First Time in Bali Using ATM

Hi all, I have a trip coming up in April and trying to work most effective way to withdraw cash.
I have an Up and a Suncorp debit cards with no fees, but not sure about atm withdrawals.

The other option would be using a Wise debit card. I’m planning to convert to IDR on the go and then withdraw. Wise offers up to $350 withdrawal a month for free. Has anyone gone above that figure and if you did does it charge 2%?

Just use UP to withdraw from ATM. No fees. You can pay with your UP on cafe/restaurants / shopping malls too. So, dont worry too much.

    • You will still likely be charged ATM fees by the ATM owner, $2-$5 is pretty standard. The cheapest option is bringing AUD cash and then exchanging it but this is inconvenient and risky so I usually just withdraw from the ATM anyway.

I know BCA doesnt, so, i stick with BCA ATM, which is one of the big banks there

Just be aware that some machines return your card last, it’s easy to walk off with cash and receipt, but not the card.

also some machines eat your card. take a backup bank card. (I use macquarie to withdraw internationally as my main card)

    • Heck, with Macquarie you could take more than one debit card! (Can open more than one account)

    • Always a wise idea to have one MasterCard and one Visa. Apparently, unlike Australia where both are consistently accepted, that's not always the case.

  • Thanks guys, I’ll just do that then. I have Suncorp, UP and also Revolut

I have used Wise in Bali, changed AUD to IDR on the app, waited 30 seconds and then used the card in an ATM and it spat out the cash. Easy as pie and much better rate than doing it with one of the Aussie banks
