Just FYI.

My Netflix India account has been deactivated. I changed from Turkey to India 2 days ago, repaid the $12 subscription fee and now it's deactived.

    Safe to say the party is over

    Might look into stremio and rd

    • Yeah, screw Netflix. I only kept it going to share with my family. Hardly watch it anymore. Nasty company, never liked them after they kept blocking access to my account (full A$ price) on my Chinese TV box because they screw hardware providers for licencing fees on top of subscriber fees. The party is over Netflix. You're just another overpriced streamer. See ya.

  • same did u end up getting a refund?

    • No doing a chargeback

  • +5

    Same happened to me but with a nigeria vpn.. Thats fine will just stop watching netflix

  • Did you watch Netflix with the VPN on with India?

    Also did you use a card to transfer to India?

    • No, with a indian VPN active i would get all the indian netflix experience. I have always used a vpn to switch from Aus/US/Canada/ UK.

      Only when i signup i use the country VPN.

  • Rip, I didn't even move to india and I got kicked off, was on turkey

  • Thanks for the PSA!

  • Same thing here, originally in Turkey, switched to India last night and today subscription has been suspended.

    धन्यवाद

  • Even buying Aus netflix $6.99 plan today, im sharing with someone else in a different household and they have already found out its different IP address and made it difficult for us to share it. Netflix is getting so stingy

    • and made it difficult for us to share it.

      you need to take the device to the 'home' ip address at least every 30 days…

    • I was tempted to sub to the ad plan across two houses. What difficulty is there involved?

    • +4

      Actually if you look in the mirror you can see the stingy one.

      • +2

        I aint disagreeing. Thats why im on this site. I would say the same about you

        • i just checked the mirror, very stingy here too.

  • I am on India plan since last Nov. Still working.

    • How are you paying for it? debit card? credit card? If so which card? Gift cards? Where did you get it from?

      • +1

        Through a friend's UPI payment system. Its linked to local mobile number.

        • +6

          Yeah okay, that isn't something most of ozb have access to set up.

        • Do you use VPN?

    • wanna sell a slot or 2 :P?
      PM me.

  • Happened to me too, time to go back to sailing the seven seas

  • I think the trick is not to login to non portable devices such as smart TVs. Those who just have their Netflix India deactivated, did you watch Netflix from your TVs?

    See comment here.

    • Yea, we use Netflix on the TV. could be a reason but at this point, it safe to say, VPN method has been patched

    • 100% - wouldnt use it any other way. if i can't have netflix on my 75" google tv, defeats the purpose of netflix for me anyway.

    • OK I was wrong - was with Netflix Turkey previously for a couple of years, account cancelled on 26th Feb and on the same day I signed up for Netflix India Premium and paid via Revolut (about $12). Didn't login to any smart TVs, only my laptop and Android phone. All fine I thought, didn't watch anything until just now on my mobile phone for about 30 mins. Account immediately cancelled after an hour or so when I wanted to continue watching.

      Netflix is cracking down really hard.

  • Got kicked off Turkey too. Was good while it lasted!

  • -1

    My subscription was also ended - Turkey, and any attempts to resign up using Turkey, India, Pakistan or Egypt (the 4 cheapest) fail at the login point. Looks like my account has been disabled…EXCEPT, I can still use the same account to log in to sign up in AU (VPN off). I might wait 24 hours and retry.

    FYI - My account was billed monthly in Turkish lira, but I only every watched in AU.

    F**k netflix. My account cancelled again as well, no notification or refund. Not giving them any more money

  • Google Gemini summarised 3000 words of chat with the Netflix support agent - super frustrating. Let me know if someone wants the full transcript

    ~~~~~~~~~~
    It's clear that there's a frustrating discrepancy between what you, the user, expected from Netflix, and what Netflix's policies and system actions dictated. Here's a breakdown of the main areas of disagreement and confusion:
    Netflix's Definition of "Household"
    Your understanding: "Household" means people in a family unit, regardless of physical proximity.
    Netflix's evolving definition: A Netflix Household seems to primarily be defined by devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network, meaning everyone sharing an account must primarily be on the same network at the same physical location.
    The problem: Netflix's messaging has clearly been unclear. They use the term "household," leading to understandable assumptions on your part which their definition now contradicts. It seems there has been a recent policy shift which hasn't been communicated well to customers.
    Unusual Activity and Cancellation:
    Lack of warning: The cancellation of your account due to "unusual activity" seemed abrupt and without sufficient warning or opportunity to clarify your situation.
    Unclear definition: Netflix's definition of what constitutes "unusual activity" is vague. It's unclear how the company can justify canceling a subscription without further communication with the subscriber.
    Policy documentation: You are correct in requesting clear policy documentation on this. It appears Netflix either doesn't have a clear policy readily available on "unusual activity" or failed to communicate it transparently.
    Refund Policy:
    Passing responsibility: Netflix's suggestion to seek a refund from your bank for a cancellation they initiated is problematic. It places the burden on you rather than taking accountability for their decision.
    Gift cards: The fact that Netflix cannot provide refunds for gift cards, even with account termination initiated by them, seems like a questionable practice.
    Overall Customer Service
    Templated responses: The support agent's responses often felt repetitive and lacking in addressing the nuances of your concerns.
    Lack of empathy: There was little recognition of the frustration you were experiencing.
    Actions You Can Take
    Escalate: Ask to speak to a supervisor or someone higher up in Netflix customer support. Explain your situation calmly and reference specific points from the transcript where you believe policies were unclear or you weren't given fair warning.
    Consumer protection: Research consumer protection agencies in your region (India, in this case). Look into options for filing a formal complaint regarding Netflix's practices if you feel they are unfair or misleading.
    Publicity (Caution): While the threat of going public got the agent's attention, proceed with caution. It's advisable to exhaust customer service and formal complaint channels first before escalating to such measures.
    Important Notes
    Netflix may be undergoing internal policy changes, explaining the miscommunication on "household" and "unusual activity" definitions. It's a large company, so such shifts could take time to roll out smoothly.
    Companies can legally modify their terms of service, but they have an ethical obligation to communicate significant changes clearly and to customers in advance.
  • If anyone wants to be rid of netflix forever use this, it works pretty well
    https://www.reddit.com/r/StremioAddons/comments/yi5jdw/ultim…
  • My Turkish pricing account has been working fine for about a year, suddenly being told to re-subscribe despite having paid for the month, only works on one phone atm with every other device unable to access without subscribing to a secondary Australian sub, not sure if my service will attempt to recharge tomorrow for the next month as I can't even access my account settings with a VPN.
    Looks like Netflix is finally not worth it, I wouldn't have bothered if it hadn't been for how much K-Drama is watched by my gf, getting that content is a pain for Plex, which I already have a 52TB server with GPU etc & Gigabit NBN.
  • It’s been 1 week India Netflix. Payment by Revolut. NordVPN 24x7 in India. Using only in Amazon dongle. No cancellation yet.
    • +1
      NordVPN 24x7 in India.
      That is the reason
    I got deactivated today and that’s the final straw. Good bye Netflix, you now get $0 from me
