Cheaper Comprehensive Car Insurance

Auspost last year $4xx, now $900, almost doubled,

Tried budget, AAMI and also Auspost almost the same cost, but if I choose a new policy with Auspost there is Shopback cashback of 11%. Bingle 14xx

Any more choices?

Car value is just $13K.

  • How often do you claim? I stick to NRMA…

      I stick to NRMA…

      Velcro?

    • twice in 10 years

just do a quote with all of them.. woolworths, youi, racv etc etc

Try Shannons. They ended up being quite cheaper than NRMA whilst offering a higher agreed value for both my 2015 Honda HRV and 2012 Subaru XV.

    • I've put an at fault claim through Shannons, and it was easy and well handled… Highly recommend.

    • Do you have enthusiast vehicles with them as well?

      • +1

None, just the two with them. But you have to be a vehicle enthusiest to purchase (they ask questions)

        • Yes I know I've had insurance with shannons, which is why I was curious.

    • Shannons quotes seem to come down to whoever it is you're talking to on the day, i've had some great quotes from them and some absolute shockers as well.

There's more to a policy than it's upfront price. Just make sure you know what you're actually getting for your money.

  • QBE was the cheapest last year. This year it's AAMI. Next year? Just shop around

    • agree. AAMI was lowest for me.

Just bought one for $900 for more than 3x your car value, OP.

  • Are you prone to car accidents? Do you really need a comprehensive car insurance for a car that's valued at $13K?

    • +2

If you cant afford to live without the car or lose $13k if someone else writes off your car and cant or wont pay you need to have comprehensive.

Only drop back to TPP if you can manage without the car or afford to replace it quickly from spare cash.

    • I did. Came in handy as car got written off and got paid out $13K. I mainly have it so I don't have to stuff around chasing up the other party

  • We're with RAA. Never a problem, membership and multi policy discounts and options like rental car.

    • RAA $580/month……………….

  • It might be worth looking at Stella insurance. They're the cheapest I could find for me and last year when I had to submit a claim I had no issues.

  • AAMI

  • You can significantly lower the premium by bumping up the excess, reducing the agreed value or switching to market value. This obviously means you won’t get as much if you make a claim, but insurance is always a balance between risk and cost. Pick your poison. I have my excess at $2k and an agreed value around market value based on actual selling prices on carsales (I prefer this over insurer's market value).

    • Agreed. My excess is $1.5k. Set it to market value. In the current market, you can argue that finding a similar replacement will cost $xx if you are not happy with insurance assessors valuation.

  • Huddle gone from 550 > 700 but still seems the cheapest by far
    2006 outback $10k per year

why didn't anyone mention Bingle when it come to cheap insurance :)

How about ROLLiN' Insurance? I tried taking quotes from many providers all are way expensive, can't beat ROLLiN.

    • Seconded. Still struggle to beat Rollin'. It's aimed at young people so has an annoying brand voice, and any business use results in being forced into their annoying driver app, with a 15% 'discount' for good driving (including riding buses, ferries and pedal bikes), but it's backed by IAG, so less stressful than Bingle or Budget Direct, and offers potentially higher insured value for your car.
