        • thanks for that, i just went back now and it is showing as your image does, weird.

      • +3

The screen momentarily shows as $1,699.98 then applies the discount, your browser must either not be refreshing or blocking an api call to get the discount.

        • -3

i went to check it again, and within a second it changed, weird even after hard refresh it did show.

        • Yeah I think that's what happened for him, there's a delay until it updates to $1,299.98

  • +2

    Good price, cheaper than C3

    • Yep just no TV features apparently.

      • Just Smart TV or is there other features?

        • +1

From my quick 2 seconds search, I believe it's just the smart TV side of things.

Which probably means there'll be a slight difference in quality when you use other sources/devices to stream shows etc, as usually with higher end TV, their native apps offer the best processing/upscaling.

      • +1

        Which is good.

        • +3

yeah for me the worst part about c2/c3 is that its a tv.

      • On the plus side it has DisplayPort, so if you're an AMD user on Linux, you aren't limited by the HDMI Forum's hostile stance on open source gpu drivers.

  • Nice

  • Ok, so this or a different OLED monitor?

    • +1

Can wait a bit longer to see how low the 32inch models can go on sale for.

      • +1

You'll be waiting a while, right now they're what, over 2K?

    • I bought PG42UQ over this a year ago because it lets you disable the auto dimming, but it is significantly more expensive

  • is such a screen really good for gaming? I feel my neck will hurt a lot

    • +2

amazing for gaming but you need a big desk as you need to sit further back than smaller sized monitors

    • +4

Basically would use it as a TV not a monitor, good for couch gaming with controller and media use etc. not great for work

      • +3

2nd this - I’ve been running a 48” CX for a few years and love it, but it’s not for everyone.

“Couch controller games” for lack of a better description like adventure games or racing where you sit back a bit and have a wide view, it’s brilliant and you don’t need a separate TV. Also 4K HDR on an oled is absolutely stunning for visual heavy titles. More of a trade off for more focused/competitive games like FPS or Strategy because they’re really not designed for that sort of field of view (also 4K HDR is never going to get high framerates). So really depends on what you’re into.

For work, the size may or may not work for you (great for huge spreadsheets) and it can be set up as effectively 4 x 24” FHD but I think OLED is the wrong choice here. Higher risk of burn in with desktop windows, pixel shifting is noticeable and annoying and same for the mediocre white levels and auto brightness limiter. You’re really playing to its weaknesses here.

        • The latest firmware update solves the white levels and auto-brightness limiter issues.

        • That's a good write up I'll likely be getting something this size MiniLED or the LG C3 in the future for exactly those reasons. I mainly play games with controller and any FPS I play casually anyway so controller is fine, I don't play any competitive FPS. I play league though which I'll just continue to use a laptop for I couldn't imagine playing with kbm for FPS or Mobas on such a huge screen. Media use would be the only other reason I would use it to avoid burn in but that's why I'm considering miniLED so I don't have to worry about the issue altogether. I use Photoshop for basic shirt designs so I could imagine that wouldn't be too bad using on a screen this big might actually be a plus but if I was working from it for extended periods I could see eye strain becoming an issue even if you don't have to move your neck.

          • @lookingforadeal7: I don't see the C3 48" ever coming close this price before they're gone (if they're still available actually). You might be better off going for this. I don't think any MiniLED you can get at this price is worth the quality difference.

            • @Tbargain12: Was thinking more the 42" for $1300~. This definitely seems like a steal because of the size and also better response times to the C3 although that wouldn't really matter but I have no need for it right now, only issue is burn in with OLED I could see Photoshop being a terrible program for it. I would have to get a 50" TCL or the likes, I won't be using the smart TV functions at all so won't matter to me if it's slow but hopefully something better comes out in the mean time

              • @lookingforadeal7: That's fair, if you are happy to sacrifice OLED response time for miniLED performance and worse colours and HDR, then yeah miniLED is good for not worrying about burn-in. I'm probably just going to get one of those new 27" QD-OLEDs that are out and will be using it for heavy work and game.

          • +1

@lookingforadeal7: FWIW I play COD at the desk with M/KB with no issues and I think I perform a bit better even, the good thing about a large screen is that you can turn up the fov to get more peripheral vision. Haven't tried to play CS or league though.

            • @cheng2008: I'm terrible at shooters with M/KB anyway but that's good to know, playing league on my 32 inch was a bit disorientating for me but got used to it although definitely would cause eye strain just due to always having to shift focus in game.

    • I have a similar 48 OLED and I was a little dizzy at first during gaming due to the size, but it's fine after a week. No neck pain. I sit about 1m away.

    • I have a wall mounted 43 inch monitor with a desk depth of 60cm. Even that is too big for FPS games where I'm leaned up against the desk.

      • I have that and love it

  • What about for non-gamers? Should non-gamers consider gaming monitors like this if they just really want a extra big HQ monitor?

    • +1

For media yes, for work use each to their own but I couldn't imagine being productive and swinging my neck around all day

      • Yeh I will be doing media work, so that will be good. Currently on 2 monitors so I'm thinking the neck swinging might be comparable to that? Hopefully.

        • +3

OLED has burn-in issues, if your work involves having a single app or 2 open all day (with static toolbars, etc), it's not recommended as you will see visible burn-in eventually.

          • @AustralianCyber: @AustralianCyber Yes, I'll most likely have a browser window just open sitting in the corner most of the day. That sounds like it'll be an issue.

Which type of monitors would be best then instead of OLED?

            • +2

@Devil: IPS would be the next best after OLED, generally speaking.

              • @Seisei: Thanks @Seisei! Will see what they got in IPS similar to this.

    • +2

Something else to consider is whether you're on windows or MacOS. Windows sucks at text rendering on this OLED screen. Even with the fix it's still comparably worse that MacOS.

      • I'm on a Mac, so that's a good thing then, but no thunderbolt port, so looks like I'll have to use the DP port I think for an M1 Mac.

Not sure how much quality I'll lose from that.

      • So the dell 48" is still better for a business monitor re text. I was wondering.

    • When I worked in PMO my 48 Aorus OLED was truly amazing for spreadsheets

  • 38" would be perfect

    • +1

No 38" oleds on any roadmaps unfortunately.

45" 5120 x 2160 planned for early next year, 39" of the same res a year later so 2026. https://youtu.be/vSIEQYMjpQ4?t=864

Newest 38" out there is the newish IPS black based panel.

    • Size matters 😂

  • I have this monitor already sitting on a desk I built. It's about 30" away from me. Perfect for gaming, no eye or neck strain and fully immersive. Highly recommended.

  • Anyone care to state the (minor?) differences between this and the same size C3??

Does this have better power-off / sleep options for windows etc? Less likelihood of burn-in somehow and so on? Better/worse HDR?

    • +1

Unsure first hand, but based on the Rtings review compared to the C1/C2 the major takeaways are:
Similar panel performance as the C1/C2 so theoretically the C3 evo would be a bit brighter again
Matte finish to the screen, so better for reflections but less clarity
Lower SDR brightness (got marked down pretty heavily here actually) and slightly lower HDR brightness
DisplayPort and potentially 138Hz(?) refresh rate
Slightly higher response time (weird) but slightly lower input lag
No OS or TV functions (duh)

All in all I’d say the C3 is likely the better unit in most scenarios but price is obviously a factor.

      • Thanks.

I think i might hodl for C3 deals, however for this money you'll only get the 42inch C3 I suspect. That said, 48" on my desk is likel;y a bit crazy large

        • I had my 48CX on a 60cm desk for a couple of years and it was always a little uncomfortably close until I leaned back with a controller for example. I finally upgraded to an 80cm deep desk and it’s just right (still big). For a 60cm desk, 42” is probably about right, but it would lose some its dual/quad screen perks.

  • Really considering this as a possible TV replacement for C3 as I don't see the 48" is available any time soon, and or not at this price. Pair it with my Nvidia Shield for all the streaming needs.

  • Has anyone done a firsthand comparison of this to the CX-1-2-3? I have a CX in a bright room and the glare is a killer, was wondering if this might be better.

  • Got 1 from last black friday. I can confirm it does not feel too big as you might think when use it on the normal working table. I get use to quickly and feel very comfortable. Great price for the unit. I might get another one at this price.

  • Awesome - thank you - been watching and waiting for this to drop!

    $300 waiting room

  • does membership cost anything?

  • +1

    Anyone used this for programming/coding?

I'm currently using a 34" Xiaomi ultra wide for working & gaming. I'd like to go sharper with 4K if possible.

    • 110 vs 92 PPI, your xiaomi is sharper.

  • If this deal comes up again I would like to know as I would like to get one of these.
