  • +1

Says WiFi, but not specifically built-in or USB, when I got one it was a separate dongle which isn't as good.

Just like the RAM config, you won't know what you're getting until it arrives.

  • It appears it has both
    2.5–inch drive
    M.2 PCIe SSD

I guess I can just buy a 2.5-inch drive for the 2nd drive?

  • What power supply come with this.

  • Unable to use coupon code! Any help pls. Cheers

  • Seems both the codes don't work any more.

  • I got one of these from this store midway last year, has been rock solid for me as a basic word processing and internet machine, great store 👍

  • for the non-technical - to play a game like Age of Empires 2, is this PC a good bet? and when we look a the specs, how do you identify if it's possible to add a dedicated graphics card? (been told to do that).

    • +1

No you can't add a dedicated GPU, this form factor is too small for that. You should be able to play Age of Empires 2 on just the integrated GPU.

      • thanks :)

  • +1

You've said it comes with Win 11 pro here but the ebay listing just shows Win 11. Which is it?

    • +2

      Pro

      • I received this message from the eBay store for this listing:

"These units come with Windows Home as standard.

        Australian Computer Traders

        XS[[605486143][CKVYECN14913I]]"

        • CS team will always go for the default.

          • @Calmago: "I can request the order is processed with windows 11 pro as per ozbargain. However, if the unit has been picked and packed already then it will be dispatched with Windows 11 Home. Please note the listing on ebay does not state pro.
            Australian Computer Traders"

Are they shipped with Windows keys or Windows preinstalled?

  • +11

Heads up, I bought one of these a year or so ago from these guys (exact same unit).

    It came as follows:

Missing Blue 2.5" HDD plastic caddy
    Missing Wifi/BT m.2 module
Ram was 2x8GB but old 2133mhz (most ppl got 2666mhz)
PSU very scratched and beat up (seems to work though!)
No extra HDMI/DP extension board (most ppl got this too)

They were very aware that mine was a complete and utter dud too, as they had the audacity to deliberately send me a $2 Chinese junk wifi adaptor to meet the "comes with wifi" in the ad.

However, I managed to get them to send me the actual m.2 wifi card after referring them to the "ac wifi+bt internal" in the ad.

They handled my request fairly well, but others just got a "too bad pal, it's luck of the draw" kind of response apparently.

    • To balance this with some positive feedback, I've bought two devices (a laptop and a mini desktop) from ACT in the past, both with no issues. Laptop keyboard failed after ~10 months and was replaced under warranty. Was hard to get in touch with someone for the warranty process (I ended up going to the sales line) but once I did they were quite helpful.

      • +1

Not really a balance. More like I'm avoiding any deals now after hearing above

  • -2

Would not 8th Gen Intel NUC at but higher price be an attractive homelab option?

    • this is a great homelab option, the performance you get out of these will be more than enough for most people's workloads.

  • No, NUC was Intel's branding for SFF PC's, this is better value and the same CPU gen.

  • I take it this is 2.5" SSD, leaving the m.2 free for a 2nd NIC?

  • Thanks OP, I missed out on the last deal, so I picked one up.

I then thought about the price and realised it may not come back for a while, so I bought a second one LOL

I'll be repurposing one as an ESXI host to replace my M700, which is starting to show signs of age.

    • +2

You sticking with ESXI given the announcement with the EOL of the free tier? Any plans to move to another hypervisor?

      • +4

        Proxmox looks cool

      • +4

wow, I had no idea, that's really disappointing. I guess I'll be moving to proxmox.

      • Along with the termination of perpetual licensing, Broadcom has also decided to discontinue the Free ESXi Hypervisor, marking it as EOGA (End of General Availability). The free cut of ESXi was only able to run on limited number of cores, addressed a modest quantity of memory, and lacked many management niceties.

  • +3

@Calmago do you know the model of wifi card it comes with?

    • +2

not off the top of my head can go suss a unit tomorrow if you really need to know.

  • Wow. I thought i got it cheap at 272 in october. Great pc. Set up in my workshop to a 50 inch samsung lcd tv. Great for referring to manuals on line etc. Suoer happy even at the price i paid.

  • +3

It says Optional 3rd Video Port (VGA/DP/HDMI 2.0b/USB Type-C Alt Mode)

Anyone buy one of these options ? Easy to find & install ? Or does ACT do it for you ?

    • Where do you see this option?

      • Optional 3rd Video Port (VGA/DP/HDMI 2.0b/USB Type-C Alt Mode) 1 Universal Audio Jack 1 Line-Out

        It's under I/O ports

        • I see it now, cheers. Is it a case of messaging the seller when I buy the computer to add this option?

  • Will this be an upgrade over a Ryzen 5 2500u(with vega graphics)?

    • +1

      Yes

  • Hi does it come with the wifi antenna.

  • Ops has sold over a thousand of these units? How many left?

    • Not bad almost $200,000

  • Wouldn’t have thought this would be a windows 11 supported machine. I understand you can get around the checks but also read recently MS may be doing some extra checking in the future.

    • +1

8th gen is the minimum officially supported CPU. I thought that was the appeal of this model?

  • +1

Bought, thanks OP. Hopefully consumption is low. Looking to use it as a 24/7 server.

    • Approx 15W at idle

      • I measured 8-9W idle.

        • +1

          Just curious
          How do you measure it?

          • +1

@Suricate: "kill a watt" style AC meter.
For comparison, an older i5-4750T micro uses 11W, and the 7040 SFF draws 15W (non-T) idle.

  • f-me I just bought ANOTHER one. I already have a HP USFF, Lenovo Tiny, and Dell USFF from previous deals.
This one is destined for proxmox - hopefully that will prevent be purchasing a 5th!

I can recommend for homeassistant, and batocera, and plex, or even an actual desktop computer for people who just want to browse and do desktop stuff.

They're small so you can stick them out of the way for homelab stuff, but cooling can be an issue as they don't get a lot of airflow when they are on 24/7.

    • For improved cooling and reliability, I suggest re-applying thermal paste on the CPU and heatsink.

    • How noisy are they?

      • +1

Inaudible at idle. You have to strain to hear at medium loads. Moderately audible at the highest loads.

        • +1

Thanks. Grabbing one to replace my Plex/Jellyfin/HomeAssistant server, which is running on an old i7-2600k machine. With that drawing 80-120W, I figure this thing will pay itself off in under a year in saved energy costs. Just didn't want it to be too noisy, since it's going in a living space (the 2600k has massive heatsinks and silent fans).

  • I would like to run crypto nodes. The machine will be on 24/7. Should I get this one or one of the mini pc with N100 or N95 processor comes up here very often? Thanks

  • Jesus OP, how much surplus stock do you have? 😳

  • Anyone have any thoughts as to whether to get something like this or a micro pc like the KAMRUI AK2 Plus Mini PC? Looking for a computer to connect a DJ mixer to and store music. Would be good to know how it goes with watching YouTube and multiple browser windows open

    • yeah …

which would be better to get n100 micro pc or these i5 8500T USFF?

  • Also anyone know what happens if you need to wipe the device and reinstall windows? Do you need some sort of recovery USB?

    • +1

You will only need an installation media which can be downloaded from Microsoft.
The windows key will be embedded into the bios which makes installation a bit easier too

  • Cheers for the deal. Picked one up.

  • Can anyone comment if they have external wifi antennas, I wonder how strong the wifi will be if it's internal and worth upgrading

      • do they give a wifi usb plug or just give you the wifi antenna with this deal?
and how fast is the wifi / wifi version?

  • Anyone know how these compare to those micro PCs?

    • yeah anyone know how i5-8500T compares to N100 micro PC?

in terms of specs and performance…

      • +2

From looking at the benchmarks, I'd say the 8500T is probably slightly quicker, generally speaking, but there are probably some new instructions which the N100 would be faster at calculating, but I'm no expert. The single-core benchmarks are quicker for the 8500T, and if you want to use this for multi-threaded applications, the 8500T should also be better suited due to 6 CPU cores vs the 4 in the N100.
        https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/5157vs3231/Intel-N100-v…

If power consumption is a concern for you, the N100 will be cheaper to run, however these Tiny PCs tend to use about 10W on idle anyway, so it shouldn't be a big concern.

Here's some reading which might help with your decision:
        https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/15zduiy/optiplex_3060…

        • thanks for info

          also from googling

the n100 is based on Alder lake 12th gen, while these are 8th gen CPU..
not sure if that means the iGPU would have better performance for
          -games
-video playback (4k / 8K etc), video transcoding etc.

If power consumption is a concern for you, the N100 will be cheaper to run, however these Tiny PCs tend to use about 10W on idle anyway, so it shouldn't be a big concern.

isn't the n100 also only runs at 6W or is that 6W idle?

  • The “T” cpus are all designed with 35w TDP whereas the n100 are 6W? From memory.
So not as efficient but more powerful.
Not as powerful as the non-usff desktops that use 65W cpus.

    • You cannot tell efficiency from TDP - that is just a maximum.
A quick google of n100 finds people reporting system idle power higher than for this Optiplex.

  • Is this expired?

    • I checked, it's still available - $192.66 with ebay plus

      • +1

This item is out of stock.

          • @Suricate: It still says out of stock - do you actually have the ability to add it to your cart or buy it now?

            • +1

              @howcan: Oh… You are right. I can't add. Sorry

  • just had mine, plugged in to monitor only supports 1920 x 1080 ?? is this right

  • +1

I just had mine delivered and thought I'd post details of what's inside mine. I bought two, and the internals were identical.

    Memory
    1x Hynix 16GB DDR4-2666V HMA82GS6CJR8N

    Storage
1x Micron M2 SATA SSD MTFDDAV256TBN - this leaves the actual 2.5" HDD slot empty for future expansion

    WiFi
    Intel 9560NGW

      • mine were fairly clean to be honest. Maybe I got lucky though.

      • mine is like never been turned on.

    • If you (or anyone) decides to repaste, please let us know if it was worth it

    • I was unlucky to get 2 X 8gb sticks.
So I'll be throwing these to get 2 X 16gb

      • How’s the overall condition of the unit you received?

        • Its not too bad, but not quite perfect.
          Its relatively dust free inside.
Im missing one of the rubber feet underneath but it did come with the 2.5" hdd caddy
TOSHIBA KSG60ZMV256G M.2 256GB SSD and Hard Disk Sentiniel is showing 92% health, 352 days powered on, 20TB lifetime writes.
It came with 2 x Micron 8gb DDR4-2666 sticks (would have prefered 1x16gb for future upgradability)

      • Isn't it faster to run 2 x 8Gb sticks? dual channel mode should be faster

        • Maybe some people want to upgrade to 32GB.
          I didn't think about upgrades but I got 1 x 16GB and "I get laggy 4K playback on YouTube"
So, I had to order "an identical 16GB RAM stick" "to enable dual channel memory" that I didn't have to if I got 2 x 8GB.
Considering that my 4.5-year-old laptop is still running smoothly with 2 x 8GB, I guess dual-channel memory will resolve the issue.

  • Got mine. Condition was good inside and out but its slow. Wonder if adding another ram stick to make it dual channel would make it faster.

    • I wiped the SSD + fresh installed Windows 11 + downloaded latest Dell Bios and driver updates and mine runs pretty well. It's probably placebo, but it seemed to perk up after all the Windows and Dell updates were installed.

  • Mine came with the wrong power adapter. A tad annoying, but a message to the seller on ebay should sort it out (fingers crossed).

  • I have received mine, haven't tested it yet but got 1x 16GB RAM (I wish it was 2x 8GB).

I got a Fujitsu FMV-AC341B power supply, has everybody else got this same power supply?

    • I got a Dell 130w (19.5V 6.7A)

      • Just tried and mine doesn't fit, its not the correct power supply - very annoying

        • Message them on ebay. They sent me the proper one via Express post. Received it the next business day (a Monday).

  • Got 1x16GB ram. Can't play 4k videos smoothly. Maybe getting another stick of ram would help?

    • 16GB is heaps for 4K video. Could just be processor related.

      • I'll test the cpu but my understanding is that the ram being dual channel would make a difference.

        • +2

I got my RAM delivered today. The issue with "laggy 4K playback on YouTube" has been resolved.
Just wanted to share my experience.
          Thanks to @DigitalAnalog

          • @Suricate: Where did you buy your RAM from and how much was it?
