The iTECHBM500 is a high-precision battery monitor that captures instantaneous and integrated values in real-time. The iTECHBM500 utilises a 500A current shunt, the iTECHBM500 measures the discharge/ recharge currents and calculates the Ampere-hours (Ah) going in and out of the battery. The monitor provides real-time, high-precision voltage measurements through a field-installed sense wire. It is compatible with Lithium-ion, lead-acid, and nickel-metal hydride batteries.

Was looking for a new battery monitor for my dual battery setup and came across this. There are cheaper ones on eBay and/or Amazon that are similar, but appear to have a lower shunt included.

      As I said:

There are cheaper ones on eBay and/or Amazon that are similar, but appear to have a lower shunt included

Add Aliexpress to that list then.

      • For most people a 350 amp shunt should be enough.

    Nice big clear display…

    • The bigger the better, right?

Well, horses for courses.. I use a Victron Smart Shunt (about $150) and the BT app, so I don't have a local display… I've never bothered with a display because I have ample storage and generation for my current needs so rarely have to actually monitor things…

Interesting, this appears to be the same as the Renogy one, with a different housing: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/709150

The awful BT range of the Victron smart shunt really lets it down.

          • @watts: I haven't noticed an issue but I'm only in a smallish campervan, (Hiace Commuter Bus)… At times in campgrounds I've connected to neighbours Victron gear to nosey around their system, so I figured the range must be ok… (It's surprising how many people don't change the default passwords, lol)…

            • @FLICKIT: I’ve got other victron gear and the BT range is fine. It’s the shunt which is piss poor, and unfortunately the only one that matters. I need to be inside the canvas camper to connect.

          • @watts: Is anyone doing dedicated portable display versions of these things and if not (or if you're just not happy with the options that are available), is it something any of you would be interested in?

I'm designing one myself at the moment in retirement. Pretty hard to justify commercializing it though.

            • @Joku: Can’t see much of a market. My phone is already a portable display and if I want a dedicated display I’d get the Shunt + BMV for $100 more.

          • @watts: I agree, had terrible time connecting to my bt solar regulator, finally worked the sequence out….

Yep looks exactly the same except the mounting style, Renogy is currently $88.39 at Amazon..

          https://www.amazon.com.au/Renogy-Programmable-10V-120V-Compa…

          • @XeKToReX: I did look at this one and considered it. iTech one I felt would be better if I did have issues and only an extra $10.

            • @geekcohen: I like the front screw mount option on the iTech over the Renogy press tab only fit, but it probably depends on the installation…

@geekcohen: Been running the Renogy for 3yrs now, works a treat still!

They have a massive sale on ATM and the stuff is probably all Chinese but the quality looks way better then kings BS.

I was looking at their 12v control box last night listed for $270

    https://itechworld.com.au/products/itechworld-12v-control-hu…

It looks exactly the same as the kickass one that's up for fkn $400

    https://kickassproducts.com.au/products/kickass-12v-control-…

Kinda wanna bite the bullet but my ocd will hurt since I already own a kick ass dc dc and battery box 😪

Looks like a branded generic (and ugly). If you're ok with that look it should do the job.

    • Thanks for your fantastic feedback.

  • Worth mentioning the $20 first order (not sure what the minimum spend is or conditions),

after givung email and some personal details if that matters to you.

I am happy with my similar Renogy 500Amp shunt meter, but this looks ok too.

T&C’s apply: $20.00 off entire order. Minimum purchase of $100.00. One use per customer.

  • I'm considering this to keep an eye on the state of the battery in my boat. Will having it connected drain the battery at all during times the boat is not in use?

    • +1

Yes… Renogy claim Standby Dissipation:1-2mA for their version, so about 1Ah every 20 days I guess…
      https://au.renogy.com/500a-battery-monitor/

Edit, I missed it at first glance, iTech claim Standby current: 0.6mA, if correct that's sweet FA, about 1Ah every 70 days?…

Won't be adding this to my "Orange lid of disappointment" ecosystem lol

    • +2

Just out of interest, what's the story ?

      • +2

I have an orange brand setup and only discovered the brand's reputation after joining various 12v communities, where I laughed at several references regarding the "orange lid of disappointment" (120x battery). I'm currently in the process of replacing everything with Victron components. If I were to start again with a budget build then I would buy Kings for most components except the MPPT and DCDC.
Look, for the most part the orange stuff is not bad gear but you can get better for the same money.

    • Yeah, don't keep us in suspense.

  • Having the Victron with Bluetooth is so good. Don't even have to climb into the boat or Caravan to check battery levels
