Need to Buy a South Korea Sim Card - Leaving in 36 Hours

Update - was able to get the log on for my belong account and added 15 days international roaming with 3gb , sms and 90minute calls, for $30. Only need 12 days. This seems the most cost effective. Have installed Naver(maps) and pagago (translating). Apparently plenty of free public wifi and airbnbs have wifi. Was able to get an inexpensive esim via klook for my kids iPhone 11 ($22 for 15 days @ 1gb per day). Reasonable. I can always hotspot from their phone. I think I'm sorted now.

Thanks for the below suggestions.

oops. forgot to pre-order a sim card for South Korea and I leave in 36 hours.

There are options for pick up at Incheon Airport but they seem expensive i.e. ~$60 for 20 day.

my phone doesn't take e-sim.

I'm in Brisbane CBD tomorrow - is there a physical shop I can grab a cheaper sim from?

I've read mixed account of buying sims in korea - some travel sites say it is limited, others say convenience stores sell them.

do convenience stores sell sim cards?

I have a belong sim , but I got it years ago and my registered email address is long dead - so I'll call them tomorrow to ask about roaming - 3GB for $30 . not ideal data but airbnbs have wifi, and public wifi.

thank you for any advice suggestions for as inexpensive sim

The last time I had to buy a SIM card at Incheon Airport back in 2012.

Otherwise, have a look at Klook.com so see if there are options for pickup at the airport some of the sellers on their do next day pickup

I don’t think the local carrier stores like KT will sell a SIM card to you outside the airport

Try here, for collection at ICN:

or, bundled with a T Money travel card:
    https://www.getyourguide.com/seoul-l197/incheon-airport-trav…

Otherwise, just go to the LG U+ counter where it directs you to collect at ICN and ask. I'd be pretty confident that they would offer tourist SIMs.

Note this comment on the second link:

I really loved that the LG customer service lady was so helpful. She helped me change my SIM card and ensured that my phone worked on the new SIM card. It really reduced my anxiety as the last time, I signed up with Klook and my SIM card got messed up and I wandered around Seoul with no mobile data. No such experience this time around and I'm grateful to the LG customer service team at Incheon Airport. They rock.

So you should be fine OP. 안전한 여행 되세요!

    • Thank you

    • Yep, I didn't pre-order and just rocked up at the counter and bought one. There is a slight discount if you pre-order but it isn't necessary. They had a table with prices and inclusions in English stuck to the counter and the staff do everything including checking it works before you wander off.

  • Looks like a great time to go, very mild weather.

Although it's fun when the days get to -20.
