TP-Link Deco M5 Mesh - Cannot Connect to Internet

Hi ozbargain community,

Bought a M5 3 pack for my in-laws after being recommended here, but cant get it to work after trying several times to set it up.

They have got this nbn set up box so connected ethernet cable to it, follow the prompts from the app, manage to go all the way to set up the wifi, managed to find the deco but towards the end it cannot connect to the internet. Tried reseting it, use a different deco, all didnt work, so gave up. I used the default connection type - Dynamic

Anyone has the same problems or am I doing it wrongly?

  • Who is their ISP?

    • they are with IInet.. would it make any difference?

        Not all ISPs use Dynamic.

        iiNet use PPPoE for authentication. Select PPPoE and type in their iiNet username eg. [email protected] and password and a VLAN ID of 2 and VLAN priority of 0. Deco VLAN guide.

        • thanks that's what I thought I tried didnt work, maybe I got the username wrong. I will try again

            • @Twix: gosh I cant even remember I think I tried all sorts of method for like 20 times..

              just to confirm that the email has to be an @iinet.net.au email?

                @Ilovetoeat: Yep they should have an email with the account username.

  • I have the issue that after every two weeks, the internet would stop working, led showing red, so I have to keep on rebooting all 3 router, this is with iiNet. I had enough with having to reboot every 2 weeks, I'm done with this brand. I returned it to Amazon for a full refund.
