Recommendations on Ceramic / Stainless Steel Rice Cooker?

I know there is Buffalo and Kylin but the buffalo ones are very expensive and Kylin I'm not so sure about the quality. Ideally I'd like to find a replacement bowl for one of the Cuckoo or Zojirushi brands but there's nothing clear about that either.

  • Are you saying you want a stainless rice cooker bowl in preference to non-stick, but don't already own a cooker?

  • I'm in the same boat, looking for just the bowl to replace mine which non stick layer is already peeling. Not only is it difficult to find the options that are available in Australia (even more difficult with ceramic), I found that the sizes of these things are not universal. Aaaargh!

Check out this for some ideas.

I ended up going with the singer massive one off amazon. Got one that was advertised as damaged packaging for half tbe price but came fully bent so just returned.

The replacement one lasted 5 months and carked it,just wouldnt power on for no reason, just returned it too :(

The lid was awful as in most of the reviews, spraying glutenous rice water up to a metre around haha, but I found that putting a large jam jar lid loosely over the vent solved the issue mostly.

Buyer beware, but at least it cooked white and brown rice really well (my standards are low, just has to be cooked properly haha) for the 5 months that we used it. Easy to clean, dishwashable, and loved using the stainless steel bowl for other large uses. Cooked a smaller amount of rice well and cook time was the same as the quick kmart nonstick cheapies, maybe 20 mins for white.

Now on the hunt for another, so will follow this thread too. Tempted to buy another of singer, but would prefer something mid-size instead and the returns and being without is a pain.

  • +1

I went through the same process about 10 years ago. We ended up buying a ceramic one when we were travelling in Malaysia for super cheap (about $30) that we still use today. The problem with ceramic though is that it takes 45 minutes to cook rice.

So my suggestion is if youre travelling to Asia anytime soon or know someone who is, there are a lot more options for better value (and decent quality) rice cookers there

Edit: this is the one we bought but for much cheaper at the time : https://www.lazada.com.my/products/khind-ceramic-rice-cooker…

  • Going to go with an Instant Pot which has a stainless steel bowl and apparently cooks rice well. Only about $150 for the 3L one, which is a really good deal.

    • Nice option. What's the cooking time?
