Why do we get again highly inflated prices here - too many roborock fanbois?

Currently on sale for 949EUR in Germany: saturn/mediamarkt (the official resellers for roborock Germany)
That's $1,568 (incl 19% German GST not 10%) - effectively, $1317.64 vs $1999.09 net. Hope there are some non-RRP deals coming up soon.

      Danke

      Ich bin ein Berliner!

    • I'm confused. If I do a Euro to AUD conversion 949 euros is 1567 AUD. What exchange rate are you exchanging at to get 1317 (less the german tax)?

      • Yep, $1,568 incl 19% German GST and ~$1317.64 net (without the 19% GST),

        • So you think 1 euro gets you $1.40 AUD?

          • @MrMoo: not sure why it's so confusing..

949EUR is $1,568 AUD (current exchange rate 1EUR:1.65AUD).

The remaining amounts are all net calculations for comparison, excluding GST.
            So, $1317.64 (= $1,568 / 1.19 to get the German net) vs $1999.09 (= $2,199 / 1.1 to get the roborock.com.au or amazon.com.au net price).

Also, suggest people look at the Narwall Freo X Ultra. Same/similar price, way way better machine.

    • But you can’t get it here though. Right?

    • why and how, would like to know?

      • +1

TL;DR - Far better mapping. Best mopping ability with tail swing. Pressure mopping. Self Cleaning (that works). Industry best Anti Tangle brush. Have a watch of a few reviews. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAjguAvX3rM

No horse in the race. Simply have used and returned a number of robo vacs. This one exceeds everything else by such a margin.

        • Have you used one? I've seen a number of video reviews, all of them are positive. But most of them are linked to Narwal. And, for some reason, I haven't seen them in ratings like Best robo vacs 2023 or so.

          • +1

@Cupa Bundy Drinker: Replied more indepth below.

Remember, whilst they def smash Youtube reviews, most are gifted the device and not paid. Whereas a lot of "2024 Best Robo Vacs" articles are heavily paid. For example, I know PCMAG charge anywhere from $10k to $80k to place and obviously weirdly the people paying more rate higher :/

I tend to watch more reputable reviewers who will still be bought but at least cover the flaws. Theres a good few done already.

    • +1

How can you call it the better machine? Its too early to tell with paid reviews.

      • +2

So, comparing these as similar (Narwal is actually cheaper right now).

        POSITIVES
        - Narwal suction is 16% stronger than the Roborock
        - Narwal mopping pressure is between 33% to 17% (floor type) stronger
        - Cleaning on all Narwal products in the past from real world experience is way better
        - Roborock app and mapping is terrible. Every version. Ever. Its better than say, the Dyson which was the worst.
        - Narwal Anti Tangle works. If you have pets or people with long hair, this is amazing.
        - Narwal mops lift higher when on carpet
        - Watch unpaid reviews on both their apps - Narwals is superior, in features, usability and mapping
        - To date - Roborocks AI is average - shown in reviews. It misses things, bangs into things and has issues avoiding lips. Narwals is better. Still not perfect, none are. But better.

        NEGATIVES
        - Parts are a bit pricier and harder to get than Roborock and others
        - Home Assistant - this is my biggest gripe and almost deal breaker. Narwal integrates into Alexa, Google & Siri commands. But not into Home Assistant. And a closed/encrypted API as well and their pretty resolute on not answering/supporting an open API.

I've worked around the HA issue by hacking some HA automations then to trigger Alexa routines. So will do 90% in HA then tell Alexa to tell Narwal to clean. But I don't like cloud reliance on automations and not being native in HA.

As I said, no horse in the race. Owned Dreame, Roborock, Roomba, Narwal, Dyson. This Narwall is infinitely better than them all. I haven't compared direct with this model of Roborock but going on specs and same app/AI, its worse.

        • The thing that bugs me with Narwal is the lack of bags/emptying… seems like it'll be a bit more maintenance. Also I have concerns about navigation and obstacle avoidance.

          • @GuniGuGu: I've used the tub not the bags. It compacts it and apparently you get 7 weeks (So the same as the external bin on the Roborock). Reality is I emptied it at 3 weeks and was maybe 2/3 full. But then again maybe that was due to it being much better suction than what was before it.

Either way, its now more/less effort and frequent than a storage bin in the base. The roborock one this replaced constantly blocked/got dirty/failed to suck out and empty. Hope this newer roborock has fixed that.

If navigation/obstacle avoidance is a concern, do not get Roborock! Its below average at this and the app has had many reported and documented issues. Don't care if you get a Narwal either, but if thats a core concern, Roborock and Dyson should be off your list haha

And agree on paid reviews. But a lot of those smaller ones don't get paid, they get product when it's worth $2k. But still, always take with a grain of salt. None mention the lack of Home Assistant for it. That I found elsewhere. But it is the best of 7 i've used for cleaning. Mopping especially.

            • @mxlmxlmxl: @mxlmxlmxl I'm going to keep hitting you up with questions, since you're in the know :)
On obstacle avoidance, I was thinking about the newer MaxV Roborocks with Cameras. I did watch a sponsored review of the freo ultra and I saw it completely go over dog poop and a cable. So it didn't look that great.

I'm not too fussed about lack of home assistant, but do you know if I can command them with google assistant to clean a specific room? - like kitchen?

              • @GuniGuGu: Yeah, the lack of camera is a thing. However, the Roborock S6 MaxV I had (with cameras) was no better at all than lidar one it replaced.

I haven't played with that. But I don't think so. You can in app, but haven't seen a way. I'll have to try later. That may be another negative coming.

One thing, Costcos returns are fantastic… So always an option to trial it haha

                • @mxlmxlmxl: @mxlmxlmxl hmm.. tempting, the Freo Ultra doesn't have any cameras either though does it? I think from my research cameras make a difference in obstacle avoidance.

        • Damn, no HA plugin?

          Im running HOOBS.

Also, do you know if you can ask it to onlu use the floor cleaner at certain times? Hoping hot water mopping is good enough for most uses. The floor cleaner is riduculously priced!

          • @ozchobie: Nope, no HA. Annoying. I also don't think it will change. I've got ti sort of working in a way that I'm happy with.

You can choose when to use the cleaner. However, do at own risk as I'm doing it but probably not good for warranty, I opened the bottle to see the thickness of the liquid. I'll be able to refill the bottle and so won't be buying their ones haha.

        • No HA is a bit dissapointing. Not a deal breaker, our current vacuum is in HA but I don't really use it as its on its own schedule every day.

          • @xtommyk: For me, it was out of home automations. I have a number of FP2 presence sensors and also a "leaving home" automation to close/lock/turn off things. I then also used this to trigger an automation to go clean rooms, on a round-robin process when we left.

Now, doing a basic if this then that using Alexa (Also Trying Siri shortcuts) to basically tell it to clean because we've left. Works but no round-robbin more a whole clean each time.

            • @mxlmxlmxl: What do you mean on a round robin process? Room by room?
Unfortunately I can't bank on ecovacs mapping to seperate rooms

              • @xtommyk: Yeah, so the device it replaced, I'd set up each room/named. It had great HA integration.

Short version, was an automation with lots of checks. When check presence sensors after X time to see if everyone's left. Then, clean room 1, unless it was cleaned within last 48 hours. Then, clean room 2, unless…. then room 3, unless.

With some "But always clean main living area. Also, mop if not mopped within last 96 hours.

It worked amazingly. House always clean (without overcleaning it) and was 90%. It had routines as well for when people too:

If people, check Room 1 is empty, if it is and has been for more than 30 minutes, clean it, unless done in last 48hrs. Repeat again.

                • @mxlmxlmxl: Yeah thats actually pretty efficient.. What did you have previously?

      • +1

I just want to say…… FUK SOOOOO MANY PAID reviews!! and it's so god damn obvious! Im sooooo sick of them!

    • How is it way better?

      • +1

        Replied above :)

  • Can you buy a global version from Roborock directly?

  • Interested in getting one but how much better is it than the current Q Revo that was one sale for around $1250 from jb recently?

    • +2

I believe the big part is the V part. Being camera usage rather than sensors for object detection which was the downside to the non V model

    • there is a video out there to compare on YT
It just much better at going around small items like socks for example.
Apart from the it cleans the same

    • I'm trying to understand why the price for the Q Revo has now jumped to $1.7K - $2K RRP since the start of the month with this new model on the horizon next month…

  • We bought a Roborock 7 maxv ultra for $2k from David Jones. I'd wait.

  • Any deal post that starts with

    Not the greatest deal

is going to have a hard time getting upvotes.

  • Tempted to jump on this, desperately need a robovac with mopping… was waiting for the S8 MaxV
