I have seen this mentioned in other posts, but I think it deserves a standalone post.

  • $10 to swap your empty Billy Bubbles cylinder for a full one
  • $20 to trade another brand (Sodastream/SodaKing) for a full Billy Bubbles cylinder
  • $25 to purchase a new full cylinder
  • $5 delivery fee

The delivery areas have been expanded to cover more of Melbourne.

For some people it makes sense to do a conversion to larger CO2 cylinders, but for me this is good enough (I find it cheaper and more convenient than swapping cylinders over the counter)

How it works

  • Select which night you’d like your bubbles delivered, then you leave your empty cylinders by the front door.
  • You’ll get an SMS with an ETA and then Billy Bubbles will swap your empty cylinders for full ones, kinda like a Milkman.
  • You’ll get another SMS to tell you that the delivery has been done and then you’re all systems go to enjoy some Bubbles.

      There's two that I know of. One is Bubbles, which used to be about $18-19 a canister with free delivery, but now they've changed their minimum order to 2 canisters at a time, and also added a $9 (I think) delivery charge. I'm now using The Gas Guyz, which is $19 with free delivery. This is for swap only, I don't know the price for new canisters. I'm in the Inner West in case that matters.

      Very handy for the 6kg CO2 swaps as those are a pain in the arse to do yourself. I use their 6kg and refill my own sodastream from those.

        My setup:

        6kg CO2 bottle (full) - $120
        6kg refill - $50
        Adaptor hose (1.8m) - $50

        6kg of CO2 lasts ages - I reckon 10-15c per Sodastream bottle

      This is worth mentioning too, no need to purchase the bottle just rent one. If you don't use a lot of gas then I guess it may not be worth it.

    Also worth mentioning: Billy Bubbles refills contain 450g of CO2, as opposed to sodastream's 400g. So ~12% more milage out of each refill.

    I bought a 6kg gas tank from Kegland and this hose and adapter. The hose goes directly in the back of the sodastream, no need to refill cylinders. Our usage was 2 Sodastream cylinders a week, and this 6kg tank lasts around 6 months. We take the tank to a local Kegland supplier who exchanges for around $60. Also, Kegland customer service is excellent.

      Also changed to this system with a 2.4kg tank. Lasts a really long time. In Sydney, i use gas guys to pickup and swap. Super easy

    Love Billy's Bubbles — has made it far cheaper to have a few cylinders on the go now, never run out.

    I wish something similar existed for Swap n Go gas bottles, my local Bunnings never has them in stock

      Try your local servo for Swap n Go. I think my servo on High St Northcote charge about $32.

      Billy Bubbles is great. We have 2 bottles on the go. Can normally run out of gas one evening and have the bottle replaced by midday the next day.

    Not bad for $10 refill. Cheapest in Sydney is around $20. 6kg cylinder refill works ok if you have the smaller size hole type canister, otherwise the normal s.stream canisters are a pain in the backside. To get max co2, need to chill the bottle in the freezer for a few hours, not at room temp.

    I don’t know how BB can honestly say it’s good for the environment, given 76% of global warming is from Co2 emissions. The footprint from s/stream co2 maybe small, but combine all carbonated beverages, maybe we stop drinking fizzy drinks altogether.

      I only use mine for sparkling water and I'm not giving that up as I've never consumed so much water and I'm never buying plastic single use bottles now, that's got to be good for the environment!
      Let's just plant more trees ;)
