There's a 13% casback on Cashrewards at the time of posting this deal which bring price to around 2100 which is decent imo - good screen, 32gb ram, 1tb, 4070, decent cooling, advanced optimus. Ryzen 8845hs seem to fix 7840hs idle power draw problem (?).

    Put price in title.

      Or anywhere at all even.

  • +3

    Tell em the price son

  • +1

I think the specs for this laptop is actually decent.

    • +2

It looks good, but worth checking to see if Lenovo have disabled some features of the CPU:

      https://github.com/amd/RyzenAI-SW/issues/18

They have been disabling CPU/GPU/AI features in the non-ThinkPad lines. They did it with this CPU on gen 8 of this model.

  • $2100 I like this deal!

  • +1

I want the 14 but with this CPU

    • there's the xiaoxin pro laptop instead… no dgpu tho

    • Yea im still on a fence on that one. The 14 inch has oled screen but sadly no Gsync. Lowest price after cashback was around 1800 iirc.

      • +1

if not after a gaming laptop, the ideapad pro 5i has oled/core 7 ultra / 84w battery/32gb ram/512gb ssd for $1705 (less cashback, totals around $1500).

Pulled trigger on that one after considernig a slim5 14" and the xiaoxin.

        • why that one. … why not xiaoxin

          • @AndrewMTG: No warranty for xiaoxin model bought from Aliexpress (?)

          • @AndrewMTG: yeah i think given my luck with ocnsumer goods lately (airfryer, washing machine, fridge, phone) warranties saved my butt more than a few times. also the xiaoxin might incur import duties (unclear) which would make it $1500 anyway.

if you treat the CPU as equivalent, and ok with a downrgade from 1tb to 512gb, this is the same thing pretty much

      • So many laptop screens don't have gsync, it's disappointing.

        • Iirc, it has oled screen and not many oled screen has Gsync back then. The upcoming oled laptops from all brands prolly have Gsync now.

Let's hope 4070 laptops will drop below $2k by EOFY sale

    • I'm really looking for a Legion slim 5 4060 around $1300 after cashback.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…… a man can only dream.

  • +5

Awesome price for a solid mid end rig, neglible upgrade over last gen, but thats on Nvidia & AMD. Note that 4070 now gets unlocked voltage from 0.925v to 0.985v, provides that little bit more performance gain over 2023 skus.

Only thing one might need to be wary of is that the Slim 5/5i is not slim or portable in the least. It is slightly better, compared to the Legion Pro 5/5i, but compared to the Legion Slim 7/7i, or competitor machines - like the Zephyrus lineup, this is definitely among the least portable of them.

At least you are getting solid battery life for a gaming laptop, 80wh isnt the biggest though for a 16'.

    • Note that 4070 now gets unlocked voltage from 0.925v to 0.985v

Where did you get this info from? I would assume they are still capped at <100w during gaming though.

      • Reviews are fully out in China for more than a month now. New legions, TUFs, tongfang rebrands etc, as long as its the 2024 variant.

More than 100w, but this will depend on workload. Doesn’t matter much since the slim is rated for 140w tdp and can take the wattage comfortably.

        • Got any links of a review of this specific Gen 9 version? Seem to be none at the moment.

          • @rski: No reviews are up for the Slim 5 (R7000P), I am guessing because unlike the Slim 5i (Y7000P) - the AMD sku didnt saw cooling/chassis updates and the little spec change wasnt worth a look at.

New Slim 5i gets the H55 chips, with the intel hybrid hyperbaric flow architecture - back exhausts only, no side ones, but flipped fan orientation, different airflow style compared to a traditional gaming lappy - blow through style.

Did you compare with this - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/836414? Any preference on which one is better value?

    • +1

One's a 14.5", one's a 16" so substantial difference in size and thus portability. Would prefer this one due to better specs if gaming was a key factor, but the other one if I was constantly moving it around.

    • +1

That deal is expired i think. It lowest of all time was around 1800 after cashback. I would say if you value competitive gaming, this one is better because Gsync. Else the 14 inch is a good choice.

    • +1

I like the larger screen, numpad and better GPU with this deal. Particularly with the cashback offered here too.

  • What about this one? Looks fairly similar in terms of spec.
    https://www.mwave.com.au/product/gigabyte-aorus-15-156-qhd-1…

    • No advanced optimus on that and better battery life on the Lenovo with AMD cpu.

  • I wonder if these have the same sleep issue/coil wine as the gen 8 Legions. Also if anyone has one of these Gen 9 Slim 5's, is it the same as the Gen 8 where one type C display port connects directly to the iGPU?

  • no ram upgrade?

  • $99 to upgrade 1yr courier/carryin to 3yr onsite is actually reasonable. ~$2159 after cashback with this option.

    • +1

I'd probably go with the 2 year. If nothing has happened by then it's probably gonna last.

  • serious question how come people get the warranties is it just to save a little time? Normally tell them ACCC rules around the laptop should last a reasonable time and they end up fixing it

    • Courts haven't provided any definitive ruling on what a reasonable time is, legislation (ACL) just says "reasonably durable" from memory.

Things like phones are pretty clear cut in the sense that you'd expect it to last at least as long as it will take to pay off (if you get it on a plan).

Appliances vary incredibly in quality and price too.

Some people prefer the convenience and certainty of the cover, others like me are happy to argue.

    • I’m with you usually. I only pay for wty if it’s quite cheap and offers extra level of service not req’d by ACL. I have relied on Lenovo and Dell premium wty and they are great. They send you the new unit then give you a few weeks to send back the old one.

  • Probably shouldn't buy the slim version because heat dissipation from the GPU would not be very efficient.

I have the legion pro and that's great for a heat dissipation

    • +3

Only the 14 Slim is actually a Slim. The 16 Slim is the same chassis as what the midrangede non-Pro Legion used to be, its not very slim at all.

  • Is it just me or is the Cashrewards cashback only 3.3%. Been holding out to order the 4060 version of this when the cashback is better

    • expired at midnight

  • +1

Good specs apart from brightness. 350nits is pretty crappy. Paid the same price for legion 5 pro in 2021 and even that is 500 nits.

    • +1

Why the hell go from 500 to 350….think nobody will notice? craziness…

      • There are two panel skus in this years (and last years legion), there is one thats still as bright - the 240hz HDR400 (500 nits one), and the one in this sku, being the HDR less 350 nit 165hz one.

At the end of the day, brightness isnt that much of a important aspect in a gaming laptop - it is nice to have, for sure, but nothing would kill ya.

        • Varies a lot person to person, and by usage situation. No point having great specs if you can barely see the screen.

  • Is the tdp 140w? I read on reddit that the rtx 4070s are Capped at 100w?

  • whats the easier way to get this shipped to new zealand? it costs 4.3k here :(

    • Jump on ebay for a secondhand deal I reckon

  • Why do they put shitty screens in these laptops? 350 nits is not bright enough.

    • Because the 500 nit default is reserved for their halo product (Legion Pro). The lower end Legion can be upgraded to them at build time for $60 or so, but considering these are new their specs aren't customizable for now

  • Cashrewards is 3.3% for me now..

  • How does this compare to the other recent Lenovo deal posted here? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/836414

    • Apples and oranges. The Slim 14 is a thin and light (relative), this is bordering on a desktop replacement. Desktop 4060 ~ Laptop 4060, and Desktop 4060 Ti ~ Laptop 4070, which should give you an idea of the performance difference. CPU is about the same, 8845HS is a refreshed 7840HS.

    • That one is decent too. But do consider size as well cause that one is 17".

  • Looks like Shopback has 12% cashback for those who missed Cashrewards yesterday. @gotyourback, can you please confirm the code "EASTER" is eligible

    • It's listed on shopback as a promo code so it will be eligible.

  • Worth waiting till Strix and Strix Halo get here. This is Hawk Point.

    https://www.techpowerup.com/cpu-specs/ryzen-7-8845hs.c3400

  • Code appears to no longer be valid on this laptop.

  • Hi, I have a question about the cashback.

This is my first time to use it, and I'm not %100 sure. On Lenovo website you can subscribe and get %10 discount.

So, can I have that %10 discount and the cashback together??

    • +1

You cant use the 10% code with the ongoing promotion code ("easter" for example). So that 10% off is just bait i think, 10% off their ridiculous rrp is nothing.

      • I'm not sure if that 10% discount don't work on top of the promotions or sales (never tried it before), but was wondering; if it works, then the final price would be more reasonable than the current ridiculous pricing (which is still cheaper than any store).

    • No only one code at a time. Easter is better code

      • True.
My dreams for a Lenovo legion just vaporised thanks to the local prices 😢
