AMD RX 7900 XTX Filled with Issues?

I’m looking at getting a GPU either 4080s or 7900xtx to play 4K on LgC3.

So far 7900xtx was looking more preferable for the 24gb vram and rasterisation for future games that may or may not be unoptimised. But I was digging around and saw a lot of crashes with games like hell divers2 and other games making people leave for nvidia. I don’t want to deal with constant bugs and issues when I play new games so are these issues rare enough to ignore or buy nvidia.

DLSS3.5 or what ever it is now is a game changer for Nvidia

If you play games, NVIDIA drivers are the gold standard

They contain a huge amount of undocumented hacks/workarounds to ensure It Just Works and all big titles are developed with NVIDIA compatibility in mind

XTX is currently going for $1499 so since you're already spending big dollars, $100 extra gets you the 4080S:

At the upper end I’d go nvidia

Neither of those are good reasons to go the 7900xtx. By the time 24GB is actually usable the card will be too slow to generate frames that size except with stuff like DLSS, where nVidia are still ahead. And the nVidia card goes toe to toe with the 7900XTX anyway even without things like DLSS and ray tracing.

Plus what future games wouldn't be building in support for nVidia's stuff right now? Current games have been supporting it for years, and that was before nVidia suddenly became one of the largest companies in the world. Any game or engine being built now is being built with nVidia in mind, unless you're worried about how futureproofed your card is for 10 years from now.

If the 7900XTX was $400 cheaper, then maybe. But it isn't.

Coming from a 7900 XTX owner, save yourself the headache and get the 4080S.

  • Thanks OP for asking this question, I was interested in the same comparison.

I think I’m going to go for 4070 Ti Super for now and might go all out when the next gen GPUs come out.
