Amazon Not Processing Refund after a Month

I purchased a high value item on Amazon fulfilled by Amazon and it took a while to deliver. I paid using Amazon gift cards.

Finally one evening it said it had started shipping and was passed over to the courier. The next morning I went on Amazon support and asked them to cancel. They called The Courier and were able to cancel it for me. I expected a refund back to my gift balance.

Over a month has passed and I have no refund. Every time I have talked to support they said they will process it and sorry and it will take two to 10 business days. Obviously none of them went through. I even have other refunds where I returned an item and the refund has come through.

Looking back at the Amazon tracking, though the courier company says the item was refused by customer and then later says the item is lost. I'm not sure what to do now because obviously I don't want to add more gift cards when I'm going to have this huge refund that will take me years to use up.

I tried to escalate and the support set they talked to the supervisor and of course the same wait another 10 business days.

  • Shipped by Amazon ? Or a third party?
All my returns been actioned within literally hours of scan at the post office…

    • Shipped by Amazon, everything is by Amazon I always try to avoid third party.
Parcel never actually came to me so there is no way I could be liable for whatever has happened if it wasn't returned to the factory.

Finally one evening it said it had started shipping and was passed over to the courier.

"It was at this moment, he realised he fked up"

And then, only then, proceeded to cancel it.
"This was the beginning of a long and dangerous journey for the parcel - one that would involve physical loss, financial loss, time loss and despair for the purchaser"

      • And then the OzBargain post.

I’m fairly sure that I’ve read the exact scenario here before.

He waited until the parcel was shipped before cancelling the order, ensuring the parcel was on its way while also receiving a refund via gift card. This appears to have been meticulously planned.🤔

Reads that way… must have done it before..

I dealt with a similar scenario before. I returned a high value item which was marked as delivered to the Amazon warehouse, but I didn't receive any refund after over 30 days, even after providing my receipt of the return from AusPost.

I don't think this is well known (and for a good reason otherwise people will abuse it), but a quick search will prove to you it's legit — you can use [email protected] for scenarios like this where you want a serious escalation if you're not getting anywhere with customer support. Obviously it's not actually monitored by Jeff but it's an executive escalations department. Your account gets warned if you overuse this email or contact them unnecessarily, so make sure you've exhausted all other options first.

You could try following up with customer support one last time and make a scene about how you're a Prime customer and you're incredibly frustrated. Alternatively, use the escalation email and provide a summary of the issue. Include as much info as possible including links, time stamps, logs, etc.

    Good luck.

  • Finally one evening it said it had started shipping and was passed over to the courier. The next morning I went on Amazon support and asked them to cancel.

So why did you cancel it after being 'finally' shipped?

Why not wait for it to arrive and then return it if you had changed your mind?

Or is this a case of the scammer being scammed?

Over a month has passed and I have no refund

Amazon is waiting for the item to be returned, but looks to be lost.

    • Why am I not allowed ask them to cancel it after shipped
why is it better to wait for it to arrive and return it
for what reason would I have to return it if it's a change of mind

what kind of scam do you run where something never gets delivered to you and you lose your money for a month?
It doesn't seem a very intelligent scam

Why am I not allowed ask them to cancel it after shipped

You are, but it is a change of mind refund, so they don't have to accept it. But why wait till it was shipped to cancel!?

why is it better to wait for it to arrive and return it

As recalling a package is not that easy.

what kind of scam do you run where something never gets delivered to you and you lose your money for a month?

In your case a bad scam, as it didn't work out for you.

        You had been hoping for

Order large item, wait for it to be shipped, cancel the order knowing that they can't really stop the item mid shipment.

So you end up with a refund and the product.

Wow you have feeble reading skills and understanding of the world.
          Read it again.

Also, why would they refund IF it got delivered?
OMG go back to your fantasy land

and yet, so many other people in this thread think the same thing.

Also, why would they refund IF it got delivered?

Thats is the scam, the fact they can't recall the package, but offered a refund. The scam is you get a free item.

OMG go back to your fantasy land

            LOL

  • Try to scam amazon??

  • never have issues with Amazon, all my refund are process within minutes, even stuff that still in transit and got lost some where or it taking too long, they just refund me straight away, I usually paid with credit card but when I get refund I get them to credit them into my Amazon gift card account because it wont take long for me to use it up.

I think Amazon have profiling on all their users, if they detect something isn't right then tend to delay, there are plenty of cases where amazon completely banned users using their platform when they detect frauds

    • I think Amazon have profiling on all their users

      They 100% do

if they detect something isn't right then tend to delay, there are plenty of cases where amazon completely banned users using their platform when they detect frauds

They also do this too. Too many refunds and you can be banned for example.

Back in the day, reviews used to order products, review them, and then return them for 'free'. People used to go on about all the returns they had made and how great amazon was, then BOOM Amazon cancelled their account for too many returns and they cried it was unfair that Amazon cancelled their account.

  • You should have waited until it's delivered and return for a refund

  • You should have cancelled before it was shipped or returned it once it arrived…

“ I even have other refunds where I returned an item and the refund has come through.”

    You should have done this.

I thought it would be safer to stop it before it enters my hand. Also because it's a change of mind I don't get to just return it.

      • Its still a change of mind return if it is cancelled before it is delivered.
