Margherita pizza only

400 Gradi is doing a similar deal to the Vapiano deal (2 Margherita pizzas for $23) but you only have to buy 1 pizza with 400 Gradi.

Most of their restaurants price the Margherita at $26. Norwood is $25. Crown is $29!

I've been going to this place for over a decade back when they only had 1 location in Brunswick where they used to dance with fake dough. After they won the World Pizza Championships in Parma, Italy, they're now a more upscale place with multiple locations HOWEVER… their pizza is still the same as it was when I first began going there and it comes out fast. It's on par with DOC Pizza ($24) for great Italian style pizza.

Locations:
BRUNSWICK, CROWN, EASTLAND, ESSENDON, MILDURA, MORNINGTON, NORWOOD

Dine-in Only

It's on the similar price range with dominos! I know which one would I got to 🙂

  • I didn't realise inflation has hit the pizza industry so hard…

      Google Maps:

      • $24 in Aug 2023
      • $23 in June 2021
      • $22 in Dec 2016
      • $20.50 in 2012

The pizzas are actually priced marginally less than inflation.

2012 price now should be $27.28, $27.12 from 2016 etc.

That's a lot of effort to prove a point, so I have to give you credit. @ 50% off, that's palatable, but at full price, it seems expensive. I've not eaten there, so I don't understand the justification for the price.

          You need a car
You can buy a Kia Picanto for about $19k or a Volkswagen Golf for about $40k
They’re both cars, but one is of significantly higher quality and comfort than the other

Now, instead of cars it’s pizza
You can buy Domino’s for $15 or 400 gradi for $25
400 gradi is made with higher quality ingredients and has won many awards around the world, Domino’s tried to open in Italy and closed within a year

  • Gradi in Brunswick used to be great up until about 10 years ago, then has really dropped off, can't comment on other locations though.

    • great up until about 10 years ago, then has really dropped off

Same with La Porchetta in North Carlton who I just heard are closing their doors after this weekend.

    • Oh really? I used to get it a couple of years ago when I lived in coburg, I thought it was great. It must have been something pretty special back in the day.

      • Food scene in Melbourne has changed dramatically. You used to get only Aussie style pizza or rarely Italian style. No NY pizza. Same with Mexican. It was Taco Bills or nothing. Now there's loads of variety of restaurants + fast food like GYG/Mad Mex.

But that inside of La Porchetta Carlton with celeb photos and random crap was something else.

        • And if you are old enough, back in the day you could spin the wheel at La Porchetta in Carlton and get free food.

    • Gradi in Brunswick was the original and the best but I haven't been there for many years. I did go to the Essendon Gradi more recently but the service there was appalling.

Which is a bit of a rip off for Melbourne…

Is there only one size pizza at the sorts of places OzBargains go to? Family?

A large pizza is way more than enough for me, and where I go in Adelaide I only pay $11.90 for a margherita, before adding extra toppings. Even if I wanted a family size it would only cost $19.30 there. And if I had a family to feed they's probably want a couple of different varieties rather than one huge family sized ones that required everyone to agree on the same thing.

OzBargain doesn't exist to recommend places that charge the highest prices.

(Just for the record though, after years of paying the same price I stopped going to my favourite pizza place for a few years because a change in work arrangements meant I no longer meant I went past there. When I came back to them I found their prices are just on twice what they were before. Is this because of the huge slice the gig economy delivery services take?)

Well both an Android and an iPhone are phones but iPhones are way more expensive. However if you want an iPhone, getting it as cheap as possible is a deal if that's what you want. Apples and Oranges Androids.

    • 400 Gradi in Norwood is pretty damn good though, you should give it a crack for a treat

$25-$29 for a margherita pizza? Whaaat.

  • What's the go with the second 400 Gradi in Brunswick East, further north along Lygon? Is that also an official store?

    • It's like a mini-supermarket. They sell random Italian food & drink but also their pizza and pasta for you to cook at home. They used to have a pizza oven cooking fresh pizza there as well but don't think they are doing that anymore.

      • Ahh ok, thought they still had the oven going. Thanks

  • Overpriced as all shit, but the missus has been fanging for a woodfired margy, so that's tomorrow's lunch sorted, cheers Neil!

  • Note - its dine in only. I think t&c's must have been updated as i don't recall seeing this the first time i looked at the deal.

  • FYI, this might be Dine-In only, although I managed to get Takeaway from Brunswick.

    • Called Essendon branch, only for dine-in and wouldn't let me get takeaway.

    • It's 100% dine-in only. The owner commented on the Instagram to confirm.
