Laptop for Gaming/Content Creation - Budget $3,500

My laptop died looking for an upgrade.

Leaning towards an Asus Rog Strix G16 with i9, 16gb ram (upgradeable to 32gb) and a RTX 4070 graphics card only 512gb storage but I'm ok with an external hard drive. Honestly not sure what way to go so wanting some recommendations.

I am buying a Samsung tablet for sketching so touch screen on the laptop is not necessary. I'm way out of my depth so would love some help. I'm using it mostly for laid back gaming and content creation for my small business. $3.5k is my max budget but I'd prefer around $3k.

  • How much for that ROG strix laptop?

    • $3199

      • That is crazy overpriced, you can get a laptop with a RTX 4060 for $1100. At that price point I don't care if it's made out of titanium and weighs 500g, a 4060 is terrible value for that much money.

Does it need to be a laptop? Really consider a desktop as value is so much better than gaming laptops.

And consider if you really need such a high budget? What specifically is your use case (gaming/content creation)?

Look here for past gaming laptop deals

        • i made a mistake its a 4070 I'm not sure if that changes anything, mainly basic video editing and photo editing using adobe illustrator, photoshop, lightroom etc. for my small business. game wise I'm not sure I am wanting to get more into PC gaming (my last laptop could barely handle modded Minecraft (vault hunters minecraft) so I have neglected the area of pc gaming and want whatever the best for my budget is to open up what i can play. it does need to be a laptop so i can move around and i need it at my workspace, potentially with clients (embroidery design) and at home.

          • @Silkybear: What was your old laptop and how limiting was it for work? The specs you're listing sound massive overkill, I'd be buying a macbook air or a cheap laptop for work and a <$1k gaming desktop for home, unless you're making an absolute killing on your small business.

            • @freefall101: It was a hp pavilion (2020) it couldnt handle the new embroidery software well at all and would become slow and crash programs or wait ages for a reponse (it went completely black last week the repair guy said a chip fried better off buying a new one). Im not willing to move away from windows, i need laptop that will run the software without becoming sluggish. If i just worked from home or a set office id buy a desktop but i need portability to fet to clients. Im using a Samsung tablet for minor jobs that dont need my main software. But more complex designs (anything that isnt basic lettering) needs the more demanding program and need minor tweaks on the go to account for different materials.

The embroidery software recommendeds 16gb ram minimum, Support for Highest Color (32bit) 2560 x 1440 or higher and 3D Acceleration is recommended for better user experience, min 60gb free disk space, intel i7 or amd ryzen7000 (or higher)

That being said id prefer i9 or ryzen9 and 32gb ram as above is just minimums and id like to keep a laptop as long as possible and id like to use it for games too

    $2399 and cashback

  • Does it need to be a Windows laptop? You can get the Macbook M3 Pro for 3499, its expensive but it will outlive pretty much all windows devices, they have a great screen, battery life and awesome speakers.

EDIT: Whoops missed the gaming in the title, I wouldn't recommend a Macbook then.
