Gas Pizza Ovens - Recommendations

Hi All,

Mums birthday coming up. Looking at getting her a pizza oven. Won’t be only utilised for traditional Pizza, but other things like, meat pizzas and zataar (Arabic) as well. So everything dough!

Any recommendations out there? Looking at a budget of about $500 dollars, preferably GAS.

Much appreciated.

A lot of OzBargainers seem happy with this budget oven.

      These make scents. Cheers

    • I have a similar low-cost Thomson gas oven from Coles. Don't love it because it takes ages to get the stone hot enough to cook a decent bottom crust. I used to make pizza on my Weber grill and at this point reckon they turned out better.

      • Have you tried a cast iron pan, like the chain pizza places uses? With enough oil in it you always get fried bottom crust.

        • I haven't seen a pizza shop using cast iron but I'll do a test next time around to see if it retains heat better than the wafer thin stone that came with my pizza oven.

@sumyungguy: Well they'll use lighter pans than a cast iron skillet, but I find a cast iron skillet works the same. I don't even bother preheating the skillet so I can dress the pizza in the skillet, though I'm sure it'll help.

@sumyungguy: They use aluminium pans. I washed thousands of them when I was a kid. You can sometimes buy them on eBay.

            • @Stewardo: My mate had some kind of ferrous pans at his shop. He gave me a few to use as targets because they were severely rusted after one of the dish-pigs soaked them in bleach for unknown reasons.

            • @Stewardo: victorias basement sell them, I think $11

I have a decent Bunnings version that I can’t find in their website anymore - from memory it was about $200 and comes with pizza slicer and a paddle

Keep an eye out on Facebook marketplace or gumtree as they make a decent pizza

I have the same, surprised they've removed it

  • what is a meat pizza

  • I only have a Gozney Roccbox and I haven't used anything else to compare. I love mine, and I've been using it weekly, mostly for pizza but have done flat bread as well. It looks great and performs really well, but again, I have nothing to compare it to.

  • Thanks all!!!

  • I picked up one from Aldi for $99 and can’t fault it. I can’t image how a $500 or $1000 oven could possibly do a better job.

  • Look at choice reviews.

  • For that budget. I would try to extend and get a Gozney Roccbox.
BBQ galore have them for $800, so maybe watch and wait for a sale.

If you cannot wait for that or don't want to spend that much, than one of those $200-$400 ones will work. They are just much harder to use.
The stone takes ages to get hot, and they are generally just thin stones.
Also because of the size, you end up burning the back of the pizza before you can turn it.
It's possible to get an amazing pizza from them, but it's also hit and miss.

Your next level would be the new cheaper ones from Gozney. You can get an Arc for $1200.
Then the next step up is a $3000ish one. At that level I would be going with something with decent stones in them, Gozney works, but I don't like how thin the stones are on them.
But all of those are away above your budget.
