Not much of a discount, but as far as I am aware this is the first discount since release. 512gb is slightly better with a 5% discount here: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CDFGCRW6?aref=undefined&aaxit…

Hope someone enjoys!

I bought a 512gb one to deal with my apple vision pro cope.

The real bargain are the quest 2 models being sold on marketplace for $200 and under from people upgrading.

    • +8

Absolutely. But I do think the 3 is a big improvement.

      • +2

Depends what you are using it for, if you are just doing beat sabre and workout games etc, there is not much noticeable difference.

        • +10

Totally, whatever floats your boat. For me, it was worth the upgrade as I sold my quest 2 for $450 on eBay with 0% fees.

          • +1

@cc23: When did you sell it for that? I'm sure it wasn't recently?

        • if you are just doing beat sabre and workout games etc
hmm interesting make me want to buy q2 again lol

    • +6

Speaking of marketplace, I've been looking for Quest 3 models on there and it seems like there are so many fake listing. Lots at around $450 - $500 using similar, if not the same, photos. With errors like photos of the 512GB model with the listing mentioning the 128GB model. Doesn't feel quite right to me.

      • +4

I've encountered quite a few scammers in the small amount of time I've used marketplace.

      • +3

Yep all quest 3 marketplace is hot property from scammers.

        • Seems like it, which makes it hard to find people actually selling them secondhand.

      • +4

You'll find lots of scammers on Market place. They usual lure people by listing the most popular electronics e.g. PS5, Quest, PSVR2.
Ask them for a physical address and they'll claim to be the "middle man" then divert you to another person asking for a bank transfer.

      • +1

bought mine off ebay for $500… hadnt even been opened.

        • Wow, not bad at all!

      • +1

Also scammers list them under Sydney region but when you ask for their location, they are somewhere in another state nobody can get to. They then proceed to tell you they can post the item to you. Beware!

    • Are there any new ones being sold at reasonable prices?

    • +3

i dont see any under $200

      what area are you in?

      • +1

I see one for $280 in Brisbane, could probably negotiate a little. Anything around $200~ is probably snapped up instantly as per marketplace bargains. Need notifications turned on and be watching 24/7 as most good deals are gone within the hour.

  • if i had motion sickness with Q2 will have i the same with this Q3 ? (when playing flight game, red matter, rollercoaster etc - but fine with beatsaber)

    • +1

Personally I found the motion sickness to be the same across all headsets. But I find the general experience and visuals better with quest 3.

I still basically only use teleportation in intense games and play beat saber (probably 90% of the time in VR).

      • any difference Q2 Q3 for playing beat saber? do you play moon saber? https://moonrider.xyz/

      • That can be a frame rate issue when using for PC VR, ie the Quest isn't playing the game, it's the 'monitor'
It's why people buy 4090's for VR, maximum frame rate, and maximum clarity (over sampled)

    • +3

Its very normal you basically have to build up your tolerance. As soon as you start to feel bad or a headache close your eyes and take off the headset and have a break. Don't try power through it. Better to also play games with low motion at the start where you just stand still etc.

    • Good note yeah, I am purposefully not referral spamming on this post of course.

    • Wish that game refferal page was updated I have a quite a few games I'd like a link on ( not just my link but when purchasing it would have been nice to use it on newer titles)

  • -1

Sold mine found it too heavy and cumbersome to use enjoyably for much time, however have read others have had good experiences with it

    • +3

I found with Q2, aftermarket head straps helped a lot, especially if you counterbalance the front weight with a small battery pack on the back of the head strap.

    • +6

My ex broke up with me for the same reasoning :(

    • +1

No wonder why apple separated battery from headset

      • Idk if you understand the issue or sarcasm? The front weight issue is one of the biggest problems with the vision pro and since they put the battery in your pocket, to counter balance it will require a modified head strap either with another USB running back up to the back of your head and an extra battery there, a weird loop of cable and a way to fix the 1st party battery to the back of your head, or a counterweight that adds no extra battery.

        • +1

Vison pro weights like brick already if you still love your neck. Stop putting more weight on the head

    • This is as light as standalone with built in battery can get.

The only big down side is the stock interface and strap is super uncomfortable coming from years use of 3rd party ones. Can’t bare those for more than 5mins.

  • wish they had a different bundled game or just straight up gave like.. $50 credit (which basically gets you 1 game if that)

    • +2

If you use the ozb referral link, they do give you $47 store credit on top of getting the free game.

    • pretty sure some people snagged the $750 amazon giftcard with $30 credit during that one promo so use that on this and you save around $60. what happened though is users found a loop hole where they could claim all bonus amounts then remove all GC's from cart except the cheapest one ($250) and the promo got cancelled next day with only max $10 credit claimable. I was one of those who thought it would last until the next morning and missed out.

if only those users read the T&C's it says amazon can charge their payment method if they claim more than they actually qualify for. so there was nothing to gain by getting the promo pulled. great.

  • +1

Too many dead pixels, returned 2 of them. The first had 4 dead pixels. The second had a super large cluster of dead pixels.

    • +1

My first headset had dead pixels as well. Thankfully no issues with the second. Was definitely worth getting via Amazon as their support is far superior.

      • +1

I think as per reddit posts the QC is bad. Many headsets have dead pixels and users dont know how to detectt them (which is alright). But once you notice one, its hard to miss everytime you wear it.

        • +1

Mine was in my line of sight so it had to go.

    • Mine has an issue where if the display is tiltled. Its a bit hard to tell during normal usage, but if you have a metric overlay such as Virtual Desktops performance metrics, its very obvious. Hard to tell if its the strap, fitting or lens itself.

      • +1

May be the sensor itself is faulty. Try taking a screenshot and ask on meta forums. If they say it's faulty or if factory reset does not help. Get it replaced. You paid 800 and that's a lot of money.

        • cheers, will start there.

      • quest 3 displays are tilted inwards. they aren't positioned straight like in quest 2. that's normal.

          • @kehuehue: hmm do you mean you can't level it by holding the meta button on the right controller?

sometimes if your head is even slightly tilted it will result in a slanted view like you showed. sometimes it gets it right but most times you have to level it a few times to get it how you expect.

  • +1

Quest2 is where the value at and so easy to side load games

    • +4

you can also side load q3?

    • +1

      How is it for SteamVR?

      • You mean side load? Yeh also easy

        • No, I mean just as a tethered PCVR headset, which I understand is possible.

          • +1

@caitsith01: Yes don't even need a cable if your wifi is good enough. There's airlink wireless mode.

          • +1

@caitsith01: Been using pcvr steamvr for years now. All with VD q2 q3 and pico4 user here

      • +2

It's perfect for steam VR whether via airlink or via a USB cable

    • -1

Any recommended info links re. Sideloading?

      Or just Google it?

      • +1

Google it lol first result should be it

      • Rookie Side Load

    • Any good Quest 2 deals then?

      • stock is low. pretty sure amazon already cleared out one of the storage models.

they were made ages ago and I heard people were getting brand new units where the battery wouldn't charge past 50%. some experts also criticising other technical stuff is poorly made can't remember everything sorry.

  • -6

    So poor mans vision pro?

    • +18

Quest 3 came out before vision pro, so if anything would call the vision pro an apple tax'd quest 3

    • +4

Vision pro for people who want to actually use games/apps of their choosing…

      • What do u mean? Quest can also use apps of their choosing

        • +2

Yes, Quest can, Vision Pro can't is my point.

          • @caitsith01: I reckon you are going to see many "influencers" showing off the vision pro, and you will even see it in TV shows & movies.

But i don't think their are going to be many fools buying it. This is going to be worse than the mac pro trash can edition

            • -2

              @whitepuma: You underestimate the iSheep.

They'll just max out their credit cards.

    • -2

This has waaaaay more functionality than a vision pro. Lul. The only thing vision pro has going for it is hardware, but it's also 10x the price.

      • +1

Vision pro is going to be a massive flop…

  • +1

I’ve seen some cool stuff on YouTube like visiting an Arcade and being able to walk upto a machine and play. But I’m not sure if it’s a PC driving it ot it’s the headset independently?!?

    • +1

      Quest can so that yes

  • I thought there be a discount on this as this jumped up $200 for few days and suspected there be a price drop I was right but not much of a drop

  • Love my old Rift CV1, but it's just too annoying to set up with the sensors and such so a wireless setup is very tempting on top of higher resolution and AR. Will the LCD displays on the Quest 3 be a noticeable downgrade from the old OLED displays of the CV1, in terms of colour and brightness?

    • +1

In terms of brightness, no, but in terms of black levels and colour, yes. OLED is just can't be beat in this field, but every single other facet of the experience is such a massive upgrade from the CV1. There's no other competition for the Quest 3 without going over $1.5k and even then with other compromises.

    • +1

I'm still rocking the Rift CV1, have my 3 sensors wall mounted and I've extended the HDMI/USB cable on the headset to get more play space (5mtrs).

Only reason why id jump over to the Quest 3 is the resolution is heaps better and the screen is brighter.

Can't justify the upgrade as I don't VR as much as I used to.

  • The 128GB version oddly went up to $948 yesterday before coming down to this

    https://i.imgur.com/7shbhig.jpeg

  • +1

    hows porn performance on Q3?

    • It’s hubbable

    • +1

I tested the Vision Pro in an us Apple Store. Video quality is like full hd compare to quest low def tv. If that’s the only thing that matters in a VR headset for you, the Vision Pro would be the ultimate device.

  • +1

For anyone who has one, how is text on the Q3? We bought a Q2 as a monitor substitute for working when travelling, but the resolution and anything not directly in the centre being blurry made it pretty useless.

    • +2

It's definitely a big improvement over Q2 with the higher res and importantly pancake lenses letting you look around with your eyes and it's still clear, but for me it's still not quite good enough for working in for hours on end. Perfectly fine for a couple of hours here and there

    • +1

Got one last week (Amazon support wouldn’t credit me the difference).

So far in the text space it’s exceeded and fallen short of expectations.

As long as it’s not too far away it’s easily readable. Never had Vr prior so can’t compare but outside the decent centre space the clarity is reduced slightly (ie if you keep head still and look with eyes). Sharpens up quickly when head redirected. On the main quest OS / apps it’s less noticeable, but when I was trying Virtual Desktop with my 3 monitors (27 + 34 + 27 inch @ 1440p) it was a bit weak when I moved them backwards. Also struggled with the keyboard on pass through in VD. I may have been a bit ambitious with not huge amount of time and haven’t played with any settings yet so may be user problem.

    • Even more clear than pico4.

    • +1

I was hoping it would be a huge improvement on Quest 2 and its not. Id say 90% of my use is Bigscreen watching shows when kids have taken over TV or im travelling. Its ok but if i could have tried it beforehand i wouldnt buy. IF i buy another headset in future it will only be after trying in person. There are just too many factors that are indiviualised like weight/fit/general comfort to use/getting the BEST possible angle on the head. I still constantly move it around when i see blurry text. Some angles text looks decent then something will move and its not quite right.

  • Roughly 12% the price of Vision Pro
    Quest 3 vs Vision Pro

    • So basically quest lacks some basic apps, just like android lacking apps compared to iphone in 2010

      • -2

Kinda, it's missing all the "you're a complete toss pot" apps.

        • +1

          tosspot spotted.

      • +1

Quest 3 runs android so you can load any android app on there via sideload. Although this is not in the official meta store, you can get access to all play store apps quite easily

        • Nice.

      • -1

The Vision Pro lacks basic features, like hand controllers and a guardian system, instead relying on laggy hand tracking and pretty much requiring the user not to move in VR apps.
It also has a bulky external battery (likely because Apple wasted space and weight with that dumb front display).

  • anyone played AW2 on their quest 2 then went to quest 3?
I have this game on q2 but I find it underwhelming, great concept but its just lacking that little bit on the graphical side which Im told q3 wont make much of a difference on?

  • +3

The discount was live for me this morning but I just went to purchase and it's back to full price… Same for everyone? Limited to a certain number of sales or something?

    • +2

Was going to ask the same question. Still want to get it but yeah I dunno, it wasnt a huge discount but it was still something.

      • +1

I think there was a voucher offer a few weeks back (though I didn't have the money then regardless), but a straight discount is more alluring to me.

Edit: re the "voucher" I might be thinking of the $47 credit referred to elsewhere ITT.

  • +1

Waited 2 month for discount and right after I bought mine and this……..

  • I purchased my quest 3 128Gb on stock x for $675 in December last year. Was brand new and included gst delivered. It came with a uk plug so it’s not local stock but delivery was super quick.

    • +1

Thanks for telling me about this. Just got my bid accepted on stock x after waiting a few weeks. Not as good as your deal but still decent at $701.
