  • temporary out of stock for Brisbane :(

Wonder if I can price match this anywhere?

    • it will be tricky to price match as theres a few hoops to jump thru. such as the VIP membership (which is basically just student pricing) and a welcome offer that acts as a coupon code.

Good deal OP for a popular fridge,

FYI here is the link to running costs calculator https://calculator.energyrating.gov.au/FridgeDetail.aspx that some may find handy and a quick comparison of fridge versus competitors:

    Location: NSW
    Tariff: 54.78

    4 star LG GB-455UPLE
    348.00 kWh - 1 year energy use
    $190.63 - 1 year running cost
    $1906.34 - 10 year running cost

    7 star Hisense HRBM418D RRP ~$1150+
    187.00 kWh - 1 year energy use
    $102.44 - 1 year running cost
    $1024.39 - 10 year running cost

    8 star Haier 433L HRF420BEC RRP ~$1399
    155.00 kWh - 1 year energy use
    $84.91 - 1 year running cost
    $849.09 - 10 year running cost

Wow this is a good post. I ignorantly thought it was only a 5 star scale, crazy that it's literally twice as expensive to run as competitors. Are Hisense & Haier pretty reputable nowadays?

      • Cheers I only found out just before posting it as I have been looking for a bottom mount fridge.

Good for those on solar, not so those with high tariffs.

Usually see reviews of LG having reliable fridges annd top three recommended brands except the recent class action for some models in the US. I am a bit wary of Hisense and Haier and would comb over warranties, consumer reviews, etc.

    LG cashback
8% cashback on cashrewards wouldn't work when using the codes i assume

Be mindful that LG has a few models that look similar to each other, but different model numbers and different efficiency.

There is a LG GB-455PL - which uses 299kWh per year, compared with this GB-455UPLE is is another 50kWh per year. Not really sure how/why they are different energy usage as they appear identical really - perhaps different compressor??

The GB-455PL also comes with a split folding shelf and vegetable crisper humidity selector, whereas the UPLE model does not. I find the split shelf extremely handy in my 'PL' model and wouldn't buy one without it.

Just a few things to bear in mind. I've been very happy with my 455PL model. Looks good, has great use of space inside, very quiet and efficient. I've had it plugged into an energy meter for 9 months now and extrapolating it out is going to use 230kWh per year, so in some cases it can actually beat the sticker rating.

I bought mine on FB marketplace for $500 - was a 2 year old model not a mark on it, no dents/scratches, still had the plastic on the front, the previous lady was moving in with her partner and didn't need it. So don't discount grabbing a bargain there.

I know you can get more efficient options from Haier and Hisense etc but IMO they are more risky in terms of longevity I feel. Choice also did a test of fridges and the GB-455PL cam out on top in terms of even cooling throughout the fridge whereas some other fridges are very uneven in their temperatures.

The PL is a newer model. The one in this listing is the older model and uses more energy. I went with the newer model 3.5 years ago for the energy saving eventhough it costed $150-200 more. I've probably already made my money back tbh

  • I saw somewhere(can't remember maybe check YouTube) but LG fridges are notorious for inverter failure(lawsuits happening) and they don't always come to the party on warranty, I would not risk buying and LG fridge.

I don't know if that's more a US thing?? I haven't heard so much of it in Aus?

In any case, I think it's a much of a muchness in this price-end anyway, if it's not LG, it's Samsung (I wouldn't touch them) or Hisense/Haier, Chiq, etc??

Even Westinghouse is not what it once was, I've heard the drawers in them are awful keep falling of their rails as the build quality is so woeful.

Recently my 8 year old Kelvinator fridge died, could not get a repairer in Brisbane to fix it same day, after 10 phone calls managed to get one next day. Asked him why all the repairers were busy he said they're all fixing newish fridges that are 2-5 years old that are breaking down. He said biggest problem brands were LG and Hisense branded fridges because they don't last and the lack of network to provide parts to repair them, so basically he tells them can't fix it buy a new one. He said to stick to the main brands with good parts suppliers. He said the Kelvinator we got was one of the last basic but good setups and he had the part to replace on mine, he got it up and running in 10 minutes and he said it should be good for a long time.

  • VIP status coupon not working. Does anyone have another coupon?

    • It didn't work the first time for me either, but I re-input it and it worked on the 2nd time.

      • Just today?

        I tried multiple times

        • ensure theres no gaps or any spaces even after the code

          • @swiggity123: I did, but unfortunately not working.

            Says “Invalid Key”

May be someone with HSBC can confirm if they changed the coupon.
