I know that this is a classic, has a great movement, 80 hour power reserve and blah blah the lineage blah blah blah cult status but my God do they look utterly bland and underwhelming for their price tag on both photos and videos.

I have nothing against field watches per se and I love pieces like the Seiko 5 PVD GMT.

But this piece just gives me a real "Vostok feel" in that it might be technically/horologically brilliant but it seems soulless and devoid of anything remarkable to make this watch stand out from the legions of like-minded field watches.

The only thing I dislike really (I am partial to a green watch and a traditional-looking field watch) is the size. If you are going to go that traditional route - what you might see as 'bland' - stick with a smaller size, IMO.

      Watches are so subjective though.

    • It’s all subjective bro. People like what they like. WR could be a bit sketchy.

It's all subjective but nothing wrong with Hamiltons. Great brand and history. Not many Swiss made watches are that cheap anymore. The sale price is pretty good, I wouldn't pay RRP for any watch (and Seiko RRP is laughable).

I'm not a fan of day and or date on a field watch, it ruins the symmetry and clean simple looks. Check out the khaki field mechanical (hand wind), super legible, thin and comfortable 38mm.

No watch is really perfect either, that Seiko is too thick and heavily reduced for a new release 🤔. No point buying anything just because it's cheap unless you are 100%.

  • Don't they use plastic parts in their movements?

  • This one is ETA C07.611 and no "plastic parts". As I understand, another version of the Powermatic 80 (ETA C07.111) does use some synthetic parts and is mostly used in Tissot watches.

"The calibre H-30 is based on the ETA C07.621, a Powermatic 80 family movement which is based on the ETA caliber 2836-2"

Warranty support is actually pretty good in Australia, even for grey market models. It's handled by Swatch Group who own Hamilton. I got a grey market import Khaki Field from ebay years ago and it got moisture under the crystal on a humid day.
Contacted Hamilton who said go to Swatch. Took watch into Swatch and they confirmed all seals were perished and inside watch was corroded, new movement required and new hands and crown as well.
$55 to replace the lot and came with a new 2 year warranty on all parts replaced. Can't be upset with that but YMMV.
