These are trash. Get the Ryobi instead.

  • Just put up two TVs last week.
Used a magnet and found the studs quite easily

  • Sorry to say, this price range gives garbage. I used one during a reno, tried mapping a few walls. Even knowing most of what's in there, and how to find it (25yrs experience), mapping on the wall with masking tape & marker… It still have BS answers, and struggled to give repeat it's own findings, or find what I knew to be fact. Worse than not having one.
Unless you really need one, and you're willing to buy a real one… This will screw you over.

  • Agree with the majority here. These are super trash

  • Looks like the product is garbage, as per comments. Don’t know why people are up voting.

    • I was told multiple times (even by moderators) that deals should not be voted based on the quality of the product, but if it is a bargain (e.g. discounted by x%, there is a better price elsewhere…).

  • I’ve got a bigger one and it still works surprisingly well. Just whipped it out and went off on the right spot, gee it’s good.

    • I’ve got the in between model and it works well enough. It’s not bullet proof but I can make it work very well.
It surprises me that so many cannot get it to work at all.

    • I have this model too, it's too big though. Stud finders need a relatively flat, smooth surface to work on. It really depends on the spot you are working on. You have to assume that you don't really know what lies beneath the surface that you are going to drill into. A more compact model the better, it can be used in narrow, difficult locations. It takes me a few test runs before I make the "final" decision to pull the trigger!

  • Went to Bunnings and the guy recommended Ryobi Stud Finder (with AC Detection). Said that all the trades people buy this and has to be constantly restocked.

  • These are deffinately defective, not only can't find studs in the wall it keeps writing letters to eminem.

Useless. Hate it. Buy anything else.

  • I have one of these and would not recommend it. It usually finds studs but as others have said not repeatable and leaves you questioning what you're about to do. The AC finder is way too sensitive and lights up within 20 cm of a wire which is not accurate enough to really guide you safely.

Hello is it me your looking for?

  • I bought a Franklin T9 at Bunnings, used it for heaps of reno jobs and they just worked every times. Lending it to a few of my friends and they all confirm the same. They can only detect stud though, no electric wires.

  • I had this in my pocket and it kept going off…

  • Stanley is a good brand. However, I bought one of their stud finders. It turns out that my wall is full of live wires….LOL
Don't buy this one. It's a waste of money.

  • Absolute junk, do not buy even if $1.

Does not work at all and will just frustrate you.

Only stud finder to own is a Franklin. They aren't cheap (wait till you find one on sale), but work 100%. I can't stress how much they are worth it.

    • Which model do you recommend?

I just checked as I wasn't 100% sure. I own the ProSensor 710+ (with the bubble level on it). I baulked at the price when I first purchased it, but the stress it's saved me in the years I've owned it has been worth it. It just works mate… every single time. The lights light up where there's a stud, and I never miss.

Wait for it to go on sale if need be, but I got sick and tired of buying Bunnings junk that never worked properly.

One of my favourite tools to use because I know it works, no questions. Sorry to crap on your post… but seriously Stanley have stuck their once good name on this crap and it's not worth a cent.

No offence taken, constructive comments are always appreciated, and yours always are. I'll setup a price alert for the ProSensor 710+. If the Stanley is rubbish Amazon has easy returns. I'm only putting up some shelves and a couple of TV brackets, and I'll double check using disc magnets to locate nail heads to confirm stud locations.

  • Anyone have experience with the Ryobi stud finder from Bunnings? Looking to upgrade from my annoying Stanley beeper
