Slow Delivery Times with Australia Post

I have 3 parcels from New Zealand NZPOST.co.nz show they all arrived 19.2.24. Australia Post said they had 2 packages in Adelaide on 19th now are in transit from NZ to Adelaide.

Courier companies have no problems. I can get a UPS parcel from USA economy post in 1 week with recent HDD purchases a couple of weeks ago. Amazon can deliver from USA/AU in less than a week and it takes Australia Post 7 days or more domestic Adelaide, or 2 weeks from interstate?

  • What level of service are the sending parties paying for?

So some pom can buy herself a 20k$ bulgari and managers 2K or more Cartiers

I prefer shopping at Amazon to fund Jeff's space/high-atmosphere jaunts.

    • i like to think a part of my yearly spend with amazon has gone towards funding Jeff's 10,000 year clock in the mountains.

i also like to imagine its this big ass clock hidden under ground…and its actually powered by a crappy generic white-face kmart clock.

      • Ahh, funding a 43 million dollar (USD) clock - much better than a "$20k bulgari".

Vaguely reminds me of an article I read about billionaires needing a loyal workforce after societal collapse. I'd imagine a workforce of oompa loompas manually operating it - possibly using a kmart clock as a reference.

        for you…

  • Why do our tax payer dollars go to OzPost

    They don't.

    • -3

Its an AusGov corporation like NBN linked to the Corporation of Australia as listed on NYSE

      • How many 'tax payer dollars' have they received as you claim ???

      • -1

Bit of an ignorant comment - AusPost is totally self funded and pays dividends to the government

        • -2

Self funder through atrocious costs and government owned to bit! It's funny how mediocrity for many passes as first world in Australia …….

      • There is no "Corporation of Australia " "listed on NYSE". That's just a silly slobberin' citizen fantasy

Australia is registered on the SEC - not the the NYSE lol -like almost every other country in the world because it has to do so to sell bonds etc in the US.

    huh ???

that is now Short term memory loss when Christine Hogan was domineering the OZPOST roost. a few years ago

    • +1

      *Holgate!

She was a victim of bullying by Scomo with a pile on by the press. Maybe the problem is your parcel isn't addressed correctly.

      • Maybe the problem is your parcel isn't addressed correctly.

Or it was addressed in New Zealandish…

    • Who is Christine Hogan ?

  • Is the order potentially related to the certain ban coming in to place from 1st March?

  • -3

Holgate, just another bo—n imported CEO aka Woolies The point was OzPost's appalling delivery times and lack of acceptable service thereof
Sure they will run it down and say come on DownUnda to Deutsche Post (who bought DHL etc) to take over …

    • IIRC, Holgate made the business profitable. At the time, there was some speculation that she helped prevent privatisation which is why Scomo was angry with her.

To counter your anecdote, I've been very happy with delivery times and service from Auspost recently.

      • similarly, under leadership of Brad Woolworths the woolworths share price has doubled. Tremendous value generated for the shareholders.

Sure Of 50 or so parcels over the past 3 months stuff from USa China EU takes a week or less even AliExpress all couriers and SwissPost/UPS OzPost couldn't organize a boozeup in a brewery, but I guess if non-discerning massess think 2-3 weeks for intra-Australia delivery is acceptable…… Bring on DeutschePost

        • Are you prepared to pay more for those services though?

Because that's already an option. Choose a vendor that has DHL/Fedex as an option.

          • -1

@ihfree: Always get the cheapest postage, which is generally free - I never get express delivery And 3 weeks now for an Express post from QLD Maybe its the floods …..Mind you the OzPost Express post item has been in Adelaide for a week and its still not here The AliExpress slow boat from China is quicker than OZPOST Express post intra-AU

              @glyptothek: Rubbish!
We post 50 plus items a week with AusPost, of which at least half are Express Post. As a general rule deliveries to capital cities/suburbs is next day. Regional centres 2 days.

        • What are you ordering 50 parcels of overseas?

          • -2

@AustriaBargain: computer stuff, TB/USB 4 cables, 22TB and 20 tb HDD, Power stations, NAS, DAS, etc etc All much cheaper to buy in Euros Shekels and US currency than the poor OZ shekel

            • @glyptothek: Wow, are you single, we should get married so I can inherit all that cool stuff one day. Sounds like your house is going to be a technological wonderland.

I wonder if it ever occurred to OP any delay may be due to the need for Customs clearance?

  • -1

Customs already cleared…….at least according to Nzpost.co.nz and OZPost tracking

Comparing normal AP packages to Amazon is a little unfair, as Amazon has paid for priority access to AP's network. Also they'll shove millions of packages into AP's systems this year. The larger the volume the greater your ability to negotiate better terms.

    • -1

Some of my delayed and protracted delivery items have been OzPost Express items …… As mentioned above shipping from China economy mails is faster than OzPost

      • The free China shopping is subsidised by Australia Post. Australia Post actually do a lot of things that are unprofitable on paper.

        • -3

Good Great to see our taxes (I pay exorbitant amount each year) are going to something useful rather than Christine Holgate and AusPost executives' watches! Unlike the crud we have as AUSPOLITITCIANS who are just in it for the cash (bar a few) Funny you mention profit whewn a public utility essential service subsidised by the Australian people should not be about profit, rather service to we Australian En guete Australien!!!!

      • +2

China Post items are transferred to AustPost for the final delivery, so where is the hold up?

        • -1

          Ask tragic OzPost

Australia post is more reliable in Sydney than many of the courier companies within 10kms of the CBD. I would go with Aus post any day, over a courier company.

  • -2

Unionised to the hilt. Australia Post employees wouldn't work in an iron lung. Just compare with Amazon Dragonfly.

  • +1

Took 19days for 28deg Ccard to arrive from Melbourne. Rang day 16 so they cancelled original and sent replacement Express Post as l was going overseas….. arrive a week later, pony express post l think. Ridiculous.

  • +1

Tabitha must just twitch her nose. Maybe thats Sydney Post, rest of Australia sit and hope.

  • Nothing undue .Au post is always painfully slow.

  • Well that's my 10 for the day. Thanks OP!

As an update, my apologies to AusPost Finally found out the culprit is Australian Customs at Adelaide Airport
1 parcel they've had since 19.2.24 2 parcels since 22.2.24, and the NZ retailer says this is happening to thousands of its Australian customers Lets hope they dont destroy our non-disposable vapes as of tomorrow 1.3.24
