PSA: Melbourne Airport Grace Period Has Reduced to 15 Mins for 4hr (or Lower) Booking Slots

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/390272 was great while it lasted (1 hour grace on each side). Then it turned into https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/810421 (30 min grace on each side). Now it's only 15 minn on each side for bookings of 4 hours or less

Booking under 4 hours

7.6. For an online booking for less than 4 hours, you may arrive up to 15 minutes before your booked entry time. If you arrive any earlier than 15 minutes before your booked entry time, you will be charged at drive-up rates (noting that these rates may vary from the rates quoted via the online booking system) and you will not be entitled to a refund or credit on those charges. 7.10. For an online booking for less than 4 hours, there is a 15-minute grace period for exit after your booked exit time. If you exit more than 15 minutes after your booked exit time, you will be charged for the time beyond 15 minutes after your booked exit time at Melbourne Airport’s Overstay Tariff Car Park rates (noting that these rates may vary from the rates quoted via the online booking system) and you may not be entitled to a refund or credit on those charges.   Last time which was 2 weeks ago, I paid $12 for 3 hours for 1 hour each side grace. Now it is $24 for 15 minutes grace.

  You are now being asked to pay $34 for 4 hours and you'll get extra 2 hours grace.

  I think someone needs to report this to ACCC. Clearly abuse of monopoly.

  This PSA is more damaging than useful.

  Does OP confirm this? Because the T&C has always said overwise compared to reality.

    The T&C used to say 1 hour grace on each side. Now it says 15 mins. When you rock up with your car, be sure to mention that the ozbargain opinions overrule their T&C. I literally just returned from the airport, hoping to pay $8 for 150 mins of parking. Instead I paid $24.

      Were you charged extra when you parked beyond the allowed time? Or are is this PSA purely based on the t&c text. Coz it is a different message if we know the new ruleset is being enforced rather than speculation.

      I wonder if theres anyone who has overstayed and got charged as they tested these new limits… now that would be a useful data point.

  Lazy people paying lazy taxes.

  My family lives in Melb - So what we do …
  They drop me in drop-off area, then family drive to a certain area alittle down road.

  Family then walks 10 mins … And spends as long as they like waiting with me for plane … 100% free.

  Unsure why the NEG.

  Perhaps said person - may think I am outing a secret ???
  Although I didn't mention specific area - you'll have to find that out for yourself (+ be aware some areas airport has erected signs : RE: fines for no parking).

  Family lives in suburb 15 mins drive from airport.
  Alot of locals + Italian born ppl living in area are aware of this airport parking "hack" - (it was a local who mentioned this to us some years ago).

  I visit Melbourne 2-3 times a year … and we still do this every time we go to the airport.

    I didn't neg you but saying "I know a secret spot but I won't share but you're all lazy" isn't going to make you any friends. Maybe tell us what the spot is or just enjoy it while it lasts.

  This PSA has been changed for more than a year but the trick still works with 1 hour each side

  Did Op read the https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/810421 at all before posting?

  Ozb members continue to update their tests in that thread.

  Confirmed today 04/04/2024

  Booked Entrance: 1:30pm. Entered funnily enough 1:30pm. So no proof of no further charge up to one hour earlier arrival.
  Booked Exit: 2:30pm. Actual exit 3:02pm. No further tax invoice issued. Will check credit card but I am sure it will be nothing.

  So looks like the old grace period still applies.
