About Memrise

Memrise is a British language platform that uses spaced repetition of flashcards to increase the rate of learning, [2]
combined with a GPT3-powered "AI Language partner" that allows learners to practice human-like conversations,[3]
which Memrise believes can help learners to overcome the "confidence gap" in language acquisition.[4]
It is based in London, UK.

Memrise offers user-generated content on a wide range of other subjects.
The Memrise app has courses in 16 languages and its combinations,
while the website has a great many more languages available [5]
As of 2018, the app had 35 million registered users.[6]
Memrise has been profitable since late 2016, having a turnover of $4 million monthly.[7]

Anki has been around a lot longer, and is free and open source. You can create your own decks of flash cards or download community generated ones for many languages and topics.

Buyer beware, Go read the subreddit at the moment for a bigger picture on what's going on, they are hemorrhaging users and "lifetime" is only good value if the app sticks around and they are losing a huge amount of users.

They are offering these deals because they are transitioning to a horrible AI system, this app used to have an amazing selection of user generated content, but good luck finding it in the app anymore. They are removing millions of hours of content that was a true differentiator, to basically just become any other language app.

  • Been learning a second language for several years now.

Never paid a red razo for any language app and never felt the need to tbh.

Happy to share what i used and how i found them useful for anyone serious about learning a second language.
