Anyone had a bad experience with travel deals from any GroupBuy?

i'm tempted to get a travel deal from GroupBuy but i'm very cautious that it will be another rip off. I've heard of stories where the hotels doesn't honour the deal, restricted by travel dates etc. Does anyone has any bad experience to share?

  • Yes, firstly - a restaurant that had closed down before we got to use the vouchers. Secondly, we paid for a small plane flight and the company would not answer their telephones nor were they at the airport to meet us for an arranged flight, so we have lost out on 2 deals in total

  • I bought a deal for 5 nights in Koh Lak from Spreets.

Went really well. The resort was well above and beyond our expectations.

    No problems at all :)

  • Used wotif and was really happy. Have used scoopon and been lucky so far. Holidays of Australia has some great buys and they are real travel agents with real people - not a group website. Highly recommend them. Also try the travelzoo notification emails.

  • I have probably used over a dozen. Just used one this weekend. Never had any trouble.

The most disappointing was a scoopon I bought on ebay for $100 for 5 or 7 nights in Koh Samui. That place is just a hole. Other people were happy there however.

Check hotel out on trip advisor and confirm they will allow you to do the dates you want, unless it is a local place that you have heaps on time to use, in which case, book as soon as possible.

  • Just check do your research before buying. There's been a few 'deals' where it was cheaper to just book via the hotel's website.

  • can't remember which site but there's one that guarantee availability otherwise they will give you a refund. anyone has successful refunds before? (might be scoopon)

    • I think that the guarantee varies by the offer. Be sure you comply with whatever the requirements are for an attempted booking.

  • I don't trust them, for what they sell not cheap but expensive actually.
